Cancelling gym membership

I haven't used my gym in at least a year, so I emailed to cancel and cancelled the direct debit. They called to say I need to pay one more month to cover the notice period, but I refused (as it shouldn't be a whole month payment, just a week) . They said they're putting it through their third party collector. They don't have my current address, but do have my bank details, mobile and email.

Will they actually be able to send the bailiffs round to my house?

How much notice does your contract say you need to give? A month is standard. If you want to end up with a CCJ for this then go ahead and ignore it.

Not sure about bailiffs but it might affect your credit report in due course.

Generally in the T&C gym membership requires one month's cancellation. So you need to pay for a whole month.

They may not bother chasing for one month however if it is in their T&C they may well do. If it gets to the stage of bailiffs it won't just be one month's fees but all the court and bank charges too.

Depends what your contract says. I had to pay a month. Just because you've not used it for a year doesn't stop them sticking to the terms.

What's one more month if you've paid for and not used it for a year?!
You have to do what the contract says.

Did you speak to general manager? If not it's worth a try. I would think this is an empty threat but wouldn't want to risk it.

What does the agreement say regarding notice periods. At my gym it’s three months.
