AIBU?

Settle this minor family dispute (lighthearted)

We normally have a tesco delivery Monday morning, but I unexpectedly had to work all day today (usually my half day) so I rebooked it for tomorrow as I couldn't get a slot for this evening. As a consequence, dinner was a last minute, whatever we've got in the cupboards affair. I made a quick tomato soup in the blender, but there wasn't enough bread for all 4 of us, and I suspect even if there was, we'd have been hungry later. So I baked some jacket potatoes and topped them with shit tons of cheese, and served it with salad.

Here's the dispute. DS10 and I think it was right up there with the best dinners ever.
DH and DD12 were utterly horrified. They ate it, and there were no complaints, but it was the idea of soup and a jacket potato together. Apparently it 'doesn't go' Hmm and I should refrain from such unorthodox food combinations in future.

AIBU to think that DH and DD are just heathens?

This is lighthearted BTW....

Needs must as the devil drives as they say, I would eat it without complaint, but in all honesty I wouldn't consider it a proper meal.

Sounds like maybe something you’d get in a Garden Centre, so why not?!

Also, am in awe that your slovenly, raid the cupboards dinner involves a homemade soup... Grin

Soup was the starter and potato the main. Sounds delicious!

Sandsnake it's 2 tins of chopped tomatoes, chicken stock (made from a stock cube) and some garlic puree whizzed up in a clever heaty-uppy blender. Cheaters soup Grin

My god! my last minute dinners are generally a random number of chicken nuggets/onion rings/mini sausage rolls and whatever other sweepings I can gather from the bottom of the freezer.

They should thank their lucky stars they don't live with me Wink

I'd have left home if my mother had served up such a concoction!

Tomato soup is for the ill.

'Doesn't sound like a proper meal' on what grounds?! Cheese, tomatoes, potato.. ?

it's a bit out there, but no one is hungry

I cannot really get my head around the whole Soup and a Sandwich thing either so Soup and a Jacket Potato would definitely raise my eyebrows Hmm

Proper meal if you served it as two courses, soup course followed by potatoes/salad. Weird if you served it all together.

Depends

Soup as a starter and jacket as main - fine

All together not fine

I'd never think to put soup together with jacket potato on the side but the thought doesn't disgust me. I'd of said the jacket potatoes would of been enough of a meal alone though

We had a what's left in the cupboard meal on Sunday due to a series of unfortunate events. We had chicken nuggets and fiahfingers, toast and popcorn it was the beigest (sp?) Meal you have ever seen. No complaints although I am a Yorkshire lass and therefore they are aware it's best to keep your opinions to yourself if you want to be fed again Smile

When I was little my mum used to do tomato soup with mash in the middle. I do it for my DS. I can’t see much difference with having it with a jacket instead but I wouldn’t have had the salad.
