AIBU?

My DH is a knob

DH lives away during the week and comes home every weekend. EOW he brings his DDs who are 12 and 14. He is about 2.5 hours away.

A few weeks ago I had a week off and the day he was coming home I went out for lunch/drinks with a friend. Knowing I wouldn’t be around to have a meal ready for DH and DSDs arrival I put a meal in the slow cooker before I left.

Today he is coming home a day early with his DDs as it is half term.

Unfortunately I came down with a flu bug last night (I wouldn’t say actual flu but felling like total shit, aching, shivering, horrid sore throat, no energy) and have been off work today and spent the day in bed.

I texted DH and said you are going to need to sort out a meal. There is him, his DDs, me and my 16 yr old son.

He phones on the way home and says can you order a takeaway 15 minutes before we all get home?

I have no cash (if it gets here early) and just feel really pissed off that he I am unwell yet still need to be involved in everyone’s dinner. Why can’t he just buy some food on his way home and cook it for us all? Even if it’s bloody microwave meals.

AIBU?

Did you say “no phone and order it just before you get here/stop off”?

Does he expect a red carpet out also??

And I said can’t you just bring a takeaway with you rather than you giving me your order and having to worry about timing it and them arriving before you.

What did you say when he asked? Surely your response was no I'm in bed feeling like shit.

In the time you typed that out, you could have done an uber eats (or Just Eats) order, a paid by card and gone back to bed.

Yeah it was.

Sorry, x-post.

I'd be more pissed off about being hung up on than anything else tbh. Is he always a knob? Is life better while he's away?

@PlainSpeakingStraightTalking

We don’t have Uber order here - and why should I have to?

When he's away, does he cook for himself?

Report
DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 21/02/2019 18:45

@PlainSpeakingStraightTalking what’s stopping one of his teenage daughters from doing that while he drives?

Report
TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 21/02/2019 18:45

@plainspeaking but why should she have to, and it could have arrived before DH which would mean her dragging herself out of bed to answer the door.

He's presumably a grown up, he can sort dinner.

Hopefully it's because he doesn't realise how rubbish you're feeling. Anyway part of the fun for the kids will be deciding which takeaway to go for. Let him sort it out when he gets home. Stop in bed and feel better soon.

Yanbu. He’s knows you are ill, he’s capable of sorting it out. It’s just usually your job so he can’t be bothered. Go to bed and ignore

Yeah it would have been nice if he'd just dealt with it rather than trying to drag you into the arrangements. Annoying.

It's not rocket science to order a takeaway. So why can't you?

Report
PooleySpooley · 21/02/2019 18:46

No he can only have a microwave in his room so I freeeze meals for him which he takes back.

He can cook though - I have taught him to and he does it with his daughters as do I.

No he should ring himself.
My ex was like this. He could never cook a meal without having to involve me.
Every single time.
Belinda, can you pass me the tin of x.
Belinda can you peel the potatoes.
Belinda could you make the gravy.
He could never just do it.

The quickest way to get the takeaway would be you calling. If he picks one up he needs to stop to make the call and stop to collect it. The takeaway isn't going to arrive within fifteen minutes so not having cash is a non issue.

Get over yourself.

Because he's driving ? just a guess! I've been in a relationship with name calling and petty point scoring so I'm not best placed to advise really

PooleySpooley · 21/02/2019 18:48

Yeah it’s just not wanting to be dragged into the arrangements exactly.

I am never ill.

Sorry your feeling shit Flowers

He seems to think you’re staff. I’d stop cooking for him altogether as he clearly doesn’t appreciate it.

It's easy to order a takeaway. It'll be no bother for him to do it. I'm surprised he hadn't decided to do that already seeing as he knew you'd been ill. It would have been so easy, helpful and thoughtful.
