Neighbours smoking cannabis

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of the smell of cannabis.
I stay in a flat and my neighbours downstairs smoke cannabis everyday. My flat absolutely stinks of it and opening the window makes the smell worse.
Yesterday I was called into my dds school and they could smell the cannabis of her. I explained it was my neighbours but they have still made a referral to social services.

We had the same issue, I just spoke to the building manager saying I don't care what they get up to in their home but please stop stinking the rest of the building out. It worked.

YOU could call SS and ask their advice on what to do as it is affecting your quality of life.

But the authorities will not do any thing about recreational drug use. So long as they aren't dealing or growing, they wont get raided.

Far be it from me to suggest the obvious course of action - do you speak to them, are you on good terms ? Tell them! ask them to sit up the far end of the garden and indulge. Most people, if asked, tend to comply.

Let social services sort it out. They may contact the police or the landlord. Meanwhile can you use vandals, there are ones that eliminate smoke smells.

I have spoken to them a few times about it and they have apologised but they did say they can smoke what they want in their own house.
Think will just need to try more candles.

try incense, a really strong one should help cover it.

How much are they smoking if it's clinging to your kids clothes!! I guess there are sprays you can use but it's not stopping the actual problem, there must be something you can get as I have been in people's houses that smoke it regularly and you can't smell it

Hmm are they definitely just smoking themselves and not growing it? Just because my friend and her partner smoke pretty regularly and I can never smell it when I go into their flat.

I suppose they could be growing it have never actually been past the front door of the flat.
I think they smoke it all day when they aren't working. They both work shifts doing 3 days on 3 days off so for three days every week the place stinks all day. Then the other days it's just at night.

They have made a referral to social services based on a smell? Are there any other reasons that may have happened? Lots of kids smell of cannabis, and cannabis use in itself isn't a reason for SS involvement

Same problem here though the couple downstairs have two kids, so there's the added concern over how this may be affecting them. In total four neighbours who are affected by the smell have contacted the LL, the council and the agency and we are told that there will be on the spot flat inspections and that the council will investigate.

You can't talk to or reason with some people. Downstairs are sadly lacking in empathy, utterly ignorant and really confrontational so that was our only option. More difficult when they are homeowners though.

@Dramatical no they said it was just because her clothes smelled strongly of an illegal substance. It was the school senco that informed me as dd has asd. She said that ss will be in contact with me to arrange a home visit.
I have spoken to the woman that stays below them and she says she spoke to them as well. I will contact the council on Monday and see if they can do anything.

Off course a child smelling of cannabis is reason to inform social services.
Cannabis is an illegal drug and if a child is smelling of it usually that would mean someone is smoking it around a child.
OP no advice on the cannabis smell apart from maybe strong candles and incense.

I'm not bothered by what people do in their own homes but if it's causing your daughter to smell of it then I'd tell the police.

Not alone it is not. Social services referrals come from school where they have concerns about the welfare of the child. A small of cannabis, despite not being nice, isn't a concern for welfare.

Indeed. Hundreds of thousands of children in the UK live in a house where cannabis is smoked. Smoking cannabis around a child is not a child protection issue.

Yes they do, because lots of people smoke it. Just like tobacco smokers they have no idea how bad/strong it is.

Log it. Report to 101. Keep logging and reporting. Unlikely to get much done with the police but it at least shows social services the cause of the cannabis problem.

I understand the logic. But the reality is SS will do nothing, unless of course there are other welfare issues, which in this case there are not.
