Leavers being so dead against a second referendum is just proof they know they'll lose, surely?

If we had one and they won again it would be the ultimate confirmation that it really is the will of the people.

By refusing to countenance it and describing it as a betrayal they may as well say it's not the will of the people anymore we're insisting on honouring something no one with any sense and without a vested interest wants and we should therefore call it off.

We're being forced into something the people who most support it clearly know is no longer the people's choice that's going to do horrible damage to the country. Just why can no one stop it???

If parliament are working so very hard to to dishonour the result of the first referendum why should any leave voters have any confidence that they would honour the result of a second should the vote again be to leave?

I believe that the first referendum has been found to have broken many laws? Surely, if people really do believe in a democracy, they would wish the laws of the land to be adhered to, in all circumstances, not just the ones which suit them?

Hasn't this been done to death?

Report

Yeah it has. Over and over and over and over.

People will say 'you dont have to click on it' but equally those people can bugger off to the Brexit board so the rest of us don't have to do ground hog day.

At least come out with some new shit other than it was illleeeegal, it was advviiiiisery, wail, weep, nash teeth. I'm sure people just have phrases stored somewhere they copy and paste on all threads.

Personally I'm really enjoying watching the Tories make themselves extinct. Shit happens for a reason.

How do you know that its clearly no longer the people's choice?

Leavers don't want another referendum because one was done almost three years ago. We were told that they would honor the result and so far it hasn't been done.

I'm a remainer but I can see why Leaver's wouldn't want another one for reasons other than they will definitely lose:

  1. It takes a long time to set up a referendum which is going to delay Brexit
  2. Having a referendum means having EU elections in May which they do not want
  3. If everyone votes yes again it's a massive waste of time and money.
  4. They have the result they want now why take the chance of it going to other way even if you are reasonably confident it'll still come out as Leave.

Personally I think any new referendum will be extremely close and I honestly couldn't call which way it would go.

I would like to revoke A50 based on what we now know but that's a whole other thread Grin

What would Leavers be voting for?

Keir Starmer (Labour's Shadow Brexit Secretary) told Sky News in February - that a no-deal Brexit should not be an option on the ballot paper in a second referendum - only credible (his words) Leave options allowed. That's a problem then.

I'm happy to have another in such a short time, as long as we can then haveanother if the result is remain maybe the following year?

So much is happening right now in EU... More information will be available to remainers ..so yes, sure.

Let's have another ( and another and yet another)

I think you'd be surprised OP

I am a remainer, who is sick of other remainers pushing for a re-vote and branding leavers as racist thicko's....

DH and I would vote leave now, even if it means hard Brexit, just to get out of this shit situation. Burn the bridges, and start negotiating.

Just fucking do it, you bunch of useless politicians, all in it for their own job, just.do.it.

This is how a previous remainer feels.

Bet I am not the only one

Because it would set a president that is unconstitutional- if you don’t get the result you want, just keep doing the vote over and over again until you get the result you want.

Makes one person, one vote worthless.

Where does it all stop?

So say remain won the next vote, then leavers stamp feet and whinge on and on like the ramainers have until they get another vote.

Where do you draw the line?

You can’t give the public a vote and then give them another one because you didn’t like the winning side of the vote you gave them!

Report
BeerandBiscuits · 07/04/2019 15:43

Where do you draw the line?

Have a referendum every 3 years. Because people might change their minds about leaving/joining in that time so it's only fair Grin.
