So much wrong with this nasty rabbit weirdness John Lewis, WTF?!?
(135 Posts)www.johnlewis.com/pols-potten-money-box-playful-bunny-gold/p3541360
Hmm, well looking at piggy bank for new baby in the family (JLewis is my go to for lovely baby gifts), and found this when I searched for money box. An upside down "playful" rabbit with bound looking arms designed so that pennies are posted into the slot between it's legs. It is astoundingly crass and revolting.
How to take an innocent trinket and turn it unmentionable, what were the buyers thinking? Hey look we can do the degrade women and sexualise children message all at the same time, all in the guise of "playful", cos if you don't laugh you are just too boring anyway. It's like they forgot about target markets all together.
This is a money box, but not one I would ever give as a gift and if I ever received one of these I wouldn't be inviting that gift giver back!
I am feeling a little at my usual failsafe JLewis right now!
I don't think IABU to think yuck, AIBU?
But weird. Not sure how it degrades women though?
I think you're crackers
The rabbit is doing a shoulder stand (it's arms aren't bound)
And you're posting the money in its arse/bottom/crack
It's barely eyebrow raising and I can be really prudish
really don't think it's aimed at children - it's just a silly gift is all nothing to get all het up about. You make it sound like actual porn or something but it's just a bit daft imo. It's not yuck it's just 'meh'
I'd say it's a bit ill thought through rather than 'astoundingly crass and revolting'.
The placement could be better but it’s a rabbit, I think your sexualising and degrading comments are a reach. Doesn’t look to me like the arms are bound to me.
I wouldn’t waste my money on shit like that. But I think you’ve got a seriously weird thought process about it OP
This is up there with the weirdest MN threads ever. It looks like a bunny doing yoga. How on Earth is this degrading women? You’re crackers.
Rorschach blot much op? Maybe there's something you'd like to explore?
It's sexualised because you have sexualised it, OP. I don't look at a money slot and think 'FANNY' nor do I associate my fanny as being a place to shove coins.
Next you'll be telling me that piggy banks are revolting and encourage children to mutilate real life pigs by cutting a slot in their backs to shove their 2ps in.
Maybe they are trying to compete with the M&S yoga bunny and the ASDA erection bunny?
The way you put it vs what I saw made me made me laugh aloud. It's really not that deep, OP. The price, however, for this is ridiculous!
Oh ffs some people really are offended by anything. I'd be more shocked at the price tag tbh.
Get a grip. If you dont like it then don't look at it or buy it
It's certainly ugly but I can't see anything other than an unattractive money box shaped like a rabbit doing yoga.
The OP's thought processes, on the other hand ...
yep I'm shocked at that price...just nuts!
Although maybe youve sexualised it because its a pose you're familiar with? Do you collect lots of 2p coins op? 😉😉
Are you all on crack?
No feckin way would I buy this. Posting money in a bunny's arse? This is normal MN behaviour now is it?
OP. YADNBU
£62! Is what stood out to me.
To be clear the item adds style and a touch of spice to a space seemed to have obvious sexual connotations and yeah I think that's grim in a product associated with children.
Next you'll be telling me that piggy banks are revolting and encourage children to mutilate real life pigs by cutting a slot in their backs to shove their 2ps in.
I think piggy banks are great gifts for children, just not upside down with a slot between the legs!
The slot is on its bottom and not actually between its legs. I'm not really sure it's hands are bound but maybe I can't see it properly. A child would put the money in probably from behind, although they could put it in from the front, between the legs, if they were playing about for laughs when they are a bit older. I'm not keen, especially at £62 but I don't find it particularly offensive.
You could always purchase their Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit money box (£20) which has a 5-star review or their Kelly at Bashful Bunny money box (£12).
It's clearly meant to be a slightly risque gift for adults, inspired by Jeff Koons. The slot very clearly suggests vagina. It's called 'Pols Potten Money Box' obviously a reference to Pol Pot, so definitely not aimed at children.
I'm not sure someone with a £62 moneybox needs to save their change tbh.
It's called 'Pols Potten Money Box' obviously a reference to Pol Pot, so definitely not aimed at children.
This is fucking hilarious. Pols Potten is a Dutch brand, it means Pols Pots!
It’s not designed for children though, is it? It’s an ornament/ trinket. The rabbit is doing yoga, isn’t it? I think it’s the kind of silly gift you’d get for your partner. It’s not to my taste but I definitely don’t think it’s in anyway offensive.
Most bonkers thread ever.
