To feel rage at husband saying ‘that’s a lot of calories’

Husband asked if I wanted lunch picking up. Yes thanks, I’ll have a sandwich and some crisps and a drink!

He replies with - that’s a lot of calories, sure you just don’t want the sandwich and drink?

Even if I wasn’t 37 weeks pregnant, this would irritate me! As it stands, I am incandescent with fiery pregnancy rage!!! Especially as I have been worried that my weight gain hasn’t been so great (had scans for small bump, 9kg so far), even if I was a huge pregnant whale, I don’t think this would even be appropriate. He’s all sorry now of course.

Grrrrrr so ragey! So ragey I joined mumsnet to post this. This rant helps. Can you help too? Rage! Rage! angry

TyrionsNextWife Fri 08-Mar-19 12:22:06

If someone said that to me, they’d going in my sandwich and I’m not even pregnant!

Rage away, and point out to him that until he’s grown a human being he has no place commenting on your calorie intake angry

Shoxfordian Fri 08-Mar-19 12:22:58

Yeah that's annoying
Has he always thought it was fine to comment on what you eat?

Desmondo2016 Fri 08-Mar-19 12:24:03

Oh my goodness what was he thinking? It's a sandwich and a bag if crisps ffs. Rage away

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy Fri 08-Mar-19 12:25:21

Does he always comment on what you eat? How rude.

Sandwich, crisps and a drink is a standard lunchtime deal!

You've given me the rage now too. Or maybe I'm just hangry. grin

Xenia Fri 08-Mar-19 12:25:31

It's not a helpful thing to say.

You might be better off with a huge piece of fish and veg however and no bread and no crisps and no drink other than tap water.

Itwouldtakemuchmorethanthis Fri 08-Mar-19 12:25:39

Is it a lot of calories? confused sounds utterly unremarkable. What’s he having for lunch?

ChariotsofFish Fri 08-Mar-19 12:26:07

Yes, that is extremely annoying.

Bluntness100 Fri 08-Mar-19 12:26:37

God, that's hugely judgemental, has he always been controlling with your food intake?

Itwouldtakemuchmorethanthis Fri 08-Mar-19 12:26:43

Would she @Xenia? Why?

Greywalls12 Fri 08-Mar-19 12:27:06

What an asshole. If DH said that to me, I'd eat him aswell

CountessVonBoobs Fri 08-Mar-19 12:27:33

Um.... what?

Did you mistake this for a diet thread?

EyesAreNeverClosing Fri 08-Mar-19 12:28:19

Just for that I would tell him to get me a big bar of calorie-laden chocolate as well.wink

WeShouldOpenABar Fri 08-Mar-19 12:30:43

Why would she be better with fish and veg ffs she's pregnant she needs calories and even if she wasn't she wasn't asking for diet advice

Cocobean30 Fri 08-Mar-19 12:31:03

OP I suggest you use that line on him every time he wants to drink or eat anything!!

FriarTuck Fri 08-Mar-19 12:32:20

Shop-bought sarnies have a lot of calories in them though.

ShardsOfIce Fri 08-Mar-19 12:32:55

I do admit, it’s a junky kind of meal, this is true! I don’t want fish and vegetables! Just gimme the crisps and sandwich.

He’s phoned now to check which crisps and sandwich I want, sounds quite sheepish.

Hmm yes he have form for commenting on what I eat when it comes to chocolate/crisps/junk. He thinks it is helpful. I admit in the past, it can be, like when I myself claim I am eating unhealthily and I’ll say, ahh yeah best not eat that, you’re right. I’m confident with my figure but I wonder if I wasn’t.

Thank you for the replies! I feel better now!

madcatladyforever Fri 08-Mar-19 12:33:01

I'd have said, all that salt can't be doing you or the baby much good because it probably isn't but calories!!! NO.

justasking111 Fri 08-Mar-19 12:35:10

I lost weight at this stage, my tummy was squashed up so snacky type food was the only thing I fancied. Was always lighter post pregnancy than pre. Is he panicking that you will be big afterwards?

EyesAreNeverClosing Fri 08-Mar-19 12:35:11

All of them...tell him you want all of the crisps and all of the sandwiches!

Itwouldtakemuchmorethanthis Fri 08-Mar-19 12:35:23

OPs measuring small for dates. She really doesn’t need to be restricting calories or carbs.

zainabiden Fri 08-Mar-19 12:36:38

I suggest you whenever he wants to eat anything, you should repeat this line on him

ShardsOfIce Fri 08-Mar-19 12:37:16

And I agree with the person who says ‘she’s not asking for dietary advice’, I think that’s what especially annoyed me!

I should have asked for chocolate too. 1kg bar grin

BigChocFrenzy Fri 08-Mar-19 12:37:52

He's not "helpful"

he's judgemental, rude and needs to keep his nosey beak out of what you eat or drink.
Especially when you are carrying his child and need chocolate, not calorie-counting

No pregnant woman should be thinking of a diet, unless her doctor recommends it for medical reaons, e.g. GD.

FrozenMargarita17 Fri 08-Mar-19 12:38:59

Hope he brings you a chocolate bar, OP smile)
