AIBU?

To wear sportswear when I'm not going to the gym?

As much as I kid myself that I'd be a total gym bunny if it wasn't for having small DC hanging off me all day, realistically I haven't been to the gym in years and won't be able to go til my youngest gets his funded hours in another two years. However, I find myself liking sportswear. Is it totally unreasonable to wear it if you aren't going to be working out? I do have a fairly active lifestyle in that we're usually walking the dog/going to soft play/going swimming/going to the park...

I wear it all the time! My job is physical and requires me to be able to move with ease. Sportswear is perfect for it. I used to feel like a bit of a fraud but so many people are doing the same I think it’s just normal now.

Wear what you like!

Except onesie plus dressing gown to breakfast in hotels, that's bad.

@HelenLaBloodyAnnoyed go for it! I work out at home (Pilates/yoga/body weight exercises) and wear gym wear.
Would doing some exercise at home be feasible for you? My routine only takes 20-30mins depending on what I do and it's really toned me up (size 8 at 5'8) and makes me feel strong and motivated during the day.
(I'm happy to post it on here if it helps you?)

I usually wear it also to walk to dog on long hikes, but plenty of people wear it out and about too. Just make sure you have some gym leggings that aren't see through!! (Or wear a long top)

It's all the rage where I live - activewear is like a uniform for a lot of girls.

YABU unless you live in the North East.

Then it’s just your crime clothes.

@Thisisnotadrill do you mean trackies? I think op was referring to nice gym wear (eg leggings, sports bra, top) as opposed to sweatsuits.

Yes sleepalldays - like Superdry or Nike leggings and tees

@HelenLaBloodyAnnoyed wish I could afford Nike😩 it's forever 21 or H&M for me! But they still have really good leggings that make you look awesome!

“Athleisure” clothing dominates here, although I do live in an utterly fitness-obsessed US town.

Nothing wrong with this

Not unreasonable at all!
The trick is when taking kids to school, you put on some Lycra, scrape hair back (no makeup needed)
“Yeah, I’m straight off to the gym” 😁
Get home, cup of tea with the paper.
We’ve all done it

Ps this doesn’t work with a shitty baggy tracksuit, I’m talking Sweaty Betty

I love wearing gym clothes as normal clothes. Comfy and an excuse not to do your hair & makeup perfect 😂

I think I must have been living in a bubble as the penny only dropped for me recently that people are wearing gym clothes but not going to the gym in them. I guess I'm a slow learner. Blush

I only wear my gym clothes to and from the gym, although quite often I will run errands on my way home so I am often found in gym gear (leggings, vest, sweatshirt) in the local bakery, supermarket etc.

A few weekends ago I stopped by Broadway Market on my way home from my usual Sat morning HIIT class and realised that at least half of the women there were wearing gym clothes. Then I noticed that none of them had actual bags (rucksacks etc) so they probably hadn't been (or were going) to the actual gym. And the penny dropped for me. I am still slightly baffled by it. I guess I'm old school. Blush If you see me in gym kit, its because I've been exercising (or I'm about to). But my approach seems to be unusual these days!

I think people have different thoughts on this. As for me personally, I don’t see any problem with wearing sportswear when you’re going to the mall or even just walking your dog in the park. As for me, I love wearing my vegan gym clothes that I bought from this shop whenever I go out to get groceries or even meet up with friends. These clothes are very much comfortable to wear compared to jeans. So unless there isn’t a dress code to where you’re going, then don’t think twice on wearing sportswear, if that’s what you like.
