AIBU?

OK, IA probably BU - but I'm still cross with DH and need to vent!

First baby due in six days, so slightly on edge (for background).

DH goes off to get haircut this morning. He got it cropped six weeks ago, something I wasn't sure about but ended up quite liking - however, I did say at the time that I thought it shouldnt be any shorter at all as his hairs quite thin and it would look awful.

But as soon as it was cut he started saying he wanted to try the No3 (shorter). I have been saying PLEASE dont every time he mentioned it for the last six weeks.

And this morning he got it anyway. And sure enough it looks AWFUL (you can see his scalp). So when our LO - hopefully - arrives safe and sound in a few days DH is going to look a right eejit in all the photos. And Id begged him not to, all he had to do was stick with the slightly longer version.

And now he is upset because I hate it and I said so. And I know it`s his hair and not my decision, but AAAAAAAAAAARGH GRRRRRRRRRRR...

Yep, it's his hair YABU! Sorry!

does he like it though?

it will grow back!

when mean are going thin on top it normally does look better very short. my dh has a number 2 all over and it looks fine. thing is, it's his hair. i don't ask his views on my hair after all.

also, you're both going to look shite through lack of sleep on the early photos, and anyway they will mostly be just of the baby. honestly, don't worry about it.

sory

but

yabu

his hair - or lack thereof

imo tis far better to go short when losing hair - dh has a number 2 - rather than sporting the desperate look

so be grateful

If it's any consolation, no-one will be looking at him when they look at the photos.

And it will grow back.

Go and have a nice cup of tea and chill - it's not hugely important in the scheme of things.

You're at the stage where everything is important and everything is a big deal. You want things to be perfect. You don't have control over the next few days and he took the last bit if control you had ('Don't get your bloody hair cut that short..')

Believe me, it won't be important at all when lo arrives safe and well.

get a grip woman

his hair will have grown a bit in 6 weeks (my dh has to get his cut every 6 weeks, or he looks like a scarecrow)

and any way in the photos, who's going to be looking at the father's head? They'll be looking at the baby!

Moorhen · 07/07/2007 17:40

LOL muppetgirl, I had given up on perfection days ago but apart from that I think you hit the nail on the head!

Tis true that we will look awful in photos anyway, and TBH photos were not really the main issue, more that there was one haircut that would look terrible and I would hate, and a slightly longer version I could live with, and despite my pleading he went for the first one. I would have compromised if had been other way round.

And FWIW he admits it looks sh*te and he never thought it would look good. This I do not understand, completely alien way of thinking!

Very little time to take photos anyway once the baby is there. It's the sort of thing you really really want to take more of and can hardly find time to get dressed never mind get the camera out so I wouldn't worry about it. ...or buy him a toupe I suppose.

...picture the day when you show your lo the pictures of their arrival.

you can say, '..ahh, mummy looked tired, you looked very cute and daddy has shit hair.'

Lots of new parents (and other relatives) take loads of photos when you've got your first-born Xenia.

But yes, you will both look like zombies most of the time anyway, hehe, and people will only be looking at the baby.

You do have my sympathy though, Moorhen, even if you are being slightly unreasonable. I remember how fractious I was in the runup to the birth of DS1.

Poor DH couldn't do right for doing wrong.

Toupee? Maybe, but come to think of it, I have Photoshop - I could always give him something more luxuriant... blonde curls, perhaps...

If my partner told me not to get my hair cut any shorter I'd have it shaved.

He's telling you to back off making his decisions for him, I think.

This made me chuckle. I remember when I was in labour with ds1 and dh put on his Bristol Shoguns rugby shirt to wear at the birth. I went spare and made him put on a shirt I liked .

YA definitely BU but hey, you're 39+1, you're about to push a baby out of your fanjo, I think a little unreasonableness is allowed!

Report
muppetgirl · 07/07/2007 18:02

dye your fanjo hair!!!
that'll shock him

Report
Moorhen · 07/07/2007 18:05

NADB I didn`t tell him, I asked politely - and normally I would never do even that. He has said it was not done to spite me.

Olihan - snigger.

I can understand that you might prefer his hair in a different style. But TBH, it's not the end of the world. Read some of the threads about people whose partners are cheating on them or have serious, even terminal, illnesses.People who are trying really hard to conceive, and you'll soon be having a baby. Is a haircut still that important? Reassess your priorities, and if his haircut remains top of the list, then by all means carry on making the guy's life a misery, but you're going to need all of his support when the baby is born so perhaps now isn't a good time to be winding him up about something relatively trivial. Sorry if this sounds really harsh, but just reading some of the other threads kind of made me a little impatient with this one. I hope all goes well with the birth and look forward to hearing your good news.

Muppetgirl, like yer style. Tho will have to wait until I can SEE the hair in question... I only found out about my stretch marks last week in the changing room at H&M, cos they were hidden under my mahoosive bump.

I knew I was BU before I posted, but am now sitting here giggling and seeing the funny side. You've got to love Mumsnet...

That's a bit strong lilolil!

he OP didn't say it's the end of the world, she's in NO WAY comparing it to any of the things you mention. She's just expressing annoyance.

Sheesh!

sorry, didn't mean to offend, but I do sometimes think people need to put their grievances into perspective. \
Apologies Moorhen, I'm a nice person really - but have had a bad day myself and just given myself a kick up the arse having read some of the other threads.

maybe you'll get used to the new haircut by the time the baby's born? Are you all ready? Nervous/excited?
