Is she lying?

I’m probably being unreasonable to say that I have a friend who continuously tells lies. I have distanced myself from her but she messaged saying her cousins liver is failing after an overdose and he’s been put on a special transplant list and will receive one in 2 days. Iv never heard of organs being available so quickly or their being a special list for others, Iv seen people wait years on organs!

I don’t even no why I posted I just had to rant. I’d hate to call her out on the off chance this one time it’s true

I just said I’d never been aware of there being a special list for anyone else and I’d never known someone to only wait 2 days on an organ 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sounds like bullshit but, unless she wants something from you I'd give her the benefit of the doubt. If all you're being asked for is platitudes and a sympathetic words then I'd probably offer them in case she's telling the truth - you don't want to be accusing her of lying if her cousin is genuinely very sick.

They are so entertaining when they come out with utter crap all the time.Is there any way you can find out the truth about this cos this is an absolute corker of a lie.

How would they know two days in advance that an organ will be available?

Report
SuchAToDo · 06/04/2019 00:37

2 days sounds a bit of a joke, I actually know someone who died after waiting just over four years for an organ he never got...

If organs were available that quick I imagine they would go to the ones already waiting in the waiting list,

I'd be tempted to call her bluff and tell her I'd sit with her for an hour at the hospital while she visits the relative...you will probably find if she is lying that the relative made a miraculous recovery all of a sudden

She’s lied about alotttt. Iv known her for 10 years, haven’t seen her in about 3. She messages me every now and again and it’s always when something is wrong I never call her out I usually just wish her well and don’t entertain it. But this happend before Christmas as well then there was no mention of it again. Now he’s back in hospital and she messaged I said oh so are they saying the same as last time that his organs might fail she said “not might they are” and I just said well he was okay last time so let’s just be hopeful. But tonight she’s messaged to say they are going to see how he is in the morning if not he’ll be having a transplant I was like well I hope he isn’t waiting too long & she said he’s going on a special list where he’ll have an organ in 48 hours they will do a UK search. I just said I’d never known someone to get an organ so fast 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have extreme anxiety I probably wouldn’t even travel to where she lives let alone offer. I just needed to know I wasn’t the only one who thought it was quick

Some people do just routinely tell pointless lies. My best friend growing up was one of these compulsive liars. She told me her dad got eaten by a lion! 😂 He’s still alive and kicking now 20 years on. I just take what she says with a pinch of salt now. It’s annoying but I don’t think people that lie like this actually mean any harm I think they just feel like they aren’t interesting enough on their own? So they need to fabricate things. It’s kind of sad really.

Hazandduck, sometimes I think that’s what it is. Other times I just can’t cope with the route of her lies someone attempting suicide and needing a liver transplant isn’t harmless.

Yes that story doesn’t seem very feasible, admittedly I don’t know much about the transplant process but that doesn’t ring true.

Some people stretch the truth to make their lives seem more interesting or to get attention/interest from other people. They’re normally harmless as they’re generally quite insecure and seeking validation from others.

Best to keep her at arms length if you don’t want the drama.

In my trust if you have taken a purposeful overdose to take your own life more than once they won’t give you a liver transplant .
So he may have had one previously( seems a bit unlikely ) but he would not get another one .
It’s also something that has quite a lot of follow up/ medication .

Oh no sorry I’m not trying to belittle your situation, it must be horrible. And yes thoughtless of your friend to say that. I personally wouldn’t confront her though. Even if she is lying just for attention, it must be for some underlying reason (she feels she needs your support etc).

If they have found a match, a living person can donate a piece of their liver. She may be confused, or her source of info may have misinformed her. If you want to see if she is making up the whole story, ask her if they definitely found a match, ask if she tested, and tell her you will test to see if you match and ask her for the details of the person needing a liver.

Wow, I didn't know that. Are kidneys the same then?

No she’s never mentioned him having any organ transplant before just that when he overdosed before christmas his organs were nearly failing then there was no mention of it again. So when she said the same cousin was back in hospital for the same thing I thought it was weird. No mention of a living doner I asked if they’d just test family and she said the tests take longer than the 48 hours to find him a doner they will put out a UK wide search and find one. I think we’ve all established she bullshits I just hadn’t heard of this extra special fact track organ list 🤷🏻‍♀️

Folk are bizarre !
Living liver transplants are much more complex than living kidney donations. I think the recovery and op is pretty tough on the doner.
Has she never been caught out via social media etc ?

I agree that she sounds like a compulsive liar, but there's no need to confront her about it. There's probably an underlying cause for this attention seeking behaviour. As long as you're only being asked to offer sympathy, there's no harm in playing along.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 06/04/2019 01:02

I supose your right, I just wished her well and told her to let me know. Probably better not to get into a discussion with her anyways

A relative was a compulsive liar. She put herself so deeply into the role and repeated the lies with such conviction. They were trivial lies but she would be so utterly convincing it was difficult not to give some benefit of the doubt, but on reflection, it became obvious that the stories just didn't add up.
She was a troubled person and def did it for attention and the stories were almost like her way of making life more interesting than they really were. She didn't understand the concept of trusting people or giving them the benefit of the doubt or even that it might not be worth the trouble to clarify or challenge an obvious whopper. She just thought she was really clever to put one over on you. It was a power game in a way.
