Hmm, well looking at piggy bank for new baby in the family (JLewis is my go to for lovely baby gifts), and found this when I searched for money box. An upside down "playful" rabbit with bound looking arms designed so that pennies are posted into the slot between it's legs. It is astoundingly crass and revolting.

How to take an innocent trinket and turn it unmentionable, what were the buyers thinking? Hey look we can do the degrade women and sexualise children message all at the same time, all in the guise of "playful", cos if you don't laugh you are just too boring anyway. It's like they forgot about target markets all together.

This is a money box, but not one I would ever give as a gift and if I ever received one of these I wouldn't be inviting that gift giver back!

I am feeling a little Shock at my usual failsafe JLewis right now!

I don't think IABU to think yuck, AIBU?

But weird. Not sure how it degrades women though?

I think you're crackers

The rabbit is doing a shoulder stand (it's arms aren't bound)

And you're posting the money in its arse/bottom/crack

It's barely eyebrow raising HmmConfusedand I can be really prudish

I'd say it's a bit ill thought through rather than 'astoundingly crass and revolting'.

lubeybooby · 23/04/2019 14:14

really don't think it's aimed at children - it's just a silly gift is all nothing to get all het up about. You make it sound like actual porn or something but it's just a bit daft imo. It's not yuck it's just 'meh'

The placement could be better but it’s a rabbit, I think your sexualising and degrading comments are a reach. Doesn’t look to me like the arms are bound to me.

I wouldn’t waste my money on shit like that. But I think you’ve got a seriously weird thought process about it OP

This is up there with the weirdest MN threads ever. It looks like a bunny doing yoga. How on Earth is this degrading women? You’re crackers.

Rorschach blot much op? Maybe there's something you'd like to explore?

It's sexualised because you have sexualised it, OP. I don't look at a money slot and think 'FANNY' nor do I associate my fanny as being a place to shove coins.

Next you'll be telling me that piggy banks are revolting and encourage children to mutilate real life pigs by cutting a slot in their backs to shove their 2ps in.

Maybe they are trying to compete with the M&S yoga bunny and the ASDA erection bunny?

The way you put it vs what I saw made me Grin made me laugh aloud. It's really not that deep, OP. The price, however, for this is ridiculous!

Report
ballsdeep · 23/04/2019 14:18

Oh ffs some people really are offended by anything. I'd be more shocked at the price tag tbh.
Get a grip. If you dont like it then don't look at it or buy it

It's certainly ugly but I can't see anything other than an unattractive money box shaped like a rabbit doing yoga.

The OP's thought processes, on the other hand ... ConfusedGrin

Although maybe youve sexualised it because its a pose you're familiar with? Do you collect lots of 2p coins op? 😉😉

Are you all on crack?

No feckin way would I buy this. Posting money in a bunny's arse? This is normal MN behaviour now is it?

OP. YADNBU

£62! Is what stood out to me.

To be clear the item adds style and a touch of spice to a space seemed to have obvious sexual connotations and yeah I think that's grim in a product associated with children.

I think piggy banks are great gifts for children, just not upside down with a slot between the legs!

The slot is on its bottom and not actually between its legs. I'm not really sure it's hands are bound but maybe I can't see it properly. A child would put the money in probably from behind, although they could put it in from the front, between the legs, if they were playing about for laughs when they are a bit older. I'm not keen, especially at £62 but I don't find it particularly offensive.

You could always purchase their Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit money box (£20) which has a 5-star review or their Kelly at Bashful Bunny money box (£12).

It's clearly meant to be a slightly risque gift for adults, inspired by Jeff Koons. The slot very clearly suggests vagina. It's called 'Pols Potten Money Box' obviously a reference to Pol Pot, so definitely not aimed at children.

I'm not sure someone with a £62 moneybox needs to save their change tbh.

This is fucking hilarious. Pols Potten is a Dutch brand, it means Pols Pots!

It’s not designed for children though, is it? It’s an ornament/ trinket. The rabbit is doing yoga, isn’t it? I think it’s the kind of silly gift you’d get for your partner. It’s not to my taste but I definitely don’t think it’s in anyway offensive.
