AIBU?

A reality TV star sold me fake Louis Vuitton purses

So I regularly go to a certain bootsale. I recognised one of the stall holders from TV. She was selling lots of name brand stuff and I spotted 2 LV purses, I asked her if they were real, she said yes. I thought because of who she was I'd trust her. Got home and cross checked the purses, turns out their fake. I mean it's not so much the money, it's the principal! I would have thought someone like her would have been trustworthy. I emailed her press management listed on her page, they've emailed me back stating they will process a refund. AIBU to be so annoyed?

Maybe she thought they were real herself.

Merrydoula · 24/04/2019 14:57

They're fake*

Ooh, who was it?

nancy75 · 24/04/2019 14:58

I wouldn't expect anything I bought at a bootsale to be a genuine high value brand. If it was real she would sell it on somewhere else

NoBaggyPants · 24/04/2019 14:59

Why would you think a reality tv star would be trusty? I can't see the correlation there.

furrytoebean · 24/04/2019 14:59

You’re getting a refund, what’s the problem?

She probably didn’t realise they were fake.

Xyzzzzz · 24/04/2019 14:59

At least you’re getting a refund! To be fair I wouldn’t have believed it was real at a boot sale. Most people put stuff like that on eBay.

azulmariposa · 24/04/2019 15:00

Why would someone being on TV make you trust them? If the purses were real and worth anything they wouldn't be sold at a boot sale.

PinkieTuscadero · 24/04/2019 15:00

No one with genuine Louis Vuitton swag to sell flogs it at a car boot sale.

MrsKrabbapple · 24/04/2019 15:03

Why would anyone sell LV at a car boot sale!

SilverySurfer · 24/04/2019 15:04

How much did you pay for them?

I think you were extremely naive to think someone would be selling real ones at a car boot, reality tv star or not.

Merrydoula · 24/04/2019 15:04

I suppose so! I just thought with her being in public eye and from (what appears to be) a wealthy family that it was most likely genuine...Silly me! I suppose I should just be happy I'm getting a refund...just the way she looked me dead eyed and 'yes they're definitely real'

No one would sell genuine bags at a car boot

DameDoom · 24/04/2019 15:06

Why would anyone be surprised that a reality star was flogging fake LV at a car booty? Hardly likely to be real. How much did it cost?

TeddiesAreTakingOver · 24/04/2019 15:07

Why are you still so annoyed? You’re getting a refund, which seems to have been pretty straightforward to arrange. Do you have to send them back or are you getting to keep them? What else do you want? Maybe the seller thought they where real.

PlainSpeakingStraightTalking · 24/04/2019 15:08

wealthy family
reality Tv
boot fare

nope - none of it adds up

boilersontheblink · 24/04/2019 15:09

Who was it OP?

IvanaPee · 24/04/2019 15:10

I’m guessing Made In Chelsea if OP assumes they’re a wealthy family, and she’s selling knock-offs that look real.

Because the fakes are pretty easy to spot!

Slightly on a tangent. A lady local to me was selling three Coach handbags. I liked one of them a lot and so brokered a deal at £35 for all 3 fully expecting them to be fake. She told me she'd bought them from outlet malls on trips to Florida.
Got them home, cross referenced the serials and they appeared genuine. Still sceptical I contacted Coach who confirmed all 3 were the real deal. Tried to buy a matching purse for my favourite and it was £340. Decided not to bother.

Moral is, sometimes people sell things unbelievably cheaply.

Jog22 · 24/04/2019 15:14

That 'dead-eyed' comment is making me think....

No one on MIC would know what a boot sale is!

Aberforthsgoat · 24/04/2019 15:14

i'm impressed you emailed, I presume most things at boot sales are fake etc to be honest
did you pay a lot?

I would have thought someone like her would have been trustworthy.

You're going to have a really difficult life if you judge trustworthiness on the basis of cheaply-won public profile.

ThanksItHasPockets · 24/04/2019 15:21

If they hadn't been a reality star then they wouldn't have had an agent and you wouldn't have had any recourse to get your money back.

It's probably that bulldog-chewing-a-wasp gemma collins Grin
