AIBU?

To completely lose my shit at these teenagers?

I’m a mature postgrad student studying a full time masters whilst also working.
I’ve booked a few days off work so I can complete 2 assignments which are due in next week.
I’m sat in a “quiet zone” pod in the university library and there is a group of inconsiderate teenage students crammed into the pod next to me and using it as a fucking social area.
I’m trying to study but all I can hear is them waffling on about absolute shit really fucking loudly.

The security guard has already been over to ask them to move from the pod (they’re meant to be for one person only) and to keep the noise down.

I’d have no issue if they were doing group work and discussing quietly... but they’re currently discussing the Kardashians at top volume and being rude twats.

I’ve asked them nicely to keep it down. I’m about to go nuclear Angry

Do it! I bet they'll soon scuttle off!

BreastSideStory · 05/03/2019 12:41

I may get done for murder. Big tall twat boy is filling me with rage, he’s the loudest

Ugh teenagers are so annoying. No doubt I was equally as annoying as a teenager and my toddler ds will grow up and also be annoying, it's a rite of passage.

I was sitting behind a gaggle of them on the bus this morning. Just endless giggling and shouting and the most inane chat imaginable.

Clairaloulou · 05/03/2019 12:43

Go for it, I would. I did it at the cinema the other day at some idiots who were ruining it for everyone.

sagradafamiliar · 05/03/2019 12:44

Calm down. You need to approach someone other than a security guard who works in the library and ask them to remove the group.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 05/03/2019 12:45

Go over and tell them to be quiet or move. Hopefully they’ll do the latter.

BreastSideStory · 05/03/2019 12:45

@saxatablesalt on the bus is fine, it’s not meant to be a silent zone. This is.

Might be easier just to ask the security guard to desl with them. As they're already on his radar I expect he'll more than happy to.

BreastSideStory · 05/03/2019 12:46

I’m too polite 😂 I’ve sat he incandescent with rage because I’m too polite to tell them to shut up.
Fuck it. I’m doing it now

@TooTrueToBeGood security guard is about much use as a chocolate teapot

You might get a load of abuse and piss taking in return. Why not just ask someone whose job is it to tell them to leave?

steppemum · 05/03/2019 12:49

you are not being unreasonable AT ALL>
They are in a library in a quiet pod.

Go over be firm and clear, spell it out. Tell them to get lost. Go to a cafe etc, but get out of the quiet zone, as people are trying to work, and they are breaking all the rules.

If they don;t respond, go and get the security guard and insist he kicks them out.

ivykaty44 · 05/03/2019 12:49

Quietly ask them if they can explain what the issue is? The rules are there so people can study and they’ve been asked twice - so ask how or what is preventing them from behaving as requested?

booksandcaffeine · 05/03/2019 12:50

Could you go to the help desk and tell one of the assistants? It's so annoying, it happened all the time when I was at uni.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 05/03/2019 12:51

Do it! And tell us what happens...

RiverTam · 05/03/2019 12:51

do it! I think that sometimes teens are so surprised at anyone not in obvious authority calling them out that it stuns them into silence.

IncrediblySadToo · 05/03/2019 12:52

Lose your shit.

At least you’ll get done work done then.

I took the train into London on Sunday, I had work to do and so sat in the quiet zone. A woman and her two kids (about 6 & 8) got onto the basically empty train, in the Quiet Zone. WHY just why? They argued and she loud parented the entire fucking way there. Arghhhhhhhhhh. (Yes I could have moved to another carriage, but I didn’t, because I didn’t know if there was another supposedly quiet zone).

On the way home there were two GCSE year girls talking really loudly about how they ‘wish I gave a fuck, but don’t, so yeah not bovering wiv it. Parents can get to fuck’. Drone drone drone...

Arghhhh

In the library, I wouldn’t hesitate to tell them to STFU or PO.

BreastSideStory · 05/03/2019 12:54

Annoying boy has gone now. 2 girls are left and they’re being quiet so no problems there.
I told them I had listened to them talking for 45 mins and is was disturbing me. The girls were apologetic but the boy huffed a bit... so I pointed out that the library quiet zone probably wasn’t the best place to discuss his private life bearing in mind he has no idea if I know “Lucy” or not.
He went red, and has left.l

Hahaha Nice work! Grin

RiverTam · 05/03/2019 12:56

hahahahahaaaaa! Silly twit! And there's female vs male socialisation in practise.

In my local library it drives the staff mad when kids coming in to use the computers to play games make a racket - it's not a youth club - but equally they probably have nowhere else to go.

Not the same for adult uni students!

steppemum · 05/03/2019 12:59

Oh love it, especially the bit about 'Lucy' !!

Well, done, don;t wait so long next time.

Grumpelstilskin · 05/03/2019 13:11

Errrm, can you fill us in about Lucy...? Grin
