To think what fresh hell is this?!

Exactly that!!

What fresh hell is this?!!

43 years old... noticed a hair on my chin. Yep. A HAIR on my chin. BTW I'm female. For clarity. I feel that's an important piece of information. Anyway, back to the hair. It wasn't just a little hair. It was jet black and stuck out at an angle - like it was stood on end. I mean - how long has said hair been there?! And why the hell has no one told me?!!! Have people been doing that thing when talking to me where they're trying desperately to maintain eye contact whilst thinking all the while 'don't look at the chin, must not look at the chin.'

Upon said discovery I grabbed my tweezers. I say grabbed but to be honest I weep when trying to pluck my eyebrows so I couldn't lay my hands upon said tweezers straight away since I hid them and vowed to never inflict such pain on myself ever again. Anyway, I digress. Had to stand very close to the mirror because at this point I realised that my eyesight is just not quite what it used to be and focusing on said hair just wasn't quite that easy. It took forever to find the little bugger again and when I did I couldn't quite grab it and as such my chin now looks like it's been attacked by a small animal.

Not satisfied with the discovery of said hair, as I was stood in the bathroom, practically nose to mirror I was a little taken aback at the line of fuzz on my top lip! Again, I ask you all dear people, what fresh hell is this?!!! Knowing that my DD has Veet wax strips (others are presumably available?!!) in her shit tip bedroom I decided I was on a roll and that I'd tackle said fuzz. Fuck me. Dear God. I read the instructions and held the strip in my hand to warm it. The first strip I put on I pressed down firmly. And then?...

Then I was too scared to pull it off. I counted to 3. Then I counted to 3 again. Then I counted to 10. Again I ask you, what fresh hell is this?????? Plucking eyebrows has nowt on this!! Weeping??? Rolling round on the bathroom floor! However... I'd only done one side. There was no one home to dtd and it fell to me to finish what I'd started.

Needless to say that whilst my chin looks like I've been attacked by a small animal , fuck me my top lip has been annihilated!!!!

I ask again dear friends, what fresh hell is this getting older?!!!

How long till the bleeding stops and the red swelling goes down?? I look like I've had lip fillers that have gone wrong!

sparklefarts Tue 26-Feb-19 20:50:37

Meh, I'm 30 and have been plucking them for a good few years now

Periperisauce1 Tue 26-Feb-19 20:50:49

I have a ginger whisker that sticks out of my chin. shock

sparklefarts Tue 26-Feb-19 20:51:23

Oh and my chin hair was where I found my first grey

Gindrinker43 Tue 26-Feb-19 20:51:30

Wait until you have a whole moustache to deal with.

Bunnybigears Tue 26-Feb-19 20:52:06

I'm amazed you got to 42 without finding a chin hair before.

formerbabe Tue 26-Feb-19 20:52:38

I'm amazed you have managed ok up to your forties. I'm 37 and have to wax my top lip and I get those awful coarse hairs on my chin.

youarenotkiddingme Tue 26-Feb-19 20:52:47

You're lucky you got above 40 before it happened.

I've been growing white whiskers since I turned 30 🤷‍♀️😂

And so much is my expertise at plucking said hairs with tweezers my 14yo DS has started doing same with his chin hairs to delay the need for full on shaving grin

Queenfreak Tue 26-Feb-19 20:53:24

Ah shit. I've just turned 42.
Thanks for the heads up.
And thanks for the hilarious account grin

Merryoldgoat Tue 26-Feb-19 20:53:40

I have just started shaving my beard and ‘tache because the years of plucking/waxing/threading is very boring.

One hair? Pah.

I’ve been a Yeti since my 20s.

Happyinheels Tue 26-Feb-19 20:53:46

No way???!!!!! I thought it was a thing for like, in my sixties???!!!!!

LuckyAmy1986 Tue 26-Feb-19 20:53:47

I’m in my early 30s and have had chin hair ever since I can remember! Which I remove... lol. Welcome to the club!

GoGoGadgetGin Tue 26-Feb-19 20:54:04

I have had similar since birth of DC waxed top lip and now have lots of lovely broken capillaries- when will this go down??

Happyinheels Tue 26-Feb-19 20:54:30

@Merryoldgoat a yeti grin!!!!

ralphfromlordoftheflies Tue 26-Feb-19 20:54:30

I feel like a new woman every 4 weeks when it's moustache wax day.

40 something and you've only just sprouted your first whisker?!

Happyinheels Tue 26-Feb-19 20:55:30

@Periperisauce1 a whisker!!!! grin

slipperywhensparticus Tue 26-Feb-19 20:55:35

I grow a loooooong hair overnight apparently because I don't notice it till its huge!