Gawd, it is kind of awful ! I looked at this after reading other comments and assumed you were being over the top but.......it’s very, very weird. And £62 ?!
Complete with an open slot and a rubber plug
Yes it would be much more tasteful to have the slot on in the head and the rubber plug stuck up its bottom. Oh wait.
Did anyone read the description...haha!
'Complete with an open slot and a rubber plug.'
degrade women and sexualise children message
How do you know it's a girl bunny?
How do you know it's designed for children? None of the rest of their range looks like it's for kids.
Girl rabbits are complete tarts tbf
You are hilarious for being this outraged
According to the John Lewis listing "Complete with an open slot and a rubber plug." Sound a bit rude to me!
Complete with an open slot and a rubber plug - first thing I saw to be honest. It's shit. Who in their right mind would pay £62 for that. YANBU. Yuk.
I wonder what receptacle people use to save up the £62 it costs to buy this money box.
I am struggling to understand why anyone would buy a money box for £62.00 when the sensible thing would be to either buy a money box from the pound shop and give £61.00 to fill it up, or write a cheque for £62.00 and put it in a card or transfer £62.00 directly into a bank account. Do people love John Lewis so much they are willing to essentially throw away £61.00 ?
The price offends me more.
Is it about paying through the arse?
I have a feeling it will be reduced in the sales.
I’m more offended by the price!! £62 for a money box???
I didn't think I'd ever get a laugh from Pol Pot!
It's well tacky 🤮
It’s ugly and expensive and I don’t know why you put the more net in it’s bottom. But it’s arms aren’t tied and it doesn’t lol sexual to me.
I don’t think it’s designed children.
I like this one better www.trouva.com/products/pols-potten-belly-bunny-money-box?utm_source=googleshoppingUK&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=1347967839&utm_content=49844734250&utm_term=&targeting=pla-436172663226&device=m&gclid=CjwKCAjw7_rlBRBaEiwAc23rhvGRESlS4aZRWySVgZE8Q4hQ4OdZk9yOnMKftEp3i6HyIWiWoafD6hoC_40QAvD_BwE
Have to admit that it coming with a rubber plug cracked me up.
degrade women and sexualise children
still have no idea what you are on about. I am sure there's something about Playboy in there, but I am still not getting it. Help!
Be grateful - I bought a gun shell cartridge money box from a war museum and it looks like a dildo
It’s god awful to look at, from a purely aesthetic point of view. Who’d want one?
The name is worse though. Is it a play on Pol Pot?
If it's reduced in the sales I am defo buying it for someone I don't like
£62 for a money box!!
Jeff Koons? That explains a lot...
Well, the new baby probably won't mind the horrible money box.But later might have thought.that having a starter amount of £62 in it instead of a buyer paying that much for this awful thing.
Years ago, i bought a beautiful bronzey coloured pig money box, from a charity shop for £2, its not plastic or tatt, its ceramic, I still have it in my bedroom. its for spare pound coins usually. But I am a cheapskate person, and never ever been in a John Lewis store or such.
£62. Looks like a charity shop find.
It's Dutch, thus weird sense of humour like the Belgians.
It’s completely naff and clearly designed for adults with more money than sense not for children.
Not to my taste but I fail to be offended by it.
Thanks a fuck. My mumsnet adverts are now full of overpriced ugly rabbits!
Well it's not my taste. But it's not demeaning and semi-pornographic and all the other things the OP seems to think it is.
I can't not laugh. Alongside the arse plug and truly bizarre brand name, I thought this was a clever wind-up. I had to add it to my basket to be sure!
Ultimate verdict: the Lindt Bunny can relax: I doubt it has serious competition from this angle and certainly not at that price! What a horrendously ugly object. (It's the ugly gold finish that's so offensive to the eye BTW; the arse-slit's neither here nor there by comparison).
Oh my eyes ...
I love mumsnet...just when I think I'm the bonkers person someone pops alone to make me feel positively bloody normal.
OP ever heard the phrase that beauty is in the eye of the beholder ? Well so is professional offence...you can see it because you want to.
Might want to have a chat with a professional if that's where your mind goes.
However I fully agree with PP it's definately ugly and overpriced
"My mumsnet adverts are now full of overpriced ugly rabbits!"
I've got a yoga one. The Advert God clearly thinks I need the exercise...
I'm more shocked at the price!!!!
£62 to shove coins into a rabbit's arse.
World's gone mad.
