Social media posts that annoy you the most?

Anyone else find particular types of social media posts teeth-grittingly, skin-crawlingly annoying AF? A few examples of the little gems that make me cringe:

- "soppy status alert" followed by ramblings about how this man is her rock blah blah blah. These people live together.. why doesn't she just say it to him across the sofa? Why the need to tell everyone in fb/Instagram land??

- the attention seeking "cryptic" status. Usually goes something like: 'I just feel so alone, I don't know how this could happen to me' where the actual thing they're upset about is purposefully not mentioned so that they get tons of comments asking about it!

- Those long winded statuses that say at the end "if you're my true friend you'll copy and repost this on your feed, if you don't I'll know our friendship isn't true". Errrm no, it's just that IMO our friendship is a RL thing and with two toddlers to chase after at home I don't really have time to be sat reposting bloody essays on social media (she says... posting a grumpagram on MN blush)!

- the "quitting social media" or "taking time away from social media" posts. Okay, totally understand that it's good to unplug (in fact, my gripe with social media generally is that people need to be more present and enjoy experiences rather than friggin posting about them!) but if you truly wanted to unplug I figure you'd just stop using the app for a bit. No need to announce it surely? RL friends will know you're okay as I'm certain people don't simply use FB/IG for contact!?

- the standard Christmas/Easter/MothersDay/Birthday/Thursday posts, usually with a photo collage of the day itself. On Xmas it would typically have pictures of the presents in piles (which in itself seems a bit showy) with captions like "the boy did good" or "totally spoilt". Yes. Yes you are.

- finally.. the bloody Juice Plus/ Nutrilife/ Skinny Coffee/ Herbalife posts trying to get you on their sodding pyramid scheme with enticing BS about earning £220 an hour from your sofa! Bore off.

There are so many more but that's a start! Can you tell I'm in a grumpy Monday mood halo

I don’t like the standardised
I love my son, daughter, mum, dad, dog, flying rabbit share if you agree posts.
I do just skip on by with brief eye roll though coz it’s not my business.

The “win a holiday” ones never fails to amaze me that people still believe these things!

I do roll my eyes at the soppy posts when a few days early they have been calling them all the names under the sun. Just shows how far from reality fb can be!

But I just scroll past most things that don’t interest me

Anything that stinks of attention seeking, especially when the OP puts something up like "feeling sad" etc and then awaits an avalanche of "U OK hun?"
Anything that looks like data harvesting
Trout pout pictures
Racist/ageist/disablist, anything posts

Halloumimuffin Mon 25-Mar-19 08:31:58

The 'only 2% of people will share this, the ones who don't obviously love cancer and want everyone to get it, share if you think people dying of cancer is bad' type posts

Minion memes of the most banal things like 'share if you also like coffee!' with unrelated picture of minion.

Happy birthday collages - because obviously, it is someone else's birthday, and the best way to celebrate that is to post a load of pictures of them doing embarrassing things with you looking hot alongside, just so everyone knows what a great friend you are and how mad your constant nights out are.

MadamGrumpsalot Mon 25-Mar-19 08:32:06

Oh god yes. Essentially any pout pictures!

AirMass Mon 25-Mar-19 08:33:14

The public thank yous for a great night out or dinner at someone's house with lots of photos attached. Just text them and say thanks!!!

Halloumimuffin Mon 25-Mar-19 08:34:09

Oh and I don't actually mind a food post if it's something delicious looking, but my stepdad shares a picture of his homemade, squashed in his bag, soggy bacon sandwich, EVERY SINGLE FRIDAY MORNING.

mrsed1987 Mon 25-Mar-19 08:36:22

Def the cryptic ones and then when people ask if they are ok 'yeh dont worry'

BricksInTheWall Mon 25-Mar-19 08:38:46

Those fucking "here is your Sunday night reminder that you are awesome, life is good, you've got this" and various other motivational bollocks. Then you spot them in Tesco with faces like thunder and screaming at little Darcey Mae who was their reason for living only 2 days ago. Snore off 😁 bloody hate Facebook and seriously considering deleting it. Hate feeling compelled to check in on other people's lives first thing of a morning before I've even checked in on myself.

Witchofzog Mon 25-Mar-19 08:40:06

Posts wishing their babies and young children a happy birthday with a emotional message for them. They can't read, they don't have Facebook. Why?

Constant posting about dead people, claiming they are so upset about their passing years on, even when you know they weren't especially close.

Absolutepowercorrupts Mon 25-Mar-19 08:42:15

I have one who posts.
Just checking in to A&E
I just scroll on by

HalfBloodPrincess Mon 25-Mar-19 08:44:53

I hate the memories/timehop ones. It was shit the first time you posted it - why do it again?

MadamGrumpsalot Mon 25-Mar-19 08:50:53

Another one.. which actually sounds quite nasty of me, but what the hell its MN...

The "10 years ago we lost this amazing [woman/man/dog]" on an anniversary of someone's death. Now don't get me wrong i adored my dear Nan, but I don't feel any inclination to post that on Fb given no one on there even met her! In that case, I feel it's more about attention seeking as opposed to collective celebration of someone's life

pinkrocker Mon 25-Mar-19 08:54:05

Any of those "99% of people will fail" quizzes

MrsHappyBee Mon 25-Mar-19 08:54:45

All of the above. Also people posting so it seems as if they're rolling in cash when they haven't got a pot to Bailed a family member out last week, then at the weekend they were posting expressing interest in a fancy car for sale. I know it's just a throwaway post, but it really annoyed me.

drogon1 Mon 25-Mar-19 09:06:51

People who write the New Years Eve essay status, usually harping on about what a tough year it has been and listing shitty stories month by month and them how the New Year will be so much better for this, this and that reason... usually involves a holiday and tagging some friends who are getting married. Ugh, cringe.

Lifeonmars77 Mon 25-Mar-19 09:15:34

Anything ending in 'rant over'

'Share this leprechaun/angel/fairy/picture of wad of cash - good things will come your way in 24 hours'

Grief tourists - "Oh I can't believe he's gone" #heartbroken #sad posts when their cousin's friend's sister's step-dad dies. Someone they barely met in 10 years and never had a good word to say about when they were alive.

Just... eugh. Makes my teeth itch.

Lungelady Mon 25-Mar-19 09:21:51

Fur baby rainbow bridge posts.
Fly high with the angles.

Hiddenaspie1973 Mon 25-Mar-19 09:23:30

Do you think I'm beautiful? I know the friends who will reply....🙄🙄🙄

Nah, I think you're the epitome of that saying "you can put lipstick on a pig...." but fill your boots love, we know the 60 y.o random guys will be along to polish your ego shortly 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Jebuschristchocolatebar Mon 25-Mar-19 09:30:28

Happy birthday granny Brenda in heaven. Bet your having cake with the anglesgringrin

MistressDeeCee Mon 25-Mar-19 09:34:41

People that put up smug, twee sounding daily quotes telling you how to live and be. Such as leaving everything to karma, anger is negative never be angry, blah blah blah. As if their little world is oh so perfect they're never stressed, tired, anxious, etc. Main culprit on my list who does this also puts up relationship quotes re how to have the best relationship, your relationship isn't good unless you're doing this... & she's not even in a relationship. We're fine in real life but I've hidden her on FB I can't take the attention seeking I'm oh so wise nonsense

Halloumimuffin Mon 25-Mar-19 09:35:22

People who mark themselves safe from a natural disaster in Asia when they've never left Grimsby.
