I know there are wonderful things about life. But most of it is pretty mundane.

Life is what you make it. I like the "mundane" as I love the people around me and my job by working to achieve a good family life and career choice.

Oh and cutting out toxic people.

Sometimes life isn't great, sometimes it's breathtakingly wonderful. Whichever it is it's preferable to the alternative, for me.

It’s better than the alternative, don’t be such a misery guts.

I’m glad I had a lot of fun in my younger years. I’m a little more settled now, but I’ve had a good time far & been lucky in life. I’m not rich, and I don’t own anything, but I’m fairly happy...

ThroughASashWindow Your post reminded me of this quote:

"Life is amazing. And then it's awful. And then it's amazing again. And in between the amazing and the awful, it's ordinary and mundane and routine. Breathe in the amazing, hold on through the awful, and relax and exhale during the ordinary. That's just living heartbreaking, soul-healing, amazing, awful, ordinary life. And it's breathtakingly beautiful." ~LR Knost

I find it easy to take pleasure in little things even though my life isn't exciting.

I've always thought that mundane is good when you hear so many horrible things happening to other people, it's good to have had a good but otherwise uneventful
day :)

Right, and so far this thread has the lucky people who are grateful for the good and the dull or good, dull and bad.

What about the unlucky people who end up with awful after awful after horrific after awful after devastating...?

It's random dumb luck. It's fucking easy to "choose a positive mindset" if you've had the dumb luck to be in the camp of lucky people who don't know how good they've got it.

😂 that's such bullshit. I've been in the awful thing after awful thing happening Camp and I've been in the "lucky" camp. Each time it's been myself and how I've tackled the issue or dealt with it in some way that has got me through. You aren't just always in 1 camp or another and I dont believe in luck.

Maybe you genuinely have had awful thing after awful thing happen. But when people say this and follow it up with it was how they dealt with it, usually what they have experienced is the awful stuff we all deal with such as a parent dying.

Threads like this make me sad. Sad that anyone feels like this because I can't relate, but I know many people do feel that life is terrible.

OP are there any steps that you could take to improve your sense of well-being?

Report
BirdieInTheHand · 30/03/2019 17:45

When one awful thing happens and you're in the lucky camp it's much easier to deal with. It's nothing to do with "how you deal with it" and everything to do with the fact that it was an isolated incident.

Birdie I have a great partner, a job I enjoy and friends. Just a bit worn down by life I think.

oneforthepain I lived the breathtakingly awful, soul destroying, life altering, horrifically awful for the first 17 years of my life. ..and I have suffered the consequences of that ever since..So, I'm not speaking from a position of easy glibness.

I love mundane. Love it. I love doing the laundry, doing my band 2 nhs job, stroking my dog, sitting in the garden. Bloody love every mundane minute.

You know, it does not help anyone to be told if only they changed their attitude everything would be different.

If you're in good health, have a roof over your head and enough to eat, then it's not really, is it?

CheshireChat · 30/03/2019 18:03

There's situations where no matter what your approach is, they're still utterly shit and it's ok to say as much. Not everything is fixable.

I do think that learning to enjoy some of the mundane aspects is good as there's no escaping them.

I have 2/3 too. Not good health unfortunately but still am happy with what I've got and it could be worse.

You know, it does not help anyone to be told if only they changed their attitude everything would be different. It might not help but that is the answer. Smile

Next time something crap happens. Lets start off with a small thing. Like having to wait in a long queue say. Accept it. Surrender to it. Try it. It takes practice and I'm no expert btw, I'm still trying and it helps.
