I can just about tolerate kids using that phrase but when I hear adults saying it, it really riles me. A man in work, a bloody solicitor said it to me the other day. I gave him one of my looks and asked him was he reversing in age and he took it back quick enough. I don't think I'll be hearing that phrase from him again

I'm pretty sure my bad originates from at least the 80s/90s on basketball courts in the US. Probably popularised in films shortly after...although I can't think of any off hand.

If used in a playful/informal nature, I don't see the harm or issue.

I actually hate it because what it is saying is 'I am not actually taking any responsibility for what I have just done/said despite you saying that was incorrect/hurtful/wrong'.. In fact its also saying 'I am not taking you seriously at all'. And that is why I hate it so much.

I just googled it and apparently Shakespeare said it in a sonnet or something. Then Alicia Silverstone in Clueless and it's been around ever since.

I'm sure Phoebe in Friends said it a few times too. Obviously that gives it an authenticity which makes it officially part of the English language . So, you know, your bad.