I found one on my friends face she told me to get it quick!

Happyinheels Tue 26-Feb-19 20:56:45

@ralphfromlordoftheflies a moustache wax??? Does it grow back spikey? Or like a shadow?? I need educating clearly!!

NoNeedToArgue Tue 26-Feb-19 20:57:01

I'm 39 and fave been plucking for 10 years easily. I have a real love hate relationship with those chin hairs you describe though, it is so satisfying pulling them out. The tash is much worse as not as quickly, easily and satisfyingly dealt with!

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain Tue 26-Feb-19 20:57:25

I've had chin pubes for years. I'm in my 40s now and the buggers have started going grey sad

EyeDrops Tue 26-Feb-19 20:57:35

Yep, coarse chin hairs since my mid 20s here, and I've always had a 'tache... I feel sorry for my daughters, both born pretty hairy and have all this joy to come!

IchWill Tue 26-Feb-19 20:57:39

Mine started three years ago, aged 39. Started with a big black wiry one on my chin. Nowadays it's about three on my chin and two above my lip. I'm not gonna look like a effin' witch, I pluck them as soon as they start to regrow with some amazing precision tweezers. The buggers.

Happyinheels Tue 26-Feb-19 20:57:58

But it is going to go down isn't it??? In time for the school run in the morning????

flimbo1212 Tue 26-Feb-19 20:58:01

Great thread

I am the same age as you OP, and female. I pluck my chin every week. and im constantly rubbing it to check for stubble...its always in the same place too

Your post made me laugh though and I am glad there is a funny side to all of this x

NoNeedToArgue Tue 26-Feb-19 20:58:12

Regrow then from tash wax is no big deal, no shadow or prickliness.

NameyMcNameChange1 Tue 26-Feb-19 20:58:40

I have had a white whisker that grows out of my cheek since I was 21. It doesn’t seem to be made of the same material the rest of my hair is - it’s like a pube but thicker and dead straight. It’s also never ending, I pluck it and within 48hours it’s poking its little white tip out of my cheek again.

I’ve actually grown quite fond of it and if it isn’t there ready for its weekly plucking I’m slightly disappointed.

NoNeedToArgue Tue 26-Feb-19 20:58:42

Hidethecrisps Tue 26-Feb-19 20:59:17

Ha! As I read this I currently have hair remover cream plastered over my upper lip and chin. Standard monthly ritual for years now, oh and I’m 38.

Happyinheels Tue 26-Feb-19 20:59:20

@flimbo1212 STUBBLE????? No. Just no. No?

MitziK Tue 26-Feb-19 20:59:31

Pay a nice lady a fiver or so to do the waxing for you. It'll be quicker/less painful and you'll just look slightly flushed scarlet from neck to eyebrows for twenty minutes afterwards, rather than for days.

It also means you'll see people younger than you getting considerably more coarse, thick hair being removed, so you don't feel quite so weird about it.

LuckyAmy1986 Tue 26-Feb-19 20:59:33

Yes it will go down. Do you have any vitamin e cream
Or similar?

cushioncovers Tue 26-Feb-19 20:59:40

Get a 10x magnifying mirror and your tweezers. Have fun.

Amfeelingfline Tue 26-Feb-19 20:59:49

😂😂😂 this made me laugh!!! I have one very stubborn dark chin hair, it’s been there since my late teens early twenties, but have had to tweeze out my “tash” and monobrow since even before that, i’m Glad for the thick eyebrow fashion, as I gave up on mine years ago...

Livelovebehappy Tue 26-Feb-19 20:59:53

Pretty sure I’m probably being very weird here, but I actually like plucking my two resident chin hairs with tweezers. I get quite excited when I spot regrowth!

Gazelda Tue 26-Feb-19 21:00:36

I've got one on my jawline that's grown so long in the last 10 mins that I'm sitting here idly twiddling it!

Happyinheels Tue 26-Feb-19 21:00:57

@LuckyAmy1986 hmm no... I've gone for ice!!

JE87 Tue 26-Feb-19 21:00:59

I'm 31 and I've been plucking them for years!

Happyinheels Tue 26-Feb-19 21:01:22

@cushioncovers yes that's a great idea!

LuckyAmy1986 Tue 26-Feb-19 21:03:11

Honestly just grab any moisturiser you have and slather it on, it’ll be find

Alsohuman Tue 26-Feb-19 21:03:28

Ever noticed women in meetings/on the train, etc stroking their chins? That's how you find the buggers without your reading glasses or a mirror.

