What do you really want/want to do on mother's day??

I'm not talking about breakfast in bed and a nice bunch of flowers....

Here's my ideal day....

Kids wake up at 7am but dh gets up....then quietly takes them downstairs....and goes out for the ENTIRE day.

So I'll carry on sleeping until around 8.30/9ish....then I'll go down and make my own breakfast just how I really want it....maybe poached eggs or an omelette.

Then I might just sit in silence for a bit.

Then I'll clean....and I mean really clean with music on full blast....and I'll be loving it as there is absolutely no one else here to mess it up. I'll probably spend my morning cleaning and feel amazing and refreshed afterwards.

Then as I'm dieting, I'll make myself a lovely healthy lunch. Salad. Quick and easy. No complaining from anyone. Just one meal....for me. And I'll pop everything straight in the dishwasher so the kitchen stays tidy.

Then it's a toss up between going out and doing abit of retail therapy or catching up on tv. I'm guessing I'd go with the tv option as Im never ever in the house alone without the dcs so I'd want to make the most of it.

Nice bubble bath first. Uninterrupted. No one needing to come in for a wee or to tell me what they want for Christmas this year.

Then it has to be pjs on. Tv on. What I want to watch. Not paw patrol. Not my little pony. Not football. I'll be watching Corrie....I'm 2 months behind on it. So that will take up the rest of my day.

Ideally dh will come home with the dcs and somehow will of got them bathed and in their pjs so literally all I need to do is cuddle them until putting them to bed.

And that's it. The end.

Reality of tomorrow.... I'm doing a buffet for my whole family and mother in law. There will be a total of 8 children in my house 👍🏻

Sleep, Netflix, lunch out somewhere. Perfect.

Oh, ask your Dh to grant you your wish next weekend ! You deserve it !

What I really want: my mum. This is our first mother's day without her.

What I really want to do/ have: A lie in , and a nice lunch, but I have a 2 and a half year old and my partner is away until tomorrow afternoon! I've told him he owes me a lie in for next week lol

missmapp Sat 30-Mar-19 22:34:01

Morning run
Home to breakfast with family and slow read of the papers at table
Listen to archers omnibus while cooking / doing jobs. DC will of course be quietly doing homework/ music practice with no nagging or shouting involved.
Family beach walk, picnic, lovely family talk. No sibling fights.
Home, film, roast, tea, bed .

The day will have that structure but I doubt it will be as calm and quiet as I hope ,!!

Ooh your ideal day sounds like bliss!!

I'm getting a lie in tomorrow, then taking our daughter swimming (she's 10 months and it's my first mother's day so I'd rather be with her!) and then off out for a meal!

IchibanLipstickForMen Sat 30-Mar-19 22:37:01

I'm sure in a few years time I'll be wanting a spa day though haha grin

trebless Sat 30-Mar-19 22:37:44

@IchibanLipstickForMen ahh lovely, first Mother's Day is such a special one :-) enjoy

I can say for me and 3 dcs later.....I love them more than words can say....but tomorrow I'd love a 'me' day :-)

trebless Sat 30-Mar-19 22:40:08

@IchibanLipstickForMen oooo spa day....can't believe I never thought of doing that. hmm

Now I'm sat here thinking wether to go for that instead like it's actually going to happen grin

Older daughter will come up in the morning, younger coming for 2 days in her own time, older son has been up and left a gift, younger son will probably be in touch.

What I really want:

A lie in!

DH home from overseas to help the kids in their efforts, they are only small but know it's Mother's Day.

Morning to myself, I'd go for a run, then home, blitz tidy/clean and then out for a nice brunch on my own. Two coffees and time to mull over a magazine.

Then go to the shops for a mooch, maybe get nails done for holiday next week.

Meet DH and kids at a naice pub for their dinner and a few wines for me.

DH would take care of bath/bedtime. I'd do cuddles and stories!

Bath, then catch up with masterchef final.

Bliss!

My reality.....

Kids will come in 6am and jump on me.
I'm doing my first race for a while tomorrow at 8am so out the door by 7am.
Back home to carnage as DM is babysitting while I run.
Might take kids to cafe and playground
That's it.....

DH has at least sent flowers!

I'd like to spend it with my kids. Sorry if that doesn't make me part of the cool gang.

I have plenty of days like you describe though, maybe that's the difference.

TORDEVAN Sat 30-Mar-19 22:42:34

Currently the plan for tomorrow involves running around visiting (having meals with) my family and my husband's family. It's also a family birthday which makes it more interesting.
My ideal mother's day would be shorter visits to family (and no family birthdays on the day), then spend the day relaxing with my DH and my DC.

trebless Sat 30-Mar-19 22:46:13

@Olivetoil I think you are more in the cool gang than I am :-)

Livedandlearned Sat 30-Mar-19 22:46:24

I can't remember the last time I was alone in the house. Months ago. 😢

Olivetoil Sat 30-Mar-19 22:55:52

@trebless I've been a bit snippy. Apologies. Before kids Mother's Day was always an incredibly hard day for me for lots of reasons I won't bore you with. I can appreciate your post is lighthearted and I shouldn't have clicked but reading things like I'd rather spend the day alone rather than with my kids hits me in a sore spot. I'm not usually so joyless, I promise. Time for bed I think.

Hope you have a good day tomorrow

Mrsoh39 Sat 30-Mar-19 23:02:11

A cup of tea in bed, and for someone else to walk the dog, I doubt either will happen grin

Dropitlikeitshot Sat 30-Mar-19 23:02:46

My ideal day is to be spoilt by DH in lieu of our 2 yo DD and bump, whilst not having a single screaming fit from our little cherub, and being able to eat my breakfast in bed in peace.

Sadly she’s a bit demonic at the moment, so I may not get that, but she gives a cracking cuddle after she’s calmed down.

TheTalentedMiss Sat 30-Mar-19 23:04:09

I'm a single mum to 2 very small children, I'm skint- my expectations are definitely zero.
All things considered I think at least a couple of hours sunshine and no rain will be the only thing that would make tomorrow easier for me and that might be possible.
Sunshine please!

Baconislife Sat 30-Mar-19 23:11:54

I would love the day of work so I can have lunch and a country walk with my girls.
Instead I will be cooking brunch/lunch for all the lucky mums who have a table reserved

Persimmonn Sat 30-Mar-19 23:17:59

Sleep in an empty house
Eat breakfast in an empty house
Have a peaceful poo

But dh is going into work at 12. He took them out to the park today so I had a little bit of alone time. My birthday is a week before mother’s day so I got my peace and quiet last week for my b-day instead grin

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer Sat 30-Mar-19 23:20:27

I stared my mothers day at 7pm today

I have had a lovely evening. Now pleasantly buzzed and dh, ds1 and his boyfriend and ds2 are playing Mariocart

I'll lie in tomorrow and have a lovely lunch before ds1 and his boyfriend go home, probably play some games in the afternoon

And a bath probably grin

Hope everyone has a lovely day tomorrow

These threads always have me wondering how people manage to love such dull lives, I do all the things op wants to do most days, and I have (many)dc! Stop being a martyr! flowers
