... the gravy boat

- always drips
- never big enough
- alwas at the wrong end of the table
- a pain in the drawer as it's not stackable

I'm moving house. gravy boat will stay behind.

Aw I used to love it at my Granny's when the gravy boat arrived at the table and got passed around!
Mine is the vax carpet washer I bought forgetting we have floorboards blush

cardibach Thu 28-Feb-19 17:44:18

What will you pour gravy from? Have you thought this through?

LeggyLinda Thu 28-Feb-19 17:46:08

Also, they are not compatible with my gravy - cannot get a knife in to cut yourself a slice 😜

Disfordarkchocolate Thu 28-Feb-19 17:48:16

I love both of mine, little one for when there's only 2 or 3 people, the big one that does more people. I am thinking of getting an insulted gravy jug though, my MIL will love it at Christmas.

BlueJava Thu 28-Feb-19 17:49:21

No! I love the gravy boat - it's huge and was 99p in Tescos at Christmas!

Crockof Thu 28-Feb-19 17:52:01

Agree wtaf are you going to use, a wine glass, a bowl, bucket??? Agree with @cardibach you need to seriously consider this.

startingtolooklikemother Thu 28-Feb-19 17:53:18

Since discovering frozen mash potatoes, my masher and ricer thing (that I never used) have been donated to charity.

greenelephantscarf Thu 28-Feb-19 17:54:22

mostly we use chinese soup bowls (one size bigger than breakfast bowls) and a small ladle.

greenelephantscarf Thu 28-Feb-19 17:56:22

there is also an electric wok which we have never used...

babycatcher411 Thu 28-Feb-19 18:03:15

Agreed, never big enough! We always end up using the Pyrex measuring jug

greenelephantscarf Thu 28-Feb-19 18:06:00

leggy I like your style
would a baking tray work for gravy jelly grin

pastabest Thu 28-Feb-19 18:07:15

I just pour mine straight out of the gravy pan onto the plate. Gravy pan goes back on the job to keep warm for second helpings.

Why dirty another piece of crockery unnecessarily.

whiteblankpage Thu 28-Feb-19 18:07:44

We also have 2 - the gravy boat for small groups/meals and the gravy aircraft carrier for big affairs 😁
I fill mine with hot water for ten minutes before I need to pour in the gravy, warms it up lovely and keeps the gravy hot.

Spoon rest, anybody?

If you can't or don't want to use the plate that you'll be eating off to park the spoon whilst preparing the meal, why not just grab a side plate, which is also useful for various other purposes?

Why go to the hassle of owning and storing something of such limited functionality?

FloralTeacup Thu 28-Feb-19 18:09:07

Pyrex jug all the way!

iklboo Thu 28-Feb-19 18:09:12

The bloody spiraliser DH got suckered into buying.

User5trillion Thu 28-Feb-19 18:09:21

We have 2 gravy boats thus solving the at the wrong end of the table dilemma and solving the capacity issuegrin felt like a proper grown up buying one from the charity shop. Admittedly one pours really badly though.

BiglyBadgers Thu 28-Feb-19 18:09:49

I just use a pyrex pint sized measuring jug for gravy. I have no idea what's happened to the gravy boat now you mention it. I'm sure we have one somewhere.

greenelephantscarf Thu 28-Feb-19 18:11:10

pint size is waaaayyyyy too small for us

Strugglingtodomybest Thu 28-Feb-19 18:11:12

Definitely my ironing board, which is currently residing in the attic.

I have a gravy jug...

TitsAndTomatoes Thu 28-Feb-19 18:11:33

Electric wok? Electric? Wok?

(Also a gravy boat is ome of the first things i bought for my kitchen. First whinge glasses. Then gravy boat. Then Cutlery. Priorities lol)

TitsAndTomatoes Thu 28-Feb-19 18:12:05

**WINE !!! Wine glasses not whinge glasses lol

Ironfloor269 Thu 28-Feb-19 18:13:44

Vax steam mop. It's alright but doesn't do anything more than what the conventional mop and squeeze bucket doesn't. And it's a pain to always make sure there's enough Vax detergent around, because you can't put any other detergent in it.

dudsville Thu 28-Feb-19 18:15:22

I second the spoon rest. It's been refunctioned as the place to put tea bags.
