Facebook group for small village and it seems it's 80% used for moaning!

The latest being about someone in the local chemist, actually naming the assistant and saying she's rude etc. These are not teenagers, it's grown adults. Im sure that must be classed as bullying?

It's moan, moan, man...

Dogs barking, cars driving to fast, fireworks.

It's always so aggressive, it's never whoever lives behind 1 Acacia Avenue could you stop the dog barking early morning, it's disturbing me.

It's "to the inconsiderate person behind 1 Acacia, I'm sick of you. Sick of your dog. If I knew who you were I'd come round.

Anyway, that's my moaning done.

It's actually a lovely area with nice people.

Do others find these "community" Facebook pages negative?

They are run by a legacy from the Third Reich. I got kicked off one for point out that you cant go round filming people willy nilly and accusing them of being paedophiles with absolutely no evidence - even then your evidence should go to the police. Im unreasonable. Apparently.

Frankly Im surprised they dont get sued.

Mine makes me laugh on a daily basis.

There's always a post about a road closure that's been in place and while and we knew it would be

A weekly go about the bins

My neighbour uploads photos to it from his days out with family etc. Think he has it confused with his personal page.

It's hilarious and it's sometimes fun to fuel the fire.

I find the local thugs, whose kids are the junior thugs, are often on it pretending to be reasonably minded community spirited people one minute, and threatening to pull a knife on someone the next. It's very bizarre.

I totally get where you are coming from! Our village has 2.
One run by myself and 2 others who are part of a formal group, we put together a newsletter, advertise and put on events, some of which not everyone agrees with. We are trying to raise money for a community led pub - which again not everyone agrees with.
The second is run by an individual, there is no moderate and there are the same few people posting really horrible comments. I kid you not, one woman posted about 20 pictures of dead mutilated sheep in retaliation for people asking why the public footpath had been closed.
It has got to the stage where as admin on the community led page we turned off comments so we could ensure anything posted was constructive, not positive, but simply constructive and not personal attacks.....yet this led one person to accuse us of censorship on the other page because it took me 2 hours to publish it.

There really is no advice because those who don't like a page being moderated will simply set up their own and allow this bullying to occur. The worst part is, if someone from outside was looking to move to the village they probably wouldn't on account of the negative picture it paints.

isabellerossignol · 11/03/2019 13:32

Sorry, the bit about the kids is that they'll be threatening to knife someone for suggesting that perhaps their junior thugs should be kept under control. Yet ten minutes earlier it will have been 'I hate bullies, hun'

Ours is hilarious.

This weekend has all been about dog shit and parking with the odd "is the takeaway open inthis wind?".

It's the highlight of my day to read what drivel is written Grin

@AmIAWeed you deserve a medal 🏅 for doing that role, I'd never even consider it.

Agreed, if anyone read ours they'd run a mile, but the picture it paints is simply not true!

Ours isn't like that at all. the last 5 posts are:

  1. Found keys, get in touch with poster if they're yours
  2. Warning about delays due to roadwoks
  3. Looking for a hairdresser recommendation
  4. Someone looking for a live-in carer for an elderly relative
  5. Notice from a local vet about recycling pet food.

All very mundane and boring!

They’re the same up and down the land. Whinging about noise, litter, dog poo, parking. I’m not convinced there’s much use to them tbh as the people behaving anti socially aren’t likely to be hanging around on a community page anyway!

I am very unpopular on one issue as I firmly believe that nobody owns the road outside of their house and therefore anyone who’s paid their road tax is entitled to park, safely, wherever they like 😂 I can’t get on board with the whole ‘OMG can’t believe this guy has parked outside MY HOUSE’ cos I can’t resist pointing out that unless they own that piece of land he’s doing nothing wrong and the roads are for everyone to use.

I wouldn’t say naming a rude assistant is bullying but it’s poor form not to raise it with the shop directly and give them a chance to address it.

Anyway, be the change you wish to see OP. Post nice stuff, thank people for things, compliment beautiful gardens you’ve noticed, offer yourself up to be trick or treated, share funny things etc. Only way to counteract the deluge of moans.

@howwillwedeal I'd much rather a gin than a medal ;)
I think I was more pushed into the role than volunteered, I stupidly suggested ways the group could get more buy in/interest etc and hey presto suddenly i'm admin!!
My biggest issue is I have to reply in an appropriate manner.
Example
1 We wrote objections as a group to prevent the last remaining asset (pub) being turned into houses
2 Those that disagree with us, and are vocal and not nice, have said they should start a petition to get the pub converted to houses....I really want to post one comment asking if anyone in the last 6 months actually bothered!

Or when we do get a victory, being able to post 'suck on that loser' as opposed to 'we are pleased to announce...'
This is why I drink....and why I NEED a community pub ;)

I live on a new build estate and we've got a page set up. It just highlights how many busy bodies there are on the estate.

Someone has suggested we write down the make, model and registration of any car we don't recognise in case it helps the police with any potential future investigation...they're still building houses so imagine the list you would have to keep if you noted down everyone that drove through the estate.

My favourite Hmm are when someone posts something along the lines of "Just to warn you, someone has just knocked on my door at 1pm on a Saturday afternoon asking me if I want to buy an alarm system...this was at 123 Nosey Avenue, be careful guys!" and then goes on to comment about how they are home alone with a broken leg and can't protect themselves so get worried when someone comes to the door.

Our last five were:

  1. Moaning about someone having a go at her for using a handsfree in a car

  1. A post about someone picking up someone elses food bill when their card was declined

  1. A joke about entitled youth

  1. A post about the youth of town chucking things at passers by

  1. A complaing about a driving off driver after a car park prang

All about par for the course. Sometimes I wade in and wind them up - its like pulling wings off a fly its so easy to get them frothing.

Mine has

Thank you from a resident for flowers following her incapacitation

Calor gas hiking prices again for the whole village

Egg vending machine has double yolkers. This one has pleased all.

Advert for local sale

Handyman recommendation

Its usually positive but we do still get our share of parking and poo complaints.

Old photos, lost dog, more old photos, milk delivery service (only £4 for 2pts!) Moaning about the bin collections, Sunday school...

No politics, no moaning about people.

We used to have a school page but it got shut down.

We had a man complaining that the foil tops on the bottles of milk in our local shop were too hard to get off....

Bottles are not unusual, just your bog standard type in every supermarket.

All missing dogs and cats on ours. Maybe they're the ones who are shitting everywhere? 😂 I love it but it scares the bejesus out of me as everyone seems to be having someone try their door in the middle of the night.
