I’ve still got 14 weeks before baby makes an appearance but I really want to get a start on the nursery.

The room is 14x10 foot and square shaped - no sticky out walls etc.

We don’t know what we’re having (sex) and have purchased dark wood furniture.

I don’t know what to do - I’ve tried google and Pinterest and nothing is striking out at me.

I want something that will last a couple of years and maybe something either quite light and welcoming or bright and exciting?!

Please any ideas would be appreciated!

TIA!

It's a while ago for me but I had a frieze of zoo animals and found it a good thing to talk about in those first minutes when you've lifted them out of the cot but they're still coming round from sleep or calming if been crying. I'd say" hello giraffe, what lovely spots, hello zebra I can see your stripes " etc All good for language development, it doesn't have to be over the top but I do feel the fashion for white and neutral is more for parents than baby.

We went for cloud and rainbow themed, that way all the garish plastic tat they get given blends in Grin I got cloud wall stickers off Amazon and replaced the knobs on drawers with mismatched multicoloured ceramic ones. We have a big old Persian rug on the floor which is quite bright and then sheepskins by the bed. All very easy to change too

We haven’t done ours yet as dd is still in with us but we’re doing cloud/sky/birds theme. I plan on getting one of those lovely hot air balloons that hang from the ceiling. Can’t wait!

Don’t panic. Your baby won’t be in there until they are 6 months and maybe not even then.

Love the idea of clouds, blue sky and rainbows.
I also love idea of woodland theme. Woodland animal and tree stickers off Amazon and pale green walls.

Woodland themed looks nice with dark wood. There are loads of ideas on Pinterest. Wall stickers are an easy way of adding colour and interest.

It also seems obligatory to have Ikea mosslanda picture shelves for children’s books. We’ve done the same and it does work well and looks nice. My parents thought we were very clever for being so ‘original’- obviously I didn’t tell them we stole the idea of Pinterest and that seemingly every child under 5 in my area has exactly the same.

Our first one had hot air balloon stickers and was quite brightly coloured. The second is mint with clouds and bits of yellow. Maybe keep delving in Pinterest - I found it useful sometimes

Yay! Thanks all!

Some great ideas here. I have been leaning towards a starry night theme but feel the poor sod may never know light with all the dark furniture and dark walls.

Any pictures would be appreciated too!

I love the Scandinavian style, I'll look now for pics. Any excuse to get out of working!

I love these, worked so well for us. We have the house bed but with a double mattress so I could actually sleep when DS demanded my company at 2am

I've gone for a very light blue, with bright rainbow and cloud type accessories, it is light and bright and works for either sex

Yellow is a lovely warm colour to have. I had a skip hop treetop decal on buttermilk walls. Wood not as dark as yours but certainly not a light colour (it was autumn oak I believe). The room did not seem small at all.

Sorry no pics I honestly cant find any!

I have space theme, maybe a bit old but it looks ace and it’ll last a few years. Mixture of baby blue and darker blue walls. Got the planets on one wall, rockets spaceships etc on another, glow in the dark stars and a star light projector. Super lucky to find a rocket mat in a charity shop for £2.50 it all comes together pretty well

What's your style like? I'm pretty much the same as you (26 weeks) and we've just started thinking about it - although yet to buy anything.

I'm keen that it's gender neutral, something baby will love and find interesting and something that sort of goes with the rest of the house.

I'm thinking one wallpaper wall and then bright colours the rest of it that matches the wallpaper. I found this website this week and love some of their stuff (don't know how to link?)

I've got dark wood furniture and went with a cream brown theme with lots of hares! Found a beautiful brass hare shaped lamp, multiple canvases. Also in TK Max there's loads of Easter themed stuff so easy to get little hare statues etc. Plus some little fake plants and mini trees give it a beautiful natural woodland feel 😁💕

Have attached a picture of when it was half finished as it's too messy to take a pic of now lol!

We have 2 yellow walls two sky blue walls. I got some stencils of hot air balloons, clouds and flowers and made one of the walls a "sky" it looks really gorgeous.

Dd was already born when we did this so you could leave the flowers if you thought they were two girly. You could go for woodland animals instead.

By the way we have always preferred paint and stencils on our children's walls as they can easily be touched up if they get crayon/sticky hand prints etc.

Opted for a white room but with pink curtains and then someone bought us this www.notonthehighstreet.com/artpause/product/animal-map-of-the-world-for-children
(with the pink background) that I loved and put above the changing table.

I didnt want to get too themed in the room until I knew what they were into, and they grow so quickly anything too cutsie and baby would look out of place very quickly imo.

Some of these sound lovely!

Here I some I like but don’t know about to give an idea of my style - I’m not even sure I need a ‘theme’.

I realise this is a lot of thought for a nursery but it’s my PFB and I’m excited Grin