LuckyAmy1986 Tue 26-Feb-19 21:03:30

Happyinheels Tue 26-Feb-19 21:04:09

@Alsohuman proper belly laughed at that!

Pinkginxx Tue 26-Feb-19 21:04:18

I see your chin hair and raise you a nipple hair which randomly started appearing in my mid 30’s..... it goes from zero to 10 inches in an hour... shock

mimibunz Tue 26-Feb-19 21:04:57

You will never discover more chin hairs than when you whip out a mirror on the 11:07 GWR out of Oxford without a pair of tweezers in sight.

origamiunicorn Tue 26-Feb-19 21:05:00

I'm in my 30s and often have a stiff little white one growing out my chin. Thing is, it sneaks up on me 🤣 I never catch it a mm long, by the time I notice it it's a bloody cm long.

origamiunicorn Tue 26-Feb-19 21:05:29

Ok, maybe half a cm, just realised a cm is pretty long 🤣

Happyinheels Tue 26-Feb-19 21:05:44

@Pinkginxx nipple hair??? quickly whips baps out

gettingbacktoresearch Tue 26-Feb-19 21:07:53

It’s when you go to sleep with nothing there and wake up to 5 hiding under your chin!!!! Eeeek shock

Hedgehogblues Tue 26-Feb-19 21:08:37

Eh, I have PCOS. Been hairy since my teens. I shave my face every other day

chatwoo Tue 26-Feb-19 21:09:18

Come back when you find white eyebrow hairs grin

Fiveredbricks Tue 26-Feb-19 21:09:58

I have 9. I've had a new one every year for a decade. I'm 33. I'd suggest going to wilkos and getting a menopause pee test OP.

listsandbudgets Tue 26-Feb-19 21:10:42

I get them too.

Some nights I sit and watch TV and absently pull chin hairs out with my fingers - deeply satisfying. I tried waxing just the once but ended up all spotty and red so stick to plucking and shaving now.

The 'tache is worst though sad

To top it all the other day my 6 year old ds asked me if I was turning into a man because I was growing a beard... I'd only pulled 4 of the b*stard things out the night before.

I'm with you in your trauma OP

Pinkginxx Tue 26-Feb-19 21:10:48

It sneakily hid in the under-nipple area. Think it was lonely and trying to make contact with pubes by the length of it shock
Although plucking is oddly satisfying...

CanILeavenowplease Tue 26-Feb-19 21:11:54

I’m growing a beard...kind of like playing with it!

TaliZorahVasNormandy Tue 26-Feb-19 21:12:05

I have a plethora of random hairs.

Loads on my chin.

One growing on the side of my nose, near my eye.

One that grows inbetween my boobs.

And a really long one on my arm.

I even had an ingrowing hair on my chin. The fucker!!

Dreamzcancometrue Tue 26-Feb-19 21:12:06

First world problems 😒

Samind Tue 26-Feb-19 21:12:23

20's too and been doing since 18/19. Also get a random dark black hair on side of face from time to time. Your post had made me laugh op. Welcome to the fuzz 😂😂

Purpleartichoke Tue 26-Feb-19 21:12:47

Welcome to middle-age.

Mine are white and seem to grow in minutes. I’ve tried wax and depilatory, but at this point I use a small epilator every couple of weeks. My sensitive skin couldn’t handle the other methods. So I epilate and pluck the crazy instant ones as needed.

It’s also worth investing in good tweezers. I had a miraculous bargain brand pair that were perfectly balanced and always grabbed the hair firmly. I caught DH using them to pluck a nose hair. He got to buy me high end tweezers after that.

Deadringer Tue 26-Feb-19 21:13:02

I have a thick black hair that grows out of a small mole on my face, this thread has reminded me to yank it out before I go to bed. I am worried now though, I am in my 50s and haven't noticed any other facial hair yet, am I a yeti but haven't noticed due to failing eyesight?

Mummyoflittledragon Tue 26-Feb-19 21:13:09

I found a long hair under my boob in my teens. It just grew to 12 inches plus long out of nowhere. It never did reappear. Chin hairs? I’ve also only been having them for a couple of years. I’m a few years older than you. If you don’t have many, it’s also ok to shave the bugger off. I’ve done that a couple of times.

PartyHatOnADog Tue 26-Feb-19 21:14:48

I have a black one on my chin and a white one smack bang in the middle if my forehead. Like a really shit unicorn.

maddiemookins16mum Tue 26-Feb-19 21:15:33

I’m 54 and have a freckle on my face that sports a lovely jet black hair out of it. I look like Nanny Mc feckin Phee. What’s worse is that sometimes I see it out the corner of my eye just waving at me going coooeeee.

shpoot Tue 26-Feb-19 21:15:37

gringrin it'll appear every couple of weeks forever now!

