So our schools & NHS are struggling...but Jeremy Cunt can authorise this

Treaclesweet Wed 27-Mar-19 07:10:33

Absolutely ridiculous! No money for the NHS, no plan for how people will get their medicine, but 16 million pounds for a fancy flat. The blatant corruption of this government is insane.

Queenunikitty Wed 27-Mar-19 07:23:00

This flat will be used to host important networking/business drinks/parties/meetings every day. It is not all going to be given over to be his personal space. That’s why it needs to be so large, it also needs to be impressive to show the world what a great prosperous nation we are. It is much more cost effective than maintaining a historic building with lots of staff. Also a bonus that the building is designed by a British architect. We have these working residences all over the world. You can bet the French, Germans and Italians have the equivalent. I have visited many, many of these places globally, it’s about how we project ourselves to the world, international trade is something we once dominated, educate yourself.

That's fair enough when thier is a budget for essential and the country isn't on its knees. I wonder how many Tory ministers will get to use it for a nice little jolly. 7 bedrooms FFS ...yeah we are all in this shit together

ThumbWitchesAbroad Wed 27-Mar-19 07:44:27

^"it also needs to be impressive to show the world what a great prosperous nation we are.it also needs to be impressive to show the world what a great prosperous nation we are.^"

Ahahahaa. Lie to everyone else, you mean then. The only people prospering in the UK at the moment seem to be the Cuntservatives and their allies at the top.

longwayoff Wed 27-Mar-19 07:52:55

Oh this is absolutely ESSENTIAL and will facilitate schmoozing as bits of the NHS are flogged off to US companies.

Acis Wed 27-Mar-19 07:53:46

If it's a networking space, why are 7 bedrooms needed?

ShatnersWigIsActuallyAMammoth Wed 27-Mar-19 08:01:01

Be prepared for more of this with Brexit. We'll be doing all sorts of this in all sorts of countries as part of trying to get trade deals to replace the loss of the ones with the EU27.

PregnantSea Wed 27-Mar-19 08:01:36

A great prosperous nation? Have I gone back in time? Last time I checked we were the laughing stock of the western world.

kingfisherblue33 Wed 27-Mar-19 08:01:51

1. Remember that the Guardian is a left-wing paper.
2. Where would you find a property with a huge space for entertaining but no bedroms, Acis?? That's what these apartments have been designed for. They will be full of diplomats.
3. Agree with Queenunikitty. The UK can't hold post-Brexit talks in a Manhattan townhouse or a slum in the projects. The property needs to inspire confidence in the UK. <hollow laugh. As if the rest of the world hasn't been laughing at our govt's pathetic attempts to negotiate Brexit>

GCAcademic Wed 27-Mar-19 08:02:43

international trade is something we once dominated, educate yourself.

I’m pretty sure I understand how we dominated international trade. It was by having an empire, not by schmoozing people and getting on our knees in front of US medical companies and their industrial farming lobby. Neither are anything to be proud of.

cdtaylornats Wed 27-Mar-19 08:10:16

Annual budget NHS 127.7 billion
So the cost is about 1 ten billionth of a percent of the NHS budget for 1 year. Not really going to make a difference. Numerical illiteracy is a real problem.

This is an asset it will hold its value.

Do you think Britain's consul general should have trade meetings in the bike shed round the back of the UN?

It will have 5 bedrooms as the staff rooms are being removed. Perhaps the occupant might have children or visitors - perhaps you'd prefer if he had to live a lonely existence.

Still good to see the harridans of the left coming out with the usual Tory bashing shite.

longwayoff Wed 27-Mar-19 08:12:49

Is it not in Trump Tower? That would be particularly fitting.

BarbarianMum Wed 27-Mar-19 08:14:51

I thought we once dominated international trade by having a strong navy and colonising everything and exploiting it. Not dure it was down to entertaining space- or is the the C21 equivalent? Look at our selection of canapes and tremble at our might!

GPatz Wed 27-Mar-19 08:15:27

'Educate yourself' 🙄

Heratnumber7 Wed 27-Mar-19 08:16:40

7 bedrooms for all the staff to sleep in in surely. Cheaper than a hotel.

Yabbers Wed 27-Mar-19 08:28:26

But if there was an overseas trip and it transpired that they spent a million pounds in putting up MPs and their staff, including the security there would be an outcry?

There are seven rooms because a minister doesn’t just hop on the plane with their carry-on backpack by themselves.

This.

Like it or not, the UK will NEED a trade-deal with the US and we will will need to flog significant parts of the NHS to get the deal.

rollwiththis Wed 27-Mar-19 08:46:47

Don't know if it's worse that m they've spent such a ridiculous amount or that other ordinary people are defending it while other ordinary folk are dying waiting for their disability benefits 🤔. There are these amazing things called hotels. They have meeting rooms. It's even rumoured that there are some to be found in New York.

Evilspiritgin Wed 27-Mar-19 08:51:33

Why is it the us healthcare that’s bandied about, it’s like there is no other country in the world with private health care

Bluerussian Wed 27-Mar-19 08:57:01

I don't get why you are so cross, Bert, when you consider the purpose behind this purchase. Nor why you call Jeremy a 'c**t'. Totally unnecessary.

Treaclesweet Wed 27-Mar-19 09:00:44

Numerical illiteracy is a real problem.

As I can see from your post. Its actually about 0.01% or one-hundreth of a percent wink

@cdtaylornats

thedisorganisedmum Wed 27-Mar-19 09:06:20

When you see how much the royal family costs us, I cannot get worked up about that one. Palaces would make just as much an impression to the world if they were opened to the public, and not just "private" residence with maintenance funded by the tax payer.

VanGoghsDog Wed 27-Mar-19 09:16:22

Rent a bloody office space, like every other organisation does?

Buster72 Wed 27-Mar-19 09:24:56

A 7 bed networking space? Hang on we are British we meet at the pub!
I reckon we would do far better and even turn a profit if we set up a British theme pub, with a room upstairs for the really big meetings, and invited the big wigs for a knees up.
Prince Andrew, who is a business envoy, could pull pints behind the bar....
