AIBU?

Letterbox menace solved!

Delivering leaflets can present occasional hazards. The stiff bristles in letterboxes can scrape the skin off your knuckles, your fingers could become prey to dogs or the leaflet just crumbles on insertion, to name a few. I have tried the scissor tongs shown here LINK EDITED OUT BY MNHQ and it seems ideal. It is thin enough and long enough to go through every letterbox I have tried, and, as the photo shows, is an ideal size for leaflets. Usually you can simply slot in the leaflet, insert in the letterbox, open slightly and withdraw. The letterbox brushes tend to stop the leaflet being pulled back out. Alternatively once fully inserted rotate 90 degrees, open slightly so the leaflet falls out, close, rotate back and withdraw.
If you try this make sure it is a thin scissor tongs so it cannot get stuck
in or damage a letterbox.
As a bonus it also speeds up delivery.

This is a very interesting if slightly niche post.

Delivering leaflets can present occasional hazards - so true.
So unlikely a post opening sentence.

I applaud you OP.

I have been bitten by a dog when doing a paper round incidentally.

What on Earth are the leaflets made of if they are crumbling? Although I’d quite like all my junk mail to be made of cake; I’d definitely appreciate that more than the badly printed cheap glossy crap I get at the moment.

Is this an ad??

people like that though - they don't really want junk mail and don't read it

I also like the idea of it made of cake though

What an odd first post. Is it spam?

I had the last of the fruit cake.

I wish people would deliver our leaflets directly into the paper recycling bin. It's literally right next to the door and it would save us the extra step of moving the leaflets into it.

@tiny that's the real beauty of this - I don't think it is an ad.

The OP does not mention the cost (an extremely reasonable £3.99) and talks of scissor tongs in general terms thereby promoting the genius method and not the specific product.

I love it.

I'm not going to click on the link, but of course it's an ad.

I want you and your scissor tongues out of my letterbox, OP. I've had enough now.

But @dramaalpaca the product description is so different to the OPs style (but equally hilarious in a different way). If this is an ad I will be very sad. But... I bring you back to my previous point - promotion of the method rather than the product.

Please be real.

Please come back OP and show you are real.

I'm not interested in leaflets. It's just another bit of rubbish coming through the letter box.

Fold leaflet in half and push it through with a ruler. Wink

(know someone who had the end bitten off her finger when posting the paperwork through for a parcel)

How does a leaflet "crumble on insertion"?

I'm in Germany.

We have a post box at the end of the drive-no dogs, no bristles!

Nah, OP. A muffin fork is far superior for posting leaflets. As a bonus it also sorts out any lurking dogs that were planning to bite your fingers off.

What a good idea. I'm constantly having to post leaflets about missing cats/who's feeding the feral cat in these gardens/have you seen this injured cat? type leaflets. Letterboxes drive me nuts.

I am delighted that those deliverying leaflets have great difficulty in putting them through my letter box. I don’t want them - I have never ever taken up any offers from them. They are a scurge on the environment

What is your AIBU?

I'm not going to click on the link as I have no need for leaflet delivery aids and I can help feeling this is a not very well disguised advert

Crumple - I think the OP meant crumple. Which is a very odd word once you start saying it more than once. Crumple, crumple, crumple.
