Annoying school mum sending crap on what's app class group

What do you do if you get a barrage of crap from other parents in your phone? I receive at least one forwarded message a day from an evangelical Christian mum. Sometimes directly to me and sometimes to the class group (which has about 45 parents). Usually useless fake news and daily mail sensationalist rubbish. I recently replied to her request for me to sign an antiLGBT petition and told her I disagreed. I explained my reasons about wanting to bring my child up in a tolerant society and therefore would not be signing the petition. It didn't make any difference - today she sent me a video clip of Katie Hopkins preaching her extremists views. I'm far more irate about it than I should be. I'm totally annoyed at her ignorance and her idiocy at promoting utter shit. She sends this crap to our 'What's App' class groups and other mums say they regularly get the same trivial shit directly from her too. Do I block the mum or is there another strategy? Our children are in the same class, after school clubs and go to parties together lots! Help me write a response!

Does it really need a response? What if you just don't respond at all?!

WorraLiberty Thu 21-Mar-19 19:57:06

Just block her. No need to respond.

Divgirl2 Thu 21-Mar-19 19:57:11

I'd just block her - she'll never listen. Be civil and friendly in person obviously, but block her on the app.

Jupiters Thu 21-Mar-19 19:58:01

Just block her!

IHeartMarmiteToast Thu 21-Mar-19 19:58:58

Can you just not say sorry but this group is for school related things only .... AND block her on your own phone?

Unfinishedkitchen Thu 21-Mar-19 19:59:47

She’s a Christian who follows Katie Price?!

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend Thu 21-Mar-19 20:00:13

I’d tell her the truth

X can you stop sending me X as I’m really not intreasted, you only text me without all the propaganda nonsense, if you continue to send me those messages il have no option but to block you.

Honestly is always best.

RagingWhoreBag Thu 21-Mar-19 20:00:30

I would just post something along the lines of “can we keep this group for school related posts only please” and everyone else will prob agree. If she carries on or sends them directly to you then just block her.

TheQueef Thu 21-Mar-19 20:02:05

Hopkins Unfinished not Price grin

SuchAToDo Thu 21-Mar-19 20:02:47

Block her, then she can't send you it individually...but I think of you block people.on whatsapp and you are both in the same group you will still see her group messages and get notifications for them..(only way to stop that is if the group admin removes her from the group)...

Last resort, start a new group, invite everyone, except her..

llangennith Thu 21-Mar-19 20:03:54

Ask whoever is Admin to tell her to keep the class group for the reason it was set up. If she doesn't, Admin can delete her posts
Alternatively you could set up a separate WhatsApp group and don't include her. If you are Admin on that you can vet all posts.

MojoMoon Thu 21-Mar-19 20:04:47

You could mute her if you didn't want to block her. So you wouldn't get notifications and can ignore her more easily.

NataliaOsipova Thu 21-Mar-19 20:14:46

There’s a mum in my group who keeps sending pro Leave propaganda around. Similar strategy probably applies - judge her inwardly, downgrade your estimate of her intelligence several notches and turn down all play dates for your kids!

SadOtter Thu 21-Mar-19 20:18:58

Have you actually asked her to stop? Just a simple 'please stop sending me this crap' some people just don't realise how annoying they are and are quite happy to stop once asked.

FullOfJellyBeans Thu 21-Mar-19 20:20:02

Like PP I would block her so she can't send crap to you individually then ask the admin to write a note on the group asking members to not post political messages and keep it to issues relevant to the class.

Naijamama Thu 21-Mar-19 20:20:33

You've tried asking her to stop politely. I think the options now are to ask for only relevant things to be posted into the group, or to block her.

MamaAffrika Thu 21-Mar-19 20:20:38

Natalia...That's my current strategy but beautifully phrased.

Springwalk Thu 21-Mar-19 20:25:33

That is what a delete button is for. Use it with wild abandon and stop responding.

Drum2018 Thu 21-Mar-19 20:27:49

If she is sending this shit on the class group then someone needs to moderate the group and take charge of it, deleting all texts that are irrelevant to the actual kids schooling. A message should be sent to say that only school related issues are to be discussed.
You could then block her from whatsapp yourself. No doubt any mundane shit she posts on the group text wont be of interest so you wont miss much by blocking her.

MamaAffrika Thu 21-Mar-19 20:28:45

Iheartmarmite... Her posts often link to education, children, school so tricky to tell her that the group is only for school related stuff. Some parents actually send useful non-school related stuff eg events in the local area.

MongerTruffle Thu 21-Mar-19 20:29:36

Use the mute option on WhatsApp.

Bibijayne Thu 21-Mar-19 20:30:31

You can mute and block on WhatsApp

MamaAffrika Thu 21-Mar-19 20:31:02

Springwalk...that only deletes it for me though right?

LimeKiwi Thu 21-Mar-19 20:50:05

I'd be blocking her too. That way you don't see her crap.
