AIBU?

To think most conspiracy theories and those who believe in them are anti-Semitic?

That in most of these theories, along with the nakedly antisemitic ones like Holocaust denial, those based on unknown /unseen groups controlling the world economy or the media inevitably point the finger at Jewish people?

When people say 'oh i keep an open mind' or 'David Icke is right about some things' think they're being broad minded, but in reality they're buying into semi veiled anti semitism and age old myths about Jews and Judaism.

So Dacod Icke and his ilk aren't anti semites then?

I was really confused about your title.

I was thinking more about man never made it to the moon, it was all fake, the royal family had Diana killed off etc.

Was trying to think how the hell you had made the connection you did.

David Ike is a nut job. I actively avoid anything he talks about. Doesn't mean all conspiracy theorist are anti semetic

Read Jon Robson adventures with extremests.

Basically people try and make you feel that questioning whether there is an elite controlling things is anti semetic, so that you don't question it.

Perhaps not most of them, but certainly a substantial portion stem ultimately from anti-semitic ideas, even if the current espousers of those theories aren't actively aware of it.

I think maybe you've got some sort of confirmation bias going on.

When I think of conspiracy theories, the obvious one that comes to mind are the moon landings, Diana and JFK assassination.

David Icke believe that the world is run by shape shifting lizards. Some have claimed that this is code for Jewish people.

But David Icke claims that the British Royal family are lizards. They are not Jewish. So no, I don't think David Ickes theory is anti semetic. If it is a code, he is referring to the rich and powerful in general.

Yes, some conspiracy theories are anti-Semitic. Many, are not.

He's a Holocaust denier who has been banned drom both Austria and Canada.

For Icke and a lot of global conspiracy ilk their foundation text is The Protocols of the Elders of Zion (1905) a forged account that tbey think is gennuine.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Protocols_of_the_Elders_of_Zion must global conspiracy theories are marginally more sophisticated rehashes of the central message of the protocols.

Yes there are a number of conspiracy theories that are thinly disguised excuses for anti-Semitism, and yes some foolish/naïve people take these ideas up not realising or caring about this, or deliberately to promote anti-Semitic thought.

There are also a number of conspiracy theories that are not related to anti-Semitism such as alien abduction.

As for things like 'Protocols', a vile text, supporters are often linked to far-right groups, I think a number of people who read this/promote it are already anti-Semitic and use this kind of fake text to spread their ideas but if it didn't exist would find some other excuse to back up their discriminatory, racist/xenophobic ideas.

Hmmm I think it's a lot more nuanced than that. Yes there are some anti semitic conspiracy theories but I think the big ones most well known like flat earth, we didn't land on the moon, anti vax, Area 51 and chemtrails etc are nothing do with religion or race.

I think a small subset are but on the whole no I don't think you can assume all or most conspiracy theorists are anti Semitic.

You can however assume they may have issues with logic or critical thinking Grin

I think you just need to learn more conspiracy theories, OP.

Disclaimer: I am about to write utter complete bollocks

Ebola was a conspiracy by Americans to kill Africans. Not particularly by Jewish Americans. (The cure for Ebola is to eat buckets of salt, btw).

The Earth is flat (but don't ask me to look up why they lie about that). Are They all supposed to be Jewish & covert supporters?

Big Pharma knows a cheap harmless easy cure 4 cancer but hides it to keep us sick. Big Pharma != especially Jewish.

Jill Dando was killed to cover up a Paedo ring. Not just Jewish Paedos, all sorts of Paedos.

The Scripals were not poisoned at all, or if they were poisoned it was with chemicals supplied from Porton Down on orders of British govt or maybe just accidentally released by staff who work at Porton Down (coz they are so irresponsible as to poison locals in town where they live), b/c UK govt wanted to pick a fight with Russian govt. It was fantastic good luck coincidence that British govt managed to identify two innocent Russian tourists who just happened to be FSB agents visiting Salisbury on the same day (but it was too cold for them to hang around in Salisbury or even in UK for long)

Etc.

I disagree unless you can explain how that applies to moon landings, Diana's death, 9/11, JFK assassination, UFOs, Paul McCartny died and replaced by double, all I can think of off the top of my head.

Certainly some of the big conspiracy theories about rich and powerful groups controlling society have anti Semitic roots.

Exactly, also add MKUltra /Snowden leaks stuff, both have been proven true but in no way was they even hinting on antisemitism, plus you have anti-vaxers, flat eathers etc etc

Illuminati, New World Order, anything featuring a global elite tends to get anti-Semitic pretty quickly. Along with Jews, Freemasons, Catholics and Communists are often cited. Generally anything where there was what could be an international unity that could be seen as greater than national allegiance.

Workers refusing to fight other workers on the orders of the rich in WW1, religious allegiance rather than national, the kinship members of a diaspora may feel are recast as secret societies and networks.

Missed this, so you are picking out obvious antisemitic conspiracy theories and trying to extrapolate from their?

Again the snowden leaks was a globalist conspiracy theory before hand, not sure where flat eathers and antivaxers fit into your narrow model.

Yes OP, you’re broadly right.

Any conspiracy theory that requires many people knowing ‘the truth’ but covering it up (which is most of them) inevitably ends up being justified by reference to shadowy controlling powers. And this frequently leads to Jews one way or another in the minds of conspiracist arseholes.

It’s just a matter of asking the fools that believe these things ‘how?’ and ‘why?’ often enough. They’ll get to Jews in the end, even if they hide behind euphemisms like ‘bankers’ or ‘capitalist-military complex’.

The moon landings = fake is pretty global as conspiracy theories go, isn't it?

Somewhere I have link to the % of ppl in various countries believe vaccines cause autism & Big Pharma knows that & chooses to suppress it to make money; it's an extremely international health myth. I think Israel & India top the league table of believers (off hand).
