AIBU?

Tesco no longer selling Apple Strudel......in favour of Vegan Ice cream

Not posted in AIBU before so please gentle.
I went to our local Tesco, Tesco extra so a large store and thought I’d get an apple strudel or Aunt Bessie’s sticky toffee pudding for pudding tonight as midweek treat and DS( 24) is also popping over.
Couldn’t find either so asked a member of staff - apparently they’ve stopped doing the Apple Srudels, ( and the berry ones ) and Sticky toffee pudding has been removed for the foreseeable as it’s now Spring and due to the increased demand for Vegan IceCream there’s no room to stock them and other winter desserts. Normally they have both all year round. Even worse there are apparently no plans to reintroduce the Apple Strudel 😥
AIBU to think it’s still comfort pudding weather, or should I’d be in my bikini in the garden eating a Vegan Magnum?

They stock what sells. It’s just good business sense. Time to learn to make strudel. Grin

I was looking for one in there today Sad I may have to see if Iceland still do them.

We usually have strudel for Easter when everyone comes for dinner, I have been looking forward to it as have been dieting so not had many puddings.

I don’t suppose it’s just for vegan ice cream. They are replacing heavy winter puddings with summer ones which will sell better in the warmer weather. Why blame vegans?

Yea vegan magnums are lovely. Sounds like a good plan

Strudel is super-easy to make: all you need is pre-made puff pastry, fruit, a bit of sugar and a bit of butter.

I occasionally make one to bring into work.

That's just one staff members opinion. Yes the stick has changed, but it's unlikely the decision was made in head office to swap Apple strudel for vegan ice cream.

All you need is fillo pastry, apples, butter and sugar with a bit of cinnamon if you like.

Easy, and no added nasties such as artificial flavourings and palm oil.

I’m not blaming Vegans his exact words were ‘ they were being replaced by newer summer ice cream ranges specifically the Vegan ranges’
I’m not knocking a Vegan Magnum - haven’t tried one yet !

It's March, yes it might have been a little warmer than usual but its certainly not entirely ice cream weather. I really hate when shops stock stuff out of season, like swimming costumes in February or coats in July. I bet when we get to August there will be no ice cream in the shop. Hmm

If you don't have the patience, time or inclination to make a strudel (not everyone enjoys baking) then try Iceland they had some lovely looking deserts when I was in last week. Grin

That's a shame. The apple strudel from Tescos was suitable for vegans, and was one of my favourite go to warm puddings.

Lidl has amazing Apple or berry & custard strudel and they are only about 85p each! Always have a couple in the freezer.

They obviously haven't stopped selling it in favour of vegan ice cream you either made it up completely because you don't like vegans or the random guy working in Tesco just said it off the top of his head (I doubt that the CEO of Tesco is working on the shop floor answering these questions). If both sold well at this time of year they'd sell both (I'm sure they have 50 other non vegan ice creams).

Tesco are a pain. They are always discontinuing things. You go to buy something and it's no longer stocked. I think Sainsbury's are much more consistent with what they stock .

If you think the Op is bullshitting why bother posting? Her response of what the employee said seems a reasonable answer which sounds like it was parroted from a briefing meeting, not something he's made up.

I'm also not sure why you think the OP hates vegans? She hasn't shown any sign of this only stating that she's not tried the ice cream yet, she might be a vegan for all we know.

Maybe try going back to bed and getting out on the other side instead of being so unnecessarily rude? Hmm

I could totally believe OP made it up at the expense of vegans. Sounds like an odd made up conversation. They obviously just stopped selling the strudel because people stopped buying it. Either way the guy stocking the shelves in Tesco won't be privvy to the decisions about what they stock and why.

Thanks for your lesson in polite conversation - I'm sure you're an expert! The conversation didn't sound at all realistic to me! Then OP back tracked and said "oh it's being replaces by ice cream not vegan ice cream". I didn't buy it. Obviously you did and it was very important to you!

lol because they can't stock vegan ice cream and strudel simultaneously?

The apple strudel from Tescos was suitable for vegans

While this is technically true, it does contain palm oil which lots of vegans (and non-vegans!) try to avoid because of the impact on the habitats of some endangered species.

Well they can, but have decided to change the freezer range. It’s not uncommon, in fact things get dropped and added to stores daily.

I don't see where the Op backtracked she said the employee informed her it had been replaced by ice cream due to the change in seasons specifically Vegan ice cream?

I didn't buy it. Obviously you did and it was very important to you!

Not that important but important enough to post a helpful comment regarding the OPs initial question. I pulled you up on your comment because instead of being helpful you basically calling her a liar and saying she is posting for attention and that she doesn't like Vegans.

None of what she posted was derogatory to Vegans but all of your post was rude towards the OP.

At the same time they have stopped selling my all time favourite ice cream which is Tesco Finest dark chocolate. It's made with real cream and chocolate and is divine.
