I would never actually do this of course but since being able to drive, I've made efforts to be a patient, understandable driver as I remember how nerve-wracking it could be to be a learner etc but there are some things people do on the road that just irritate me so much!!!

The main one I'm talking about is when pulling up to a junction, those who are turning right stay smack bang in the middle of the road and don't allow any room for a car turning left to position themselves at the junction!!

I've noticed this a few times at a junction near to where I live. If you're turning left it's usually quite quiet and plenty of opportunities to go but if you're turning right there can be a lot of cars coming. This means the person sat waiting to go right is there for a while and the poor person wanting to go left could've just gone if only the first car had positioned themselves correctly!!! Sorry if I'm not making any sense LOL. Of course if someone's car is too big to allow for another car to pass by the side of it or there isn't enough room at the junction that's different!

What are your guys driving/parking gripes other than the usual middle lane hoggers?!

People who push in when there's a queue to leave a motorway.
Why do they think they getting to where they want to go is more important than everyone else who is also trying to get somewhere?
It also holds up the people not leaving at that exit and can cause accidents which then hold up hundreds of people.
Very selfish.

But if they allow cars to come alongside them to the left then they can't safely see the traffic coming and will end up say there longer.

It is one lane, doesn't suddenly turn into two at the junction. YABU

Although I see your point, when i'm waiting to turn right at the end of my road and someone pulls alongside me to turn left, (I position myself correctly) I then can't see whats coming as they pull out further to be able to see past me. Meaning that those few opportunities for me to actually pull out are made even fewer.
My gripes are inconsiderate parkers! Especially all the ones who park on the zigzags outside of the school, and those who park on chevrons that are there for an unobstructed view coming out of a junction.

People who push into your lane instead of of waiting for a gap and can driver who tail gate when you are already driving at the national speed limit and realistically couldn’t go faster even if you wanted to speed.

OP - I always used to position myself on the right if I was turning right, but recently I have nearly lost my front wing so many times with people cutting across the corner when turning right into the side road that I have begun to position myself more centrally.
My personal bug bear is people not using indicators - especially on roundabouts, and especially, especially on mini roundabouts.

shpoot Why wouldn't you be able to see a car coming from the left if a car is next to you on the left? I see where you are coming from but you could apply the same logic to a junction which has 2 lanes.

I passed my test a year ago and you are taught to position either to the left if you are turning left, to the right if you are turning right or straight if you are going straight ahead. This is at ALL junctions. You would fail your test based on positioning if you did not allow for another car where possible.

People who take approx 17 years to pull away when the lights change 🤬🤬

Boy racers who think they look so cool with one harm resting on the door with window open, the other arm completely straight, loud exhaust and speeding with no regard for anyone's safety.

Old people who are clearly shitting themselves while driving along at 15mph in their big four-wheel drives.

People who don't indicate.

Could you clarify, are there two 'lanes' entering this junction or just one?

Like PP, those who bypass queues by going in the wrong lane and then force their way in at the front. Wankers.

As a norm a junction with more than one lane will have traffic lights in action. The cars pulling alongside me to turn left pull out further so they can see and follow the curve of the pavement so their car blocks my view completely of traffic coming from the left unless I pull out over the line.

braveasweare · 25/02/2019 09:56

Hi Barrenfieldoffucks, yes 2 lanes although it's shocking how many people ignore this and just straddle the line!

Agree with people driving up your arse! So unnecessary!

Why wouldn't you be able to see a car coming from the left if a car is next to you on the left?

Because they pull themselves so far forward you can't see past them to see gaps in the traffic approaching from the left. Which then means that the person turning right cannot pull out.
Learn some patience and wait for the cars turning right if there is only one lane. It doesn't suddenly become two lanes at every junction.

People who can’t read roundabout annoy me. There is a big roundabout near me, three lanes; left and ahead, ahead and right (going into lane 1) and right (going into lane 2) The number of people who get into the middle laser to go right and then stay in the middle lane to go straight ahead pushing the people who were in the right lane to go right out of their lane. It’s even written on the road. I want to make up leaflets to give to people who cut me up on that round about but the printing costs would be insane

The part about failing your test if you don't allow a car to pull alongside you is wrong. You've been misinformed. Road safety is about just that. It's not about being able to get to your destination in record speed.

If it's at an angle particularly.

We also have a road near to us that is as you described in your op, I also position my car so that I can hog the whole road, the view is completely blocked if a car comes to turn left beside me and then the other cars behind who are also wanting to turn right start to get shitty and impatient (this doesn’t bother me particularly). I would probably fail my test driving like that but I’m not on my test.

This!

There's a junction like this where I live and some people muzzle their way in on the left, my DP purposely sits in the middle of the lane because guess what, it's one lane not two. I always want to ram people who think a junction suddenly becomes two lanes and I don't drive.

The Highway Code says that positioning to the right is correct:

179
Well before you turn right you should

use your mirrors to make sure you know the position and movement of traffic behind you
give a right-turn signal
take up a position just left of the middle of the road or in the space marked for traffic turning right
leave room for other vehicles to pass on the left, if possible.

I did actually fail my driving test for not leaving sufficient room for people to go past me when I was turning right at traffic lights. It was one lane but when I went to the middle and waited to turn I didn't move over enough to allow the people going left or straight to pass.

In my commute, there is a stretch - speed limit 30 on a country lane, then turns to 50 in a bigger road, then 30 again as goes to town area. So many times people just drive 40 the whole stretch Angry
