Ridiculous and trivial ...

DS (3 1/2) had a tantrum in the bath because a bottle of shower gel was shower gel and not bubble bath.

He kept asking me what it was and every time I responded "shower gel" he said "no, it's bubble bath". He then told me I was making him cross and wanted his dad. DH comes in and he asked what it was and DH said "ok then its bubble bath".

What would you do?

AIBU to insist it is what it is? Or is DH BU for giving into a tantrum?

At bathtime I would’ve said it was bubble bath. He clearly wanted a win and that was an easy win to let him have but I have no idea if that’s the right thing to do!

You really need to choose your battles and this isn't one. This isn't giving into your DC, this is agreeing to disagree over that something that doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.

I normally do pick my battles with the kids quite well but FFS... it's shower gel. It is not bubble bath... that's a bare faced lie.

I wasn't actually arguing back and forth. I said shower gel but he wanted me to say bubble bath. I said he could call it bubble bath but I'll call it shower gel. That's when he told me I was making him angry.

To a three year old it is still a liquid that will create bubbles when out in the bath, even if not as bubbly as proper bubble bath.

I usually only stand firm on things that matter in reality e.g. you have to wear your shoes outside.

In your situation (which I’m in many, many times a day, they are 3 and 4) I would say “oh yes, it IS bubble bath! Gosh aren’t you clever to notice that?”

BECAUSE I AM A BROKEN WOMAN and I don’t care as long as they have their bloody bath and get into bed.
