Away visiting family. On day 3 now. They're so noisy!

My nieces in particular, screeching obnoxious, chucking things. Blowing party whistle things.

I'm lying low encouraging nice reading.

I have three dc of my own but they're much quieter and basically grown up.

Anybody else?

No, I'm no fool. Have been in the garden reading the papers almost all weekend. Can you go home soon?

Everyone lovely here except for my bratty 11yo nephew. Thinks he’s soooo grown up Hmm He’s rude as fuck.

You've learnt your lesson. Go away next time. We're on a 3 day citibreak and it's AMAZING! And so peaceful!

Oh and they keep grabbing food. All the time.

Mini break sounds blissful but there were specific family reasons for being here which is nice. I could just do with less child whining

Reckon I'd have made my excuses and left early. Easier to leave someone's house than ask someone to leave yours, so you're in a better position. While some might say life is too short to fuss over such an issue, I'm of the opinion that life is too short to put up with it.

We’ve made excuses not to see family this year. Mostly because our nephew is a vicious little shit who attacks our baby and snatches all his toys away. At Christmas he gave DS 1yo a nosebleed and knocked out one of the puppy’s teeth. I’m already wondering how to get out of Christmas if anyone has any ideas!

I feel for you OP! My (lovely) in-laws are at their wits’ end with bratty nephew. His parents don’t really discipline him and they don’t want to overstep the mark as grandparents. They’re much nicer than me. Nephew tried to take my mini eggs to add to his already considerable stash and when I said oi, they’re mine he threw them down and walked off Hmm

My kids are naturally timid so I have an easier job of it but I swear, if I caught one of mine acting like that..... the parents just shrug when he’s rude to them.

Last Christmas he caused a scene because he was too old to be sitting at the children’s table, according to him. He was ten Grin

Oh god yes! Spent the last few days with a bratty little 4.5 year old with no manners what so ever, is so rude and backchats back to his parents who do not discipline him at all. He said something truly awful yesterday whilst we were out in public and although his dad 'told him off' he had no real consequence for his actions and he will do it again, whereas if that was my DS we would have gone home there and then. My 2 year old genuinely has more manners and is better behaved than him. DP has kind of stopped biting his tongue and makes (somewhat passive aggressive) comments to them now but they take no notice whatsoever. Makes me not want to spend time with them, but I do genuinely love the parents. Soooo infuriating!

Spend the day at home doing housework. I don't go away at bank holidays, it's not worth the hassle. Am just about to go and sit in the garden with a beer.

Our family can’t be bothered to visit us - 45 min drive - they obvs think it’s downhill from here because we are often expected to drop everything and dash over there at their every whim. We invited them over for Sunday lunch today, they lied and said they had plans so MIL came on her own (and inadvertently grassed them up 😂) - she has now dashed back to see them (& has prob arranged to spend the rest of the day with them) so we are blissfully alone again and enjoying every minute. Happy Easter all 🥂

@KateyKube that’s awful! Surely you don’t need more reason than that?

Nope, but I am an anti-social fucker at the best of times.

Spent the whole day in the garden with the dogs, weeding and preparing a new rockery. Very tired and achy and have about 1 million splinters in my hands, but feeling like I have earned the glass of wine I'm about to have.

Were lucky were spending Easter at home just the 7 of us and it's been lovely.

We only came back from our holiday in Cornwall last night but we've still managed to make a 3 course easter meal for us all this afternoon, including a triple layer Easter cake I'd made and we've had our Easter Egg hunt,so I'm feeling pretty pleased with myself right now.

I have spent the day so far washing walls, mopping floors, scrubbing skirting boards, wiping paintwork, cleaning toilets and washing up. I think it says something that I prefer this to the idea of a family Easter! Soon I'm going to cook some dinner and then relax with a glass of something nice.

It's my MIL that is doing my head in, not the kids. She has to fill every silence with inane chatter. I move room for peace, and she follows me. She keeps saying she'll stop talking and then starts again. All harmless, but infuriating.

I’ve had a blissful two weeks off, no family visits, I didn’t go and see them, just got sent a pass-agg set of party pics on WhatsApp. I dunno if I was meant to be jealous or something? I was just heartily relieved to have avoided it all.

We have had an awesome Easter weekend in a caravan at a theme park just the 4 of us. Kids have got on well, amazing rides, park not overcrowded and the weather has been beautiful. I definitely recommend coming away for Easter as we do every year as it makes it so easy to say 'sorry we're away' when invited to anything else!!

My In-laws are all lovely but I’ve had to spend the afternoon round there pretending I’m not having a miscarriage. It’s been pretty grim.

Sorry to derail the thread with my self-pity. I’m just feeling the need to sulk.
