To be totally confused by these blood results?

Had blood tests run recently for symptoms of fatigue, raised glands, sore throat and sore knees.
I haven't a clue what these all mean. I'm happy to hear they're all within the normal range but would like to know if theres anything to watch here / anything I can try to do to feel better as I'm so fed up feeling so poorly.
Anyone an expert?

Normal,no action means just that,so I guess you shouldn't worry too much. I had one of those which was far from 'normal,no action'. I was rung up and told to report to the hospital ward ASAP, to see what was going on with my liver

Nothing to do with alcohol but result of a salmonella infection going rogue and affecting all my liver results. I felt terrible too. Recovered gradually.

Thanks - I can see that and am glad to know that. I'm feeling so ill I'm trying to work out a full picture of what's going on. The FBC is high - RBC is high and Haematocrit is just within normal range but high end. I'm worried about that because when I searched online (i know- i know- i know!!!) that picture was indicative of polycythemia (blood cancer) and the symptoms are very similar to mine. I've scared myself - know I shouldn't have looked but due to feeling so ill I am desperate for answers and probably a bit stupid. Now I'm scared too!

First thing I thought was RBC was high and hemocrit also on high side of normal.
Not sure of what symptoms this would show but noted it because mines always below the minimum 🙈

Hi Whatcould have you got a follow up appointment with your gp?

From my quick google (I'm def not an expert) it's impossible to tell from just one test what the cause of the high RBC is - it could be something as simple as dehydration, something like smoking or sleep apnea or something more serious. Really you need to go back to your gp who can consider your full clinical history and run more tests as required.

Woolduvet I’m sorry to hear that diagnosis. I’ve absolutely terrified myself and feel sick. I’ve called the drs and he’s calling me back tomorrow to discuss but I’m sat here freaking out. I’m such an idiot- there might be nothing to worry about but I’ve got anxiety and feel sick with it

Th column on the right shows the normal range of results for each test. If your result, in the first column, lies within this range, then it is normal.

I'm surprised they didnt ask you to make an app to discuss results, i had blood test 2 weeks ago, got a letter to make a none urgent app to discuss the results.

My gp isn’t in today the results came in and I only knew cos I went and asked if they were naval and for a print out

I’ve had a higher RBC than that for 12 years. Nothing wrong with me. I think they usually say a pattern indicates more serious things rather than just one result in isolation. Do follow up with go though.

Spoke to my gp who was very reassuring.
We are going to repeat the test next week and go from there but he’s not overly concerned. I should have asked about TSH levels. Obviously it’s good they’re in the normal range but they’re relatively low and my symptoms are similar to thyroid issues so it might be worth repeating that bit too

Thanks woolduvet. He said its a picture over time that would cause concern and that it is possible for things to skew the test hence repeating it. Hope you're getting good support and thank you for your advice - really helped me have the confidence to push for a repeated test.

It does suck, mine was picked up cos it was super high.

My full blood count came back normal, but I had terrible fatigue, constantly ill and pain everywhere.

I asked for a vitamin D test and it came back very low. Worth pursuing?

The first thing that popped into my head when you listed your symptoms was Lymes disease. Very hard to diagnose apparently. It was on a radio show here yesterday and I was reading about it today so the symptoms fresh in my mind.

A lot of the people speaking on the program said that they had spent years being told there was nothing wrong with them yet they had all the symptoms that were not improving.

Might be worth looking into, to rule it out if nothing else. Have you been in the countryside where there are deer?

Yes I live rurally and also have a dog-and it’s somethinf I’ve thought about but never had the rash or fever or noticed any ticks.

I have a friend who has just finished a years antibiotics who had no initial symptoms, just the fatigue and crippling pain.

Another who thought the bite was an ingrown hair initially. Then discovered it was the tick. She had very early treatment and didnt progress to worse symptoms.

It might be worth having it ruled out.

As an RN, you have a couple of results there that basically indicate that you have a very slightly high red blood cell number and size. Panic not- this can mean you were a tad dehydrated when then the blood was taken? Probable cause really. Maybe worth a recheck in a few weeks.

High side of normal is still normal so I wouldn't worry about the hematocrit. Yeah, high RBCs could just be a bit of dehydration.

I don't think you need to stress about these results at all. Of course keep your appointments and follow up with your GP as you're not feeling well but try to relax. Stress in itself is very bad for and certainly won't make you feel any better! Try to stay away from Dr. Google!
