I went to put some fuel in yesterday and when I went to pay the man said "could you not have counted that at the car". Then when I passed him the money and said I think that's right. He said it should be you counted it 4 times.

Decormad38 Sun 24-Feb-19 05:30:35

He was being rude. You are not BU.

DoneLikeAKipper Sun 24-Feb-19 05:31:49

Sorry, your post makes little sense.

DifferentWorldNow Sun 24-Feb-19 05:35:13

Of course he was being rude.

Fully how we have to apologise when we hand over money, self-depreciating doubt over whether we've counted correctly! Both of you have to count it, that's a given! He's just being a cross patch and taking it out on his customers.

Tucobenedicto Sun 24-Feb-19 07:19:01

Can't believe you took the time to post that...why is that even remotely interesting? Get out more.

saccade Sun 24-Feb-19 08:05:31

The test to an OP of posting in AIBU is not 'is this interesting to Tucobenedicto' - it is 'I am not sure whether I am being unreasonable to think that __'

In this example, '____' denotes

'the man was rude'.

DifferentWorldNow Sun 24-Feb-19 08:29:17

Ignore people like Tucobenedicto. They're the sort of people who try to tell you off for being apologetic when you hand over cash!

Unfortunately AIBU does attract some rather unreasonable people, as well as those who are quite happy to help and aren't baying for blood.

Kittykat93 Sun 24-Feb-19 08:36:12

Yeah he was rude, but struggling to see the point of this post really. It's a non issue

IncrediblySadToo Sun 24-Feb-19 08:38:22

Yes, he was very rude.

...unfortunately lots of people are, several on this thread for example.

DailyBaileys Sun 24-Feb-19 08:45:30

grin @saccade 👍

Dieu Sun 24-Feb-19 08:53:00

Yes, he was rude, but you ought to trust your own judgement on that smile

BlackCatSleeping Sun 24-Feb-19 08:56:05

I agree with Tucobenedicto though.

How can you possibly think he wasn't rude? confused

arethereanyleftatall Sun 24-Feb-19 09:00:47

As you haven't given his side, Could his side have been:
Shop really busy, big queue of people, I'm rushing about trying to get everyone served, lady gets to till, and then starts counting out her pennies?

ArgyMargy Sun 24-Feb-19 09:01:24

Yes it was brusque but perhaps there was a queue of people building up behind you getting irritated, who might then take it out on the cashier. Or perhaps he'd just had verbal abuse from a customer, or been called into work on his day off. Perhaps he was trying to be lighthearted and missed the mark. Whatever, it really is of no consequence.

Did you really count it four times? Was it in 50p pieces?

ArgyMargy Sun 24-Feb-19 09:01:59

Oh x-post with are there any

Sirzy Sun 24-Feb-19 09:03:24

So you spent ages counting out change to pay for fuel? I can see why that might have pissed him off, and others in the queue!

Kahlua4me Sun 24-Feb-19 09:11:20

Were you paying in notes or coins? £40 worth of fuel in notes is fine but in coins not so much...

Dotty1970 Sun 24-Feb-19 09:12:56

It was obviously rude and

BlackCatSleeping Sun 24-Feb-19 09:13:01

You see, this is what happens...

You will now get loads of people telling you that you were unreasonable and then you will feel like shit.

PhilomenaButterfly Sun 24-Feb-19 09:14:58

I do that if I'm being distracted because I have shit executive function. I can't read my shopping list if DS2's yammering on at me.

Dotty1970 Sun 24-Feb-19 09:15:31

he should have kept his impatience to himself even if there was a queue and you were annoyingly counting change.
There are some very rude people on this thread too angry

Lalliella Sun 24-Feb-19 09:16:06

Did you count it 4 times though? That’s 3 times too many. You were probably holding up the queue. He shouldn’t have spoken to you like that though.

HoraceCope Sun 24-Feb-19 09:18:10

he was very rude and unnecessary shock

HoraceCope Sun 24-Feb-19 09:18:34

but if you had counted it in the car you would have still held up the queue

sheldonstwin Sun 24-Feb-19 09:19:16

The man was being a dick. Go in ready for him next time and pay in pennies and say 'stitch that, son'
