AIBU?

To ask if there’s a case to be made for MNHQ telling people to RTFT

Hear me out!

More and more lately there seems to be a huge amount of posters who don’t RTFT and who don’t even read the OP’s posts.

This irritates the fuck out of me I won’t lie.

But worse, it happens on sensitive threads.

Just the other day there was a surge of posters who couldn’t be arsed reading a thread about the OP’s childhood abuse.

Today, I’ve read a thread where posters were offering answers to the OP two days after the whole thing had been resolved.

It’s asked on here every now and again why people don’t RTFT and there are always shouts of “it’s too long” or “I’m answering the question asked in the OP”. Hmm

Well, if it’s too long to read why post?

And pages and pages after the OP people don’t think there’s the slightest possibility that a thread has moved on??

The whole MNHQ thing stepping in is no doubt ridiculous but ugh, I wish there was a rule where you’re not allowed to post without bloody well reading!!!

To me it seems so disrespectful to the OP.

And the people who announce that they haven’t read it, then plough in anyway as though announcing it has justified it!

I can’t be the only one who thinks this should fucking stop! Can I??

It’s an Internet forum.

It doesn’t matter.

They should have a feature where you can read all of the ops replies on the app it just gets too much !

I usually flip the thread if I can see it's been running for a day or so, or flick through to see the OP's highlighted posts.

I am a goody two shoes obviously 😉😊

I don’t use the app. Are the OP’s posts not green on the app?

Haven't read the whole thread, but clearly he is being a CF. Just cancel the cheque

So easy to do so WHY don’t people do it???

And yes, you’re very good! Grin

I only comment on threads I have read all the way through. If it's too long and I CBA to read it I don't comment because it's all been said most probably.

If people comment without reading the thread they run the risk of looking stupid, but they are probably only posting once on a thread and then going to the next and doing the same so they'll never know. Grin

The individual user has to choose to customise their account to show OP's posts in a highlighted colour.

That could become an automatic feature I guess, if MNHQ agreed.

I agree. I always read the ops posts at least before sticking my two penneth in.

This is probably true! 😡

I do think it's funny when people say 'I haven't read the thread but....' as a sort of disclaimer so people don't say 'yeah that's been said about three pages back'.

It's really easy to set it up to see the OP's posts in a different colour.

Why doesn’t everyone just do that then?! Confused

Today, I’ve read a thread where posters were offering answers to the OP two days after the whole thing had been resolved.

This happens all.the.fucking.time. And usually ends up with the same arguments being rehashed between a few new-to-the-thread posters who couldn't be bothered to RTFT.

I used to read babycentre forums and they have an option to read all the OPs responses, without having to scroll through 20 pages looking for them.

I always read all the OPs posts but it doesn't bother me if people don't RTFT, it's not like it's a group discussion, it's just people adding individual thoughts. Someone reading the thread might still get advice/an idea from a post by someone who hasn't read it.

It’s just so bloody unnecessary!

It baffles me that they come on hundreds of posts in thinking nobody has made the life-altering point they want to make.

*spoiler alert; someone’s already made the point!

I wish there was a way to just view posts by the OP. I try to read all the OPs posts but when there’s loads of pages I get bored of clicking!

Why doesn’t everyone just do that then?!

For the same reason they feel the need to spray their terribly important opinions everywhere without checking whether they’re relevant or potentially crushingly inappropriate.

Because they are the centre of the universe and it’s much more important that everyone gets the benefit of their wisdom than actually getting over their laziness/minute attention span to check the OP’s posts.

HollowTalk · 03/04/2019 20:13

I think the different colours for the OP's posts should be a default.

Report

it's not like it's a group discussion, it's just people adding individual thoughts.

I don’t think that’s true.
Threads more often than not go off on a tangent and do become a discussion.

OP’s often end up having a series of problems that come out in the course of a thread, for example.
