AIBU?

To think when police resources are allegedly so stretched and crime levels are on the rise, this isn't a good use of an inspector's time?

twitter.com/HarryTheOwl/status/1110503943245688832 Twitter thread starts here.

EweSurname collated it on another thread. Conversation between Harry and a police inspector goes like this:

Harry The Owl - Limerick Criminal
@HarryTheOwl*
I am stunned, shocked, upset, aghast and fuming.Just had Inspector Wilson from @Humberbeat call me re my complaint

Me: Did I commit a crime?
Him: No. But you have upset a lot of people in the trans community.
Me: I do not believe Trans women are women. How do I state that without it causing upset?
Him: Why would you tweet that? Why do you feel the need?

Me: Because I am taking part in a national conversation.
Him: But why do you feel the need to do that?
Me: Because I am a citizen and believe political engagement is necessary. Why are you asking me this?
Him: Because I don’t see why you feel the need to say this.

Me: I can’t believe you, a police inspector, are questioning my involvement in politics. What right have you to do that?
Him: You do have the right. I’m just asking why you feel the need to engage in hate.
Me: Hate? Where’s the fucking hate?
Him: Maybe it’s the wrong wording.

Me: you are a fucking Inspector. You do not get to tell me that expressing a legally held view is hate. And you don’t get to pressure me to stop debating politically.
Him: If you swear, I will end this conversation.

Me. Ok. But I’m angry that you are ringing me and asking me why I’d want to be involved in politics.
Him: You have every right to be involved in politics. But why would you tweet your views when it upsets the trans community?

Me: let me get this straight. I said I do not believe trans women are women, and you ask me why I feel the need to tweet that. Right?
Him: Right. Exactly.
Me: I am ending this conversation now.
Hangs up

I am devastated.

Now, whether or not you think transwomen are women, transmen are men, there are obvious freedom of speech issues here.

Last week Caroline Farrow was called by the police because she had misgendered Susie Green's child on Twitter and she was lambasted by Piers Morgan and Susannah Reid on GMB yesterday for not being nice.

On Thursday Dr Julia Long was physically ejected from a public meeting for which she had a ticket by seven police officers because the people running the meeting thought she might be about to ask an awkward question.

What's going on here? When did the police get powers to stop people being blunt and causing hurt feelings to the thinskinned?

This worries me.

I have a dear friend who's on a police urgent list (don't know it's correct name, sorry) because of her exH who beat her, and wanted to kill her in front of her children.

If she calls, the police have to respond immediately to actual violence. Not political views & beliefs.

TRAs make me sick. I hate the discrimination against non-forming men and women ("feminine" men and "masculine" women) - Hannah Gadsby talks about how she's been beaten up for being a butch woman.

But transactivists are making me resent and suspect any trans person.

I also have a friend on one of those lists.

She rang police to come because a few male relatives of her exh and her exh were beating on her door.

They came out the following day and said they couldn’t do anything because her ex hadn’t hung around.

Another friend was broken into by several armed men. She dialled 999 on her mobile whilst running for a bedroom and barricading herself in.The police took an hour to respond and even then weren’t interested.

There was no finger prints taken and they even left one of the weapons behind.

I have heard of more chasing after people misgendering and hurting someone’s feelings than actually chasing or catching violent criminals.

As someone posted on FWR, it seems that the police now report to Susie Green, not the Home Secretary. Baffling. Confused

Well, Oliversmumsarmy vulnerable women at risk from actual male violence aren't as important as men who want to be regarded as women and so just melt at someone naming their biological sex accurately.

Because obviously, that's what women do in the face of male violence. Melt and tantrum.

Our friends, and all of us who are survivors of male violence, and learn to look after ourselves and deal with it from the age of , oooh, say 11 years old - well - it's obvious, we're just not doing this womanning thing properly.

It is totally unfathomable for any other group of people. Especially women.

Isn't that how we determine that the police also don't think transwomen are women, as they are responding in completely disproportionate ways?

Apologies for error. Meant called 'them' not 'you'.

Laws are made in parliament - speak to your MP (waste of time btw as they will spout the pro trans stuff, tho my mp agreed with me about the sport issue, didn't put it in writing tho).
Police can't individually and independently decide who are arrested/ warned/ prosecuted - speak to your MP.

A police inspector inspecting opinions eh? In actual fact, biologically speaking, Harry is right. This does not negate trans women’s right to identify as female, live as female and transition if they choose. Free of discrimination. Regardless, Harry has a perfect right to say what he did.

Twitter is a fucking minefield of police inspectors with their “stonewall ally” and flags.

I’m just waiting on the global email coming round at work (Police) telling us we all have to be trans allies. I feel it’s on its way.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 28/03/2019 08:09

Unbelievable. There is an actual epidemic of knife crime, a continuing catalogue of assaults on women - you would think the police have priorities enough, but would rather harass people lest their opinions make TRAs all sad. This is rotten to the very core.

Report
WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 28/03/2019 08:10

So, according to the police, thought crime, future crime (bet Julia didn’t think she’s be walking into Minority Report that evening) and hurty feelz crime are now actual, real things that need thorough investigation.

Meanwhile there’s a fucking knife crime epidemic that’s in part happening due to cuts? If I was Cressida Dick or any of her peers I’d be raining hellfire and brimstone down on these imbeciles.

Stompythedinosaur · 28/03/2019 08:14

I think the police can do a great deal of good by having a word with people to discourage antisocial behaviour (which is what publicly insulting minority groups is).

Would you be upset if police time had been spent asking someone not to tweet that black people are animals or gay people should be killed?

Or is this just another anti-trans thread dressed up as a concern about policing?

Stompy the 2 examples you used are hate crimes. Stating a biological fact is not.