I am now googling inappropriate piggy banks. If anyone looks at my internet history in this office, I'll have some explaining to do
It is beyond hideous and I cannot believe that anyone in their right mind would pay £62 for it, but not sure where the sexualisation comes in to it.
BAggyPants Pols Potten is a range...a brand. Nothing to do with Pol Pot!
I think you're maybe looking at this in a different way to most people. I don't see anything sexual or crass about it.
No feckin way would I buy this. Posting money in a bunny's arse?
I agree. However I think the op’s “sexualising children and degrading women” along with “astoundingly crass and revolting” is OTT.
It’s just posting coins into a rabbits arse. Not everyone’s taste, but hardly offensive.
OMFG
I hope it's fake
@S1naidSucks it is a very visual way of showing where children come from though...
OP are you a feminist by any chance 🙄
£62 fucking quid for a money box?! That’s the weirdest thing about it. Otherwise it’s fine, I like rabbits. My kids have plastic piggy banks where it has a slot on the pig’s back, but you don’t really think of it as going into the pig’s spine, do you? So why would you think of this one as going into the rabbit’s vag or arse?
On the Pols Potten website (Dutch company with absolutely nothing to do with Pol Pot for Pete's sake - where are people's minds at ??) it's called a 'money box bunny bum gold'. Useful fact of the day.
Wouldn't buy it myself, doesn't sexualise or degrade anyone, it's just a bit rubbish, though on their website they actually have some rather pretty china rabbit money boxes, not doing odd things. I would still shop at John Lewis - and I think you can unclutch your pearls, OP.
1) how does it degrade women?
2) how on earth does it sexualise children?
That’s enough internet for today
My first thought was "62 quid argh". My second was "why did they cross Pol Pot with Beatrice Potter". Now I see it's because it's a Dutch company name.
OP are you a feminist by any chance 🙄
How do you work that out?
Being a feminist doesn’t make you see an arse up rabbit money box as some sort of sex crime.
How the bloody hell does this degrade women?
Rabbits, maybe, but women??
OP are you a feminist by any chance
Fuck those feminists wanting equal rights for women and a stop to all money boxes........
That is weird.
My 15yr old DS immediately said it should be kinky not playful.
And when shown the description using slot and rubber bung said "Do you think they know?"
Pretty clear there and no direction from me!
I was expecting to see some kinky bondage bunny, not an expensive upside down one.
It’s a fairly ugly money box but really can’t relate to anything else OP said about it. It’s completely inoffensive to me!
I don't know what's funnier the 'obviously a reference to Pol Pot' or the fruit plate in the 'customers also bought' section.
I wish I was a fly on the wall to see the reaction when JL investigates the reason for the high number of clicks to their bunny page
I'm a radical feminist....really fail to see how this degrades women TBH.
It's not a woman, it's not even necessarily a female rabbit.
It's not bound it's doing a headstand.
It is supposed to be tongue-in-cheek and isn't for children. It's not my taste and I wouldn't pay £62 for it.
With the hole where it is and double entendre about rubber plugs I'd be more likely to assume it was supposed to be a gay male rabbit TBH!
KidLorneRoll
That's true....maybe bunnysnet should be up in arms over it
They would be hopping mad
Ok ok I am going away I promise
It's gross and not of the tasteful standards I associate with St John of Lewis, but I do think it's a "comedy" bum crack and not a porn posing bunny. But it is grim. It's something about the gold that makes it seem so "adult" instead of just silly.
The only thing crass and revolting about it is the £62 price tag!
I think it's tat and a bit naff...
His bunny arms look folded not bound. Pols Potten is a Dutch brand. I would buy him for £5.
Posters go on about Daily Mail fodder and then we get this sort of bonkers shit complaint.
A candidate for Mumsnet Madness surely.
Cant see really much wrong with this (other than the price tag) - its just a bunny standing on its head.
A couple of years ago, however, Paperchase did a money box in the form of a purple glittery Jesus. That did make me raise my eyebrows somewhat.
Now what carrot 🥕 gold do you suppose that is?
I’ll be sure to think of this at my next yoga class.
Yeah its a bit wierd and pervy for John Lewis.
I expect Vulva-Bunny will be turning up on the shelves of TK Maxx within the year.
I'm seeing kangaroo here, not bunny. It's meant to be a yoga bunny, no? Inclusion of a plug is a nice touch, though, for extra, er, versatility.
Don't buy it then
Good lord, OP. Get a grip.
You have a longer reach than Mr Tickle here.
Just showed it to DDs pet rabbit and he said he feels violated 🙄