Use nair cream on the lip. The wax is a killer, can look obvious cause the area is too sensitive.

Welcome to the world of yeti

Happyinheels Tue 26-Feb-19 21:16:17

Thanks everyone! I have had a few raucous laughs as I've read your replies!

I'm going to have to examine for more!

Happyinheels Tue 26-Feb-19 21:17:36

Thanks @shpoot ! That's great to know as currently my top lip is raw!!!!!!

shpoot Tue 26-Feb-19 21:19:50

No problem! It's like magic. Just try and remember not to answer the door and pay the window cleaner with it on blush

TaliZorahVasNormandy Tue 26-Feb-19 21:19:54

Word of advice. A sun visor mirror in the car is the best place to catch them. You can get closer view of them.

CheeseFace Tue 26-Feb-19 21:20:59

I discovered my first neck hair - yes, An actual NECK hair - on my 40th birthday. The bugger was about an inch long, so wiry you could hang your washing on it, and was practically waving in the breeze heralding my middle age.

Samind Tue 26-Feb-19 21:21:40

stay away from the sunlight!!!!! You'll dip your face in wax!!!! Once you see them all you can't understand them!!!!

Samind Tue 26-Feb-19 21:21:53

IHeartMarmiteToast Tue 26-Feb-19 21:22:47

I found my first hag whisker at 20. You're doing well

Cheeeeislifenow Tue 26-Feb-19 21:23:12

I'm 33 and regularly enjoy a good chin pluck....I can nearly tell when my period is coming!

Yoneri Tue 26-Feb-19 21:23:33

I really don't understand why you so frustrated
It's natural process

IchWill Tue 26-Feb-19 21:25:15

@CheeseFace Thank you for the belly laugh. 😂

IchWill Tue 26-Feb-19 21:25:56

@IHeartMarmiteToast Totally stealing "hag whisker"! 😂😅

Deadringer Tue 26-Feb-19 21:26:19

Around the time I turned 50 I was plucking my eyebrows and using one of those mirrors, you know the ones that are normal on one side and magnified on the other, and I was examining my magnified wrinkles, pores, broken veins et al with fascinated horror when I realized I was looking into the normal side of the mirror!

LizzieSiddal Tue 26-Feb-19 21:26:21

I’m 53 so De fuzzing is a regular occurance.

My tips:

Get some Dudacreme on that top lip. Rub loads in now and reapply before you go to bed. It will be much better in the morning.

Buy about 5 pairs of tweezers, because you never know when and where the fuckers will appear. You will not regret this! I keep...
A pair in my purse.
A pair in my car.
A pair on the dressing table
A pair in the bathroom.
A pair in make up bag.

Good luck!

Alsohuman Tue 26-Feb-19 21:26:22

Yeah entirely natural to have a forest of hairs on your chin. No need to give in to it, though.

LizzieSiddal Tue 26-Feb-19 21:26:40

That should be Sudacreme.

Travis1 Tue 26-Feb-19 21:28:08

Meh, I’ve got pcos I can grow a beard to rival my husbands. I’d love one hair and a bum fluff ‘tache

Nutkin123 Tue 26-Feb-19 21:28:25

Hahaha I've had one since I was about 23. It'll be a full blown beard when I hit 60 probably

BeanTownNancy Tue 26-Feb-19 21:28:55

Oooooh, thank you for reminding me! I felt a bristle on my chin when I was at my desk today pondering over a spreadsheet - I'll get to plucking!

(I'm 31)

ReaganSomerset Tue 26-Feb-19 21:29:34

😂😂😂 You should do stand-up. I laughed out loud.

blackcoffeeinbed Tue 26-Feb-19 21:29:39

I'm 31, and discovered a chin hair about 6 months ago! Ive had to keep plucking it but luckily it's just the one atm. I've always had a tash being dark haired but have got used to waxing it myself since I was a teenager. The pain does get more bearable, just make sure you always use the aloe Vera wipes the strips come with or if u have an aloe Vera moisturiser slap that in, the redness should disappear over night. I accept it's just one of those things I have to deal with!

CheekyFuckersDontGetPastMe Tue 26-Feb-19 21:30:16

My DH kindly let me know about a long wiry hair growing out of the top of my nose in between my eyebrows.

We call it my unicorn horn. It also grows from zero to horn at a rate of speed.

gigi556 Tue 26-Feb-19 21:30:58

Try being of Mediterranean heritage... I've been dealing with chin hair since my early twenties!!!

