To wonder if 14 month olds sleep will ever improve?

DS 14 months is still waking once or twice a night... every night, plus very early waking c. 4am most days. I’m now back at work full time so finding this exhausting.

We co-sleep, which we’re all happy with. However, DH never hears DS so I always end up with broken sleep, even when I’m just waking DH up to help DS settle.

I’m interested to hear from those of you who co-slept to hear if/when your children starting sleeping more reliably? Please someone tell me there’s a light at the end of the tunnel? I’ve always believed he would eventually settle into sleeping through, and co-sleeping saw a huge improvement to the amount of sleep I was able to bank when we started around 4 months... but that was a long while ago now!

I didn't co-sleep with mine but my youngest didn't sleep through until just before his second birthday and this was after he caught flu so was completely wiped out and must have got used to sleeping after that!

He was in his own bed in his own room though and had been since 6 months old. Prior to sleeping through he could be up every couple of hours......!

I think the important thing to remember is that everyone wakes up at night it's just that he is including you in his night wakings - you are the comfort he needs to roll over and go back to sleep. If you don't want this anymore then you need to get him in his own bed and introduce a different comfort. This will take a very long time but will work if you persevere. You could start by doing a floor bed with him on a separate mattress to yours and gradually create some distance. Or put a mattress on his floor and stay with him until he falls asleep and go to your bed when he does then when he wakes up just repeat, eventually you can create some distance so just sit next to him rather than laying with him and when he is comfortable with that move a bit further etc.

I co-slept with DS but I don't think my answer is going to be comforting for you. We started moving him into his own bed at 2ish. He would start the night there and come inot our bed around 1ish every night. When he was 4 we promised him a bunkbed if he stayed in his bed for a month and he did! He has slept through every night since.
