AIBU?

To have scrambled eggs in a cage that aren't yellow rubber?

Do cafes have to overcook scrambled eggs? Whenever I order them (even when I asked for them not to be overcooked) they are hard and bouncy. I.e overcooked. And I love nice se - barely cooked when they leave the kitchen so the residual heat finishes them off.

I came for eggs in a cage thought it was some poncy hipster breakfast 😁

Scrambled eggs need to be good right through in cafes so usually made and kept warm or made in the microwave but for food hygene reasons they usually can't be on the runny side

This is why I don't go out for 'brunch' or a cooked breakfast. I can do a much better job myself.

Agreed! I just don't have them out. Ever. I like them with just butter and then as they are scrambling a bit of creme freiche to stop them going past it... I want scrambled eggs now! With cherry toms and streaky bacon and mushrooms and ciabata toast - breakfast of the Gods!

Thought this was something about battery hens! Rubbery isn't great but I wouldn't be keen on just barely set either.

YANBU. I won't eat in cafes anymore because the fried eggs usually have snot on or have hard yolks, the sausages are shit quality and rank, the bacon is horrible and they normally put the egg next to the beans. So it's easier to cook it myself with ingredients I know I like.

Eliza, are you my DP? Grin

He complains about all those things, and is incredibly particular about where his beans are placed. Mind you, we both hate snotty eggs and cheap sausages.

We used to have a lovely cafe 10 minutes walk away, where the lady cooked eggs perfectly and the sausages were the prizewinning ones from the local butcher. She also did great mushrooms and the breakfast came with a small portion of saute potatoes. We used to go nearly every Saturday, until they closed down and converted the premises into 2 houses which they sold for £300k apiece. We were really cross, but I suppose you have to cook a lot of breakfasts to make £600k.

I don't know why people make such crap scrambled eggs, they're so bloody easy to get perfect (nothing added apart from salt and pepper and cooked in butter).

Scrambled eggs are lovely with a dollop of cottage cheese mixed in when they've just stopped being runny.

Some places try to avoid the bean tsunami taking over the plate by putting them in a teeny pot/ramekin.

That annoys me cause then you have the social angst of if it’s acceptable to pour them out or attempt to eat them from the ramekin.

I don’t not want to be known as some sort of bean ramekin luddite.

Bean placement is incredibly important IMO. None of you ABU about that!

That said - I don't have that much issue with finding nice, creamy just set scrambled eggs. Our local cafe does a great job if it. But I can't possibly tell you where is it, of course, or the place will be overrunSmile

This is exactly why I always order poached when I'm out for breakfast! I can make amazing scrambled eggs for myself...poached not so much!
Ps. Also only clicked for the caged eggs.

I think the trouble is that there's a range of ways people like their scrambled eggs, from quite soggy to quite hard, so they plump for the one-type-suits-all approach. I also agree with PP who mention fears of salmonella etc.

Oh and you should only ever eat sandwiches whilst in a cage.

Aw, I thought Scrambled Eggs in a Cage was something a bit posh. It'd probably have avocado involved somehow!
