Invited two friends round for dinner tonight. Due to another commitment it was always going to be late (arrive half 8 eat at 9) explicitly said this when I was arranging it as I know it’s very late for some people.
Assured me it’s fine.

Got food in inc some naice (fucking expensive) ingredients. Get everything cooking, text at 8:45 asking if they are on their way.
Reply “oh no we were too hungry to had to make our own dinner, we can come round in an hour or two after we’re done.”
I was a bit hacked off so told them not to bother blush
Aibu to be pretty seething blush

Given they knew that was really rude, yes. I'd have done the same as you.

Wow, YANBU, they were very rude. They could have had a 6pm snack to keep them going

Ineedanewmil Sat 09-Mar-19 20:59:44

I would be annoyed. Very rude of them

Bobbycat121 Sat 09-Mar-19 21:01:12

You’ve done the right thing flowers

AnneLovesGilbert Sat 09-Mar-19 21:03:38

That’s shocking. Are they usually very thoughtless?

Have you eaten your lovely food? At least you can enjoy leftovers but sorry you’ve been let down.

I never invite anyone round except for family. Other people always let you down. I've learnt that by experience. confused

GiveMeAllTheGin8 Sat 09-Mar-19 21:05:30

Yanbu would they usually be so rude?

BlueMerchant Sat 09-Mar-19 21:05:38

They should have let you know by lunchtime at the latest.

BellaVita Sat 09-Mar-19 21:06:23

I was halfway through cooking so couldn’t really abandon anything without binning it. Guess it will be DPs drunk scran when he gets in from a wedding later... grrrr

JRMisOdious Sat 09-Mar-19 21:06:38

Incredibly rude. That would be that for me.

DameXanaduBramble Sat 09-Mar-19 21:06:39

Unbelievably rude of them.

ADHMeeee Sat 09-Mar-19 21:09:40

Very rude. They knew they were coming and that you were cooking late and should have arranged their daytime meals to acommodate that.

LuckyLou7 Sat 09-Mar-19 21:10:29

Bloody hell, that's incredibly rude. I would never do that - maybe have a piece of toast or something early evening to stave off the hunger pangs - although 9pm is hardly the middle of the night. Enjoy your food, plate up some for DH and freeze the rest or eat tomorrow. Sod the guests.

GorkyMcPorky Sat 09-Mar-19 21:12:01

Scran. Love that word - thought it was local dialect.

FetchezLaVache Sat 09-Mar-19 21:12:36

YANBU, they were incredibly rude.

Stayawayfromitsmouth Sat 09-Mar-19 21:12:38

Very rude!

GreatDuckCookery6211 Sat 09-Mar-19 21:12:38

Why didn’t they tell josh it was too late to eat?! Bloody hell I would be mad too.

SnuggyBuggy Sat 09-Mar-19 21:12:54

YANBU, I usually eat at 6 but it's not like you'd die of starvation waiting for a late dinner. Very rude.

SleepingStandingUp Sat 09-Mar-19 21:13:11

So rude. They a) should have eaten earlier andso they'd be hungry for 9, b) contacted you and cancelled / told you they were eating and replan.

GreatDuckCookery6211 Sat 09-Mar-19 21:13:56

Josh!? Don’t know who he is grin was meant to be you!

DontBuyANewMumCashmere Sat 09-Mar-19 21:15:44

Outrageous - and I would be making sure they knew I was pissed off.
Were they apologetic or embarrassed at all?!

MrsEricBana Sat 09-Mar-19 21:17:06

Very very rude. You did the right thing. Don't invite them again. (We have friends who come for so dinner and vice versa. When they come here she immediately identifies something I've not got and sends her dh home to get it. Grrr. People can be BLOODY rude).
