Or was this bloke in the cafe totally over reacting

I'm in a very dog friendly cafe with my well behaved dog. Who is on a lead and has spent 99% of the time under the table. She ventured out from under the table and sat between our table and the next table sniffing the floor.

Bloke at the next table jumped up, got right in my face and told me in a very aggressive manner to stop my dog sniffing round his table. I don't think she was but said sorry and pulled her under my table. He carried on and said it was the second time (it wasn't, though we had to walk past them at one point so he may have meant that).

He carried on ranting at which point I told him there was no need to be so aggressive and that he could have mentioned it in a far nicer manner. Which shut him up.

Photo so you can see the space dog had ventured into. Dog wasn't touching the woman's purple coat. Small spaniel who was sat in the middle of that space.

He sounds like a knob but I can't really judge until I've seen a photo of your dog Grin

It sounds like he's not totally happy with being in a dog-friendly cafe in which he should fuck off to somewhere not dog-friendly.

The best thing about dog-friendly cafes is random dogs wandering over to check you out Grin

If dogs are allowed in the cafe YANBU. Personally I would prefer to have no animals in public spaces like cafes and restaurants but I wouldn't make a fuss and certainly wouldn't behave like this agressive bully.

He shouldn’t be in a dog friendly cafe if he has a problem with it. Even if the dog sniffed around his table it’s hardly a crime and if it did bug him he should’ve told you in a calm manner

Sounds like he has a problem with dogs. Mark him down as one of these total tossers you meet in life and move on.

Yep agree with DirtyDenis need a photo of the dog Grin

And also yeah from what you said he was totally over-reacting in a dog friendly space.

In fact i dont think she was even in the middle of the space. I have the lead lopped round my left hand which is furthest away from them and its a short lead. She wasn't in anyone's way as its not a "walkthrough" bit. Someone behind me had just 2 minutes earlier commented how well behaved she was. She's looking worried under the table now.

Sounds like a dickhead.

Presumably you're in a place that dogs are welcome.

I don't know.. personally I can't relax if a dog is close to me like that.

He shouldn't have been rude and aggressive, but if you are going to bring your dog into a cafe, you need to keep it away from other people and their things. I would totally understand someone getting annoyed and saying something (not doing it aggressively though!) if my children were bounding around their table and I wasn't keeping an eye on them. So I think the same applies to dogs, dog friendly cafe or not.

Dogs are very welcome. They've gone now and photo shows the closest she could reach on her short lead. So probably not even in the middle.

I accept some people don't like dogs and if he'd said so I'd have apologised and felt bad. He was just so horrible.

Having seen the picture, I can confirm YANBU... she's adorable and so stylish.

Ignore him, he's a tosser.

Aww, she does look worried! She's lovely and he's a prat.

I accept some people don't like dogs

I am very suspicious of these kinds of people Grin
Either way, they shouldn't be at a dog-friendly cafe where there's a high chance of, you know, dogs.

I'd never let her go up to people and their things. She was a foot away. As I'm by myself she can fit under the table. But there's other full tables with dogs by the side of the table . Plus a couple of labs who won't fit under and nobody is ranting at their owners. It's so dog friendly this place it has dog towels and biscuits.

I don't like places that end up being full of dogs but if I'm in somewhere that describes itself as dog-friendly then I going to come across dogs, be hit by the odd tail and possibly sniffed - its no big deal. I get annoyed by dogs begging, dogs sat on chairs and dogs that are friendly but not watched by their owners though. He was being a dick.

Aww she’s so cute in her jacket. He’s obviously a dick and doesn’t deserve for her to sit next to him.
He should go to a place where dogs aren’t allowed if he’s not comfortable with it.

Not everyone likes dogs in cafes. Not saying he is right though.

My dh dislikes dogs and one of my kids is scared of them.

I personally love dogs.

@NicoAndTheNiners I dunno your dog looks pretty aggressive so perhaps he felt a tad nervous with them getting so close Wink

Idiot. Your dog is cute! Love the coat.

I was once in a pub which actually had a sign outside saying it was the New Forest's most dog-friendly pub. My dog is minding his own business under the table. Still a couple at the next table were doing theatrical flinching and tutting and glaring.

Simple. Bloke's a tosser. Plenty of cafes for him to choose from where pets aren't allowed - why choose this one? I am a massive dog-lover though!!
