Am I the only one surprised to hear that when it was put that there could be a second referendum the shouts of no overwhelmingly outweighed the yes’?

Well, yes, but I think the nature of our democratic decision means we have to honour the outcome of elections. Otherwise surely the whole system would collapse?

And we don’t have direct democracy. We elect representatives to act in our best interests. No matter how much constituents say they want to be shot in the face, MPs aren’t duty bound to vote for it.

I think that the public would still expect the result to be honoured. It's a strange situation as referendums are so unusual, but I think that the fact it isn't legally binding/advisory-only isn't how many will interpret it; hence the risk to our parliamentary system I guess.

Democracy is voting every few year to check you are still happy. Leavers are worried that the majority of this country now want to remain. They are using typical bully boy tactics to get what they want.

To be fair, even Nigel Farage can’t be arsed to show up for his own march, he’s just doing the beginning and the end, apparently. Marching is clearly hard work.

I think they are probably afraid the whole social media dark web nastiness will start spiralling again and people will vote to leave again and then we really would be well and truly f**ked. That’s the only reason why I don’t want a second referendum. Give me a ‘rule-taking Norway-suck it up’ option over that any day.

Tbh, once we are back to our normal lives and have forgotten this period of temporary insanity, I doubt whether many people would even notice that we have less ‘control’ over our laws thanks to the Norway option than we used to. It’s not as if our MEPs actually voted very often. We can still hang around in the corridor.

I don't understand why people say it's undemocratic to have another referendum nearly 3 years after the result.

We normally have a general election every 4-5 years, so obviously we don't work on the basis that it's undemocratic to check that everyone in the country still wants the same people in power as they did last time we asked. And Theresa May called a general election just two years after we'd had one. And if she'd lost the confidence vote a few months ago there'd have been another general election taking place another 2 years after the last one. I'm sorry, but this REFERENDUM MUST NEVER BE REVISITED stuff is just rubbish.

It wasn't an election. If it had been, given the amount of dirty dealing by Leave, the result would have been declared invalid and charges would be pending. I was unaware that democracy is maintained by one side threatening civil unrest if their demands aren't met. I think that goes by. a very different name.

I think some are happy enough to go out with a no deal, I have seen plenty of people thinking that it’s a great idea.
