About a hairy salad!

Quick question, if I may. Yesterday I went to one of those places where you choose your ingredients and they toss the salad freshly in front of you. I ordered a naice salad (lettuce base with lots of veggies and some feta cheese and piri piri mayonnaise if anyone cares) and took it back to my desk.

Halfway through eating it, I spotted a long, dark hair from the girl who made it for me, nestling in the bowl. I pulled the non-envy face Envy and threw the remainder in the bin.

My colleague asked me what the problem was, and when I told her, she couldn’t believe I would bin the rest of the salad over a small hair. She said she would just have binned the hair and carried on eating, and that I was over reacting.

And I saw the hair and went, nope nope nope.

So, who WBU, me or her? Would you have carried on eating after removing someone else’s hair? Or was I just being precious?

(For the record, I wasn’t bothered about taking it back; I go there regularly and mistakes can happen anywhere!)

No way would I have eaten it, but I wouldn't have binned it - I'd have taken it back with the hair for a refund.

I'm aware it's grim but I would've eaten it. Far too lazy to schlep back for a refund. When you think about germs on door handles, handbags on desks, germs on shoes etc I can't get worked up about a bit of hair 🤷‍♀️

Ha, that’s like re-reading the conversation I had with my colleague for the exact same reasons!

Laziness may well also have been a factor in my not taking it back, I guess Blush.

Depends on how hungry I was /how nice the salad was! Would probably have just thrown away food touching the hair.

A hair is hardly likely to contaminate the salad! It’s more a mental thing than a real issue.

I would have binned it too, that's awful!

I hate finding hairs or eyelashes in my food. I always put my hair in a bun when cooking and wrap a scarf over it.

I remember eating cake at a friend's house and finding a dog hair embedded in it (same colour as her dog!)

Was the girl who served you not wearing protective hair covering?

I would also have binned it, hair in food is horrible.

I'd have binned it. Couldn't enjoy it after I'd seen the hair. I'd also probably (unreasonably) never go back after that as I'd always be checking for a hair!

Unless it looked like a pubic hair, I'd have just removed the hair and eaten it. What do you think would have been on the hair that you aren't exposed to everywhere?

You wrap your head in a scarf every time you cook a meal in your house??

I'd have removed the hair and eaten the rest. It's a hair not a shit. Can never quite understand the extreme dramatics that accompany a hair found in food.

It turns my stomach despite knowing it’s not going to kill me, it’s like if I get a tiny bit of eaggshell. Stomach turns and brain says NO. I wouldn’t bother about a refund though.

She was wearing a hair covering, I guess it could have been one of her colleagues’ or from when it was chopped earlier that day. It was just long and black and she had long black hair, so I assumed it fell out when she was mixing it for me or something.

I know it’s irrational in some ways, but.... hair in food is such a sensory thing!
