I have almost exactly the same name as my colleague (identical first names and we're both Mc's).

She got married and changed her name, which was immensely helpful all round as we have almost the exact same role.

I met this bloke and it turns out his name is exactly the same as her husbands' Shock

That's restraining order stuff, isn't it?!

They're from quite different places so I don't think they're related.

I really do feel uncomfortable about it! It's almost enough to make me finish it Confused

That’s such a strange coincidence

My friend’s daughter married someone with the same surname so didn’t have to change her name, now her son has just become engaged to a young woman with the same forename as her and the same surname!

You’re not being serious about finishing with him over a name are you?! It’s only a work colleague - who cares!

Is it same first and surname? Either way it's hilarious and you should marry him and change your name

Definately don't end it! Just have a laugh with it. "omg you will never guess...... Are you sure we aren't the same person....... So this may sound crazy but...." you won't work with her forever and you could be letting go of your lobster!

I swapped names with a colleague - imagine my maiden name was Clare Jones and hers was Clare Brown. I married John Brown and she married John Jones. We have also swapped job roles as she steeped back and went part time and I took on more responsibility in a role which used to be hers. So we became each other. We’re still confused. Our work post is like a Rubik’s Cube of puzzlement to sort out.

We have a lot of names repeated in my extended family. 3 aunties with the same name, 2 uncles with the same name (so 2 sets are both Auntie A and Uncle B) and then a cousin with the same name as an uncle. It gets confusing when we are all together

I have cousins, Mike and Sue, who are brother and sister, children of my Uncle Mike.

Mike met and married a girl named Sue.

Sue had built up a professional career. Later in life, she met a man named Mike and married him. She retained her maiden name due to being known in her industry. When they had a child (unexpected due to being a tad older), Mike took Sue’s last name do their family unit would all have the same last name. As a compromise about changing his last name, Mike asked to ensure their son was name Mike.

So now we have four named Mike in the family and two Sue all with the same last name.

Weird stuff happens

My uncles both married women with the same name as my mum. One married two in fact.

My MIL also has the same name. At family gatherings just shout the name, someone will answer you.

By conincidence I was talking to a friend today and her brother, who has a not very common name, had a girlfriend of 3 years who left him for a man with exactly the same name ! she ended up marrying him too. My friend who had the surname 'Smith' was with a guy who had exactly the same name as her dad.

My neighbour left his first wife Michelle for another woman, also called Michelle. He had children to Michelle number 1. He married Michelle number 2, so Michelle number 1 and Michelle number 2 both have the exact same name. All their family and friends call them Michelle number 1 and Michelle. Umber 2, Except the OW (2) insists she is called number 1 as she is his current wife and most important in his life.

It’s very complicated 😀

Hopefully you're a feminist and therefore wouldn't consider changing your name on marriage anyway?

I know somebody, let's call him Bob, who dated Joan1 at High school. They split up and he went on to marry Joan2.

He cheated on Joan2 with Joan1, got divorced and then proceeded to meet and marry Joan3.

Years later, divorced again, he bumps into Joan1 and they are now married.

At least he'll never get confused with names Grin

Do you ever meet outside work? Do your colleagues even need to be aware of other than his first name, in case he were to phone you at work?

Sounds only a source of amusement to you and need not be anyone else's business.
