To ask how to reheat rice

DS had come home with a lovely curry and rice from food tech mixed together. Cooked last two periods and then for an hour after left to cool in locker room at after school activity. Straight in fridge when home. So it was 1.5 hours after cooking it went in fridge

Can I re heat it for my dinner later and if so how is best way. It's chicken rice and the Thai curry sauce.

Many a scare story on the web about re heating rice and as much as I would love a weight loss boost I don't need fancy food poisoning really.

Or should I bin it and pretend I ate it?

Whack it in the microwave and I think it will be fine. It was cooked today and hasn't been sat around festering. I'd eat it without worrying.

I've had a couple of spoonfuls to act willing to try it. It's cold but lush. Can i eat it cold?

It's the hanging about at room temperature that's the issue. Rice can contain a bacteria that produces toxins. These toxins aren't destroyed by heating. Rice should be cooled quickly and put in the fridge to stop this happening. I normally reheat using a microwave if you do eat it

I wouldn't risk it personally. I got really bad food poisoning on holiday which was caused by re-heated rice in the buffet. I couldn't face rice for a very long time afterwards and still won't dare re-heat it.

I always eat reheated rice, I heat it so that it's piping hot.
Strange they didn't cool it in a fridge!

Reheat throughly you should be ok. Anyone who has had a Chinese takeaway fried rice will have eaten reheated rice -you cannot do fried rice with anything other than cold boiled rice.

Rice should be quick chilled to under 5 degrees within 10 minutes. You then need to reheat to above 64 degrees to eat.

I would eat it myself, but at work as a chef I wouldn't risk it.

You can reheat rice as long as it's cooled quickly and put in the fridge/ freezer. Don't leave it at room temperature

Thanks. Just put a couple tablespoons of it in a bowl and am nuking it. Will know before dinner time if I get stomach ache and bin the rest lol

Verdict. Chicken gone a bit rubbery from microwave. Shall make all the right noises about how yummy it was but bin it ;)

OP it doesn't matter if you nuke the hell out of it, food poisoning from rice comes from spores that develop when the rice isn't cooled quickly enough. These spores have already released a toxin, and it doesn't matter what temperature you heat it to, the toxin will still make you sick. Room temperature is the perfect conditions for the spores to develop.

But hey, you might get away with it!

Hiding it in the fridge and will bin it after he's gone to bed. Was lush tho. He can make that again!
