To worry about civil unrest today?

Today is the day we were supposed to be leaving the EU. Instead, Parliament will be having yet another vote, this time on half of T May's deal. I do wonder if some pissed off leave voters will be so disappointed and angered, they'll take to the streets - not only in peaceful demos, but actual rioting. Even a small riot can escalate to alarming proportions quite quickly.

My dd is going to Belfast today on a college trip & staying overnight (we are in the republic) and I was worried about her crossing the border in case there was trouble. Her college lecturer wasn’t worried though & dd is very excited so all I can do is hope she’ll be ok. I’m sure she will be but I’ll still worry. She’s brought her passport just in case. She probably won’t need it.

I can't see it happening, they're happy to express such views online but actually doing something is another ball game altogether. Also anyone who does riot is the sort of person to do so regardless of the reason.

Have you seen the numbers on the 'march for Brexit'? The majority of the country no longer want Brexit so I don't think there will be civil unrest - just some more moaning.

I think that is a concern. BUT I am optimistic that the vast majority of people on both sides of the Brexit divide will not engage with them which means that any impact will be limited.

I am also optimistic that the vast majority of people -again on both sides - are sophisticated enough to see through the 3 second sound bite headlines “ Brexit means Brexit” etc. and will,for the moment, be content to follow events as they unfold. Nothing has yet been decided so it would be premature to take to the barricades!

This whole thing is a shambles- out parliament is fucked.

I honestly don't see why a third referendum is a bad idea tbh! We know the issues now, let us vote again (can almost guarantee it'll be a 100% tie or Remain majority).

Most leavers are feeling optimistic that we are much closer to leaving in the next few weeks, so no I don't think there will be unrest today, but there will absolutely be incredible unrest by the end of May if we haven't left by then.

Most leavers I know are beyond livid it has taken so long. Patience is wearing thin, and yes civil unrest is very very possible in the next few months, not just in London if brexit is further delayed.

I do not condone violence of any kind and certainly can not support riots, however I can understand the sentiment that if you have done the right thing and voted, and you won the vote, you may reasonably expect that vote to be respected and implemented. If this does not happen and democracy fails, then society is likely to unravel quickly as well. I don't think anyone can be surprised if this happens across the whole of the UK.

After a huge well-organised rally to support a people's vote, it will look exceptionally pants if leavers try to organise something and it's not as big or descends into chaos.

I mean some people won't care about that obviously and might just want to kick off, but I can see why the leave campaign on the whole are lying relatively low.

I think the whole “we’ll riot if ignored” was a huge red herring and should never have been taken seriously.

Sure. Because leaving a union we’ve been in for decades, which was a part of everything in our economy, and negotiating that with 27 individual countries, none of whom want us to leave, and finding an agreement which suited the electorate all with different reasons for wanting to leave and whom half of never wanted to leave in the first place, was so simple it could be done in a few months.

Or, it was always going to be insanely difficult, if only we’d all been warned of that.....oh hang on, we were but it was ridiculously laughed off as “project fear”

It's heartening to read most think nothing major will happen. I understand both sides ire at the way things have gone, hopefully we merely have a Twitterstorm and no physical clashes.

There's a number of Leave voters on our local community groups, being very vocal from behind a keyboard at JUST how annoyed they are but taking exception to people asking them if they're going on the march today.

Apparently we can expect civil unrest but not today as they can't be bothered
