To buy my Nan a Mother's Day card?

I'm very close to my grandmother and have always bought her a Mother's Day card, even since a child.

DP thinks I'm weird for doing this and asked why I buy her one. He is also close to his Nan but has never bought her a card or gift for Mother's Day.

AIBU for doing this? Do you do this for your GM?

I always buy my gran a card and gift!

I used to as a child when she was still alive.
She was a woman who I loved, usually made a card and bought a plant for the garden, something small like a pansy.

I used to get for my nan, my great nan and my aunt on Mother's Day.

Similarly grandad and uncle on Father's Day

Bit harsh to think you're weird. All families have their own ways of doing things and different traditions. It's lovely to do that for your nan.

I do! My nana has been more of a mother to me than my actual mother.

I think that's lovely. My toddler made my mum a mother's day card from him and his baby sister - she does a lot for them (and me).

i’ve always bought cards and presents for both my nanna’s - and so do most of the people i know. me and my sister even buy each other auntie cards from our kids.

I wish my Nan was still here to buy a card for...

I think it's a bit weird, tbh. It's mother's day. Why not celebrate your grandmother on grandparents' day?

mcjx Sat 30-Mar-19 23:21:05

@bridgetreilly didn't even know there was a grandparents day? My Nan is my only surviving grandparent, the rest are deceased.

Surely makes sense to buy her a Mother's Day card

Always got my nans a Mother's Day card, my kids do it now for their 3 nans, I think it's lovely ❤️

My DC send their DGM a card, it's a nice thing to do & she really appreciates it.

I always used to send my Nan a card and my DC would send her a Great Grandma card.
My DC now buy a Gran card for my Mum.

Always got my nan's a card and gift from a child (through parents) now I still do it as an adult for my 1 remaining nana.
I don't get cards off my dc for dm or mil though as it all gets a bit expensive! Just get them gifts off me and dh.

DrBuckles Sat 30-Mar-19 23:44:56

We do Mother’s day for nans in my family. Dh has never and finds it a bit weird.

Of course! And a present. I also send my aunty and my dad's wife a card. My mom is no longer with us. I don't really like mothers day, but it's easier than it was.

I'm not saying you shouldn't do it if you want to, which obviously you do. But it really doesn't make sense. She's not your mother.

Grandparents' Day

I get my DGM one since DM died

negomi90 Sun 31-Mar-19 00:41:36

Just ordered flowers for her to be delivered today. Just because I want to and I can so why not?

I think it is a great thing to do. Importantly, it is your choice and nobody else's business. Ignore your partner.

Seren85 Sun 31-Mar-19 00:49:57

I've always bought a card for my Gran. Would feel weird not to!

YouBumder Sun 31-Mar-19 00:54:29

I always did for my Gran and now my boys do for my mum.

YouBumder Sun 31-Mar-19 00:57:11

Maybe we just didn’t celebrate it but I don’t remember Grandparents Day being a thing when I was younger.

If it was that odd a thing to do Gran/Nan Mothering Sunday cards wouldn’t be around in shops.