AnguasDogCollar Tue 26-Feb-19 21:31:08

Samind Me too! My face pube. And I never seem to catch it growing, it just springs fully formed from my face. I usually notice it at a social event when I've gone to the loo and have no tweezers.

Top lip have tried creams (brings me out in a rash) plucking (too painful) waxing (too expensive) and ultimately just went for a lady shaver. It's brilliant. Takes about half a minute, no rash, no pain, sorted.

BrizzleMint Tue 26-Feb-19 21:31:24

But it is going to go down isn't it??? In time for the school run in the morning????

It'll have a friend by the morning! Worry not though, just make friends with other women the same age and their eyesight will be too bad to see it grin

MorganKitten Tue 26-Feb-19 21:31:25

I’ve had them since my 20s..

ladybird69 Tue 26-Feb-19 21:31:28

I’m almost 50 and have a Goaty that most men would pay £s for! Half of me wants to wear a mask 24/7 , i get the 5 o’clock shadow at lunch time!!! The other half wants to join the Greatest Showman cast and never cut it again.
On a more serious side it really takes your confidence cause you’re not a bloody man you’re a woman.

MadeleineMaxwell Tue 26-Feb-19 21:31:46

Just shouting out to my fellow beardy PCOSers.

The stubble is quite handy if you have an itchy finger.

woodlands01 Tue 26-Feb-19 21:32:18

Had electrolysis years ago to deal with dark hair over top lip. At 54 I now have electrolysis once every 5/6 weeks to deal with top lip and chin and get my eyebrows tamed at same time. Lizzie you're doing well to pluck - I can't seem to see properly to deal with it. Glasses off no chance, glasses on get in the way of eyebrows. Sometimes I'll get such a long hair on chin and wonder how I didn't spot it. I'm really not a beauty salon type of person but I trust my lady to sort me out under that luminous light, well worth £25 a time.

EmmaGrundyForPM Tue 26-Feb-19 21:33:05

Until I was 44 I kidded myself that I didn't have facial hair. Then one day I scooped up my 4 year old niece for a cuddle, she stroked my face and then said in surprise " Oh Auntie Emma, I didn't know ladies had beards too". blushblush

I booked myself in for electrolysis the next day. I had to have 18 months of it but I'm now almost 53 and haven't had any facial hair for years I'm sure it will grow back post menopause though sad

Happyinheels Tue 26-Feb-19 21:34:08

Howling ladies!! Thank you! And loving the tips! Absolutely fantastic!

Oh and I'm not frustrated - just in bloody pain!!!! And wanted to share. Apologies if I've offended anyone with oversharing and TMI, wasn't my intention. It was supposed to be a comical slant on my experience and life as a woman and the things we go through...

But just to add - I left the eyebrows for tonight, just too much for my face to cope with!

Rtmhwales Tue 26-Feb-19 21:35:32

I have an errant nipple hair. Jet black, strong as steel, sticks straight out. hmmblush

Will never forget the early days with former DH: during foreplay he began blowing on my breast, to my utter confusion. When I asked what the hell he thought he was doing, he admitted he was trying to blow off an eyelash. Wanted to die then.

Merryoldgoat Tue 26-Feb-19 21:35:59

My 6yo got into bed with me on Sunday morning:

‘Mummy - why is your chin prickly? I think it’s a beard Mummy. Can I rub it?’

I like pulling out the really deep ones that look like an eyebrow when you get them. Mmmmmmm.

Merryoldgoat Tue 26-Feb-19 21:36:57

When I asked what the hell he thought he was doing, he admitted he was trying to blow off an eyelash. Wanted to die then.

This is the best thing I’ve ever read.

Samind Tue 26-Feb-19 21:36:58

Hairs on toes anyone? May as well just talk about it all. 😂😂😂 Yes @angus! The fucker literally sticks out to the side! Like an arrow! And when you manage to get it, it's as long as a cats whisker. Then you get the paranoia that everyone thinks you're a hairy munter and then a big ragey cause no one tells you about it 😂😂😂

IHeartMarmiteToast Tue 26-Feb-19 21:38:23

The THING about whiskers are they always appear fully formed at about an inch long and very black.... overnight.... none of this slow growing bollocks oh no....

Hag whisker reporting for duty

soupmaker Tue 26-Feb-19 21:39:42

Hello my tribe. I've loads of chin and cheek hairs. The feckers. I've waxed, I've tweezed, I'm considering IPL on them now as even with daily plucking the buggers are always on show. Peach fuzz? I'd kill for it. Under chin hairs the worst. Kids often remark on Mum's beard. Sigh.
