To think at 25 I shouldn’t be called a young person

I’ve been out of university for four years now. I work in a professional career and have a one year old daughter. Today at work I was referred to as a young person by colleague. When I think of young people I think of people who are just getting started in life.

SOrry but at 25 you are just getting started in adult life - enjoy it while you can

I’d over 40 and would be so happy to be called a young person! Enjoy it while you can!

When you are in your 40s like me you will understand why people refer to you as young.

Seriously it is small stuff don't sweat it.

Make the most of it :-)

25 is young, savour it

25 is definitely young! (she says wistfully)

I'm 29 in a few months and still regularly referred to as a young person.

I'm 26, have a 4 year old daughter. I would love to be called a young person. Where i work the young people are 16/17/18. I am still pretty young as far as adult life goes.

I'm 32 and people at my work still say I'm young. Not an issue for me, but then I also prefer to be called a girl rather than a woman so maybe I'm weird.

I think you are young. Enjoy it. You are young, educated, professional - really you are in a great place and being referred to as young (which you are) is nothing bad. If they dismiss your opinion/input because "you are young' then call them on it.

You don’t think 25 is young?

Onceuponacheesecake Fri 29-Mar-19 22:22:03

You are young. I consider a young person 18-25.

I'm 37. If anyone refers to me as young I positively beam. It's just a descriptor of relative age, it's not an insult or a put down. In some contexts I am young. In many more contexts, you are young. Doesn't mean you aren't capable, skilled, educated, confident, admired etc.

Being in your twenties is young though! It isn't the same as being immature, so I wouldn't be annoyed about it.

I guess I would be a young person to some people and I'm in my 40s...

TheCanyon Fri 29-Mar-19 22:25:35

Fuck sake, im 32 and I'm a young one in my head, please no-one burst my bubble.

SandyY2K Fri 29-Mar-19 22:25:51

In social care when we say CYP (children and young people), it's up to 25.

It also depends on who is calling you young. A 50+ year old will consider you young for some years to come.

DailyMailSucksWails Fri 29-Mar-19 22:26:14

OP: I'll have your young person's rail card if you don't want it!

CripsSandwiches Fri 29-Mar-19 22:26:27

Of course you're a young person! You're barely out of uni! You can't have been in your career more than 3 years (probably minus a year for maternity).

SquigglySquaw Fri 29-Mar-19 22:26:53

25 is young. Was it just a passing comment or do they treat you differently because you're young?

ILikeyourHairyHands Fri 29-Mar-19 22:27:02

32 is young!

Justonemorepancake Fri 29-Mar-19 22:28:49

You are young. Revel in it. Doesn't matter how much life experience you have, it's not about your maturity - it's a fact that 25 is a young age. (Lucky cow)

GreatAuntBertha Fri 29-Mar-19 22:29:10

Getting annoyed at such a trivial thing is such a young person's response.

Slat3 Fri 29-Mar-19 22:29:32

I’m 25 with two kids. I’m young!
