AIBU?

To be fed up with neighbors oversized back yard pool?

With the lovely weather we've been getting lately the neighbors have decided to setup an inflatable pool in their yard right next to the flimsy wooden fence separating our two properties. It's so close that part of the blow up pool is bulging through one part of the fence into my yard. This in itself isn't a problem for me, but the way in which the pool is being used and the amount of racket that is being cause because of it is driving me up the wall.

There's kids in it from dawn till dusk and they're playing quite violently, splashing and yelling etc, and sometimes I hear the fence itself shuddering from all the impacts, there's water gushing over the side into my garden and about 6-7 times a day they come round to my door asking me to return a giant inflatable flamingo, or some other pool toy that's flew over the fence.

I've had a chat with them and asked the parents to calm it down a bit, they seemed to just shrug it off. I'm just stuck here hoping the damned pool bursts from all the playing but it seems indestructible. AIBU to consider stabbing a big hole in it overnight for some peace and quiet? I'm taking suggestions as to what sharp tool to use for such a task Grin

That's exactly what I was thinking adobe!

Oh! They really should move it. We had one years ago and a splinter from a really flimsy fence burst it!

I'd be telling them that the next time the flamingo found itself over my fence, it would be one severely and permanently deflated flamingo.

I'd also be telling the parents that they would be held liable for any permanent damage done to the damned fence.

Other than that, I don't know what you can do really. Once it goes quiet, start playing Bay City Rollers at them? Set up your barbeque so it sends smoke signals over their fence?

I can't imagine it's had much use this week 😂 Unless you live somewhere abroad where there is still a sun.
Putting a hole in it would be tempting but I think it would lead to other problems.

Judiciously placed birdseed? I’m not sure OP. I’d ask them to shift it a bit and be unavailable to return flamingos.

Get an estimate for a new (higher and stronger) fence. Send it to them.

I think you YABU with regard to the noise of children playing to be honest.
But not unreasonable to be worried about damage to your fence and garden, I would bring it up with them again with this angle in mind rather than complaining about the noise.

Hot BBQ set up very close to bulgy bit of pool?

Another assuming you aren't in the UK. I'm sat here under a blanket with the heating on!

It'd be a real shame if the fence accidentally punctured the bulgy bit...

Oh you're goooood!

I was going to suggest taking up chain-smoking right next to the fence. Maybe even cigars.

Or a tiny little needle particularly thorny rose through the fence...

I was also wondering where on earth you are to be enjoying a heatwave! It's barely made it into double figures here today.

Trellis up against the fence, mature rose bush. Sit back and wait.

Would also like to know where you live for this mythical lovely weather...

It seems there’s two separate issues:

One is the pool being so close to your fence that there is the risk of damage. I’d write to the neighbours pointing this out and stating that any damage will need to be paid for (assuming it’s your fence). Suggest they move the pool away from the fence. Take photos so you can prove any subsequent damage.

The other issue is the noise. I get the whole “kids playing” thing but that does sound excessive - I’m guessing you’re not in the UK by your description of the weather () but does your local council etc have rules on excessive noise or noise abatement?

I'd reach over and stub my cigarette out on it, but then again, I'm a cunt.

Whose fence is it OP, and would the NDN be prepared to pay the cost of replacing it if the pool causes damage?

If you're going to do anything to the pool and I'm not condoning any such action then make sure it's the bit of the pool that leans up against a sharp bit of the fence so that you can blame that Grin.

What a shame it would be if this happened to your neighbours-eh op?

I'd be ignoring the door when they are asking for their pool toys back, they shouldn't have a pool against the fence in the first place!

Stick a fork in it. Grin
I am still wearing my coat and scarf in Ireland.
I don't think there is much you can do, you asked they shrugged.
Burst it.

Large lump of rock hits it!

Bugger me did you see that metrorite last night lit up the sky must have landed somewhere?

OOh! look its just there, gone right thru your pool side what a shame its let all the water out:(

GrapefruitIsGross · 13/06/2019 13:53

The only trouble is that if you stabbed it, it wouldn’t take Poirot to work out that there may be a connection between you as the unhappy neighbour and the now droopy pool with a hole in the side!
