Was This Morning's phone-in inspired by here or the other way around?

I think 'inspired' is a kind description for stealing from under MN noses. They only started that Vanessa Feltz feature recently compared to the AIBU board here, which has been going for years.

Haven't always watched TM, so perhaps they did do it first way back but my first reaction when I saw theirs recently was, the media now have no shame and are blatantly lifting an idea directly, not even bothering to tweak the name.

Did they actually term it AIBU? I thought MN have trademarked that phrase.

Can you actually trademark a phrase millions of people have used for years though?

Ha, I saw that the other day and thought how they'd blatantly lifted it from here! Grin

I noticed this last week!

Can't believe how blatant they are. At least say it's inspired by MN. I don't actually have a problem with the phone in apart from Feltz

Aw I quite like Feltz.

Something quite comforting about her.

She's alright I guess. Just quite jarring with her high pitchedness

They are all at it nearly every day Jeremy Vine/Loose Women/This Morning do features on threads they've gotten off here. Really annoys me for some reason!

Yes but they aren't copying our posts word for word like SOME newspa pers, or are they? I haven't seen this. Grin

Annoys me too because it is the laziest form of journalism, particularly when they quote the OP and responses verbatim. How much are these "journalists" being paid to copy and paste from MN? Absolutely no skill involved whatsoever. A primary school kid could do their jobs of cutting and pasting.

I've heard posts read out verbatim on Loose Women. Don't listen to Jeremy Vile and try to avoid This Morning but I know first hand Loose Women does it.

It seems odd to me that Mumsnet had to remove the "Good" from the formerly named "Good Housekeeping" topic because of plagiarism but that any magazine, newspaper, radio or TV show can steal entire threads, or thread titles, from here and it's absolutely fine!

I agree Sanguine and what also riles me is the way Loose Women make out like they've actually researched the OP's topic. But in reality all they're doing is quoting other posters. I'd love to know the legality of this. I know in academia if you try to pass other people's work as your own you are in Big Trouble as you have committed plagiarism, doesn't seem so much of an issue for those Loose Women, does it?

Blimey thanks Boys That is really annoying , they DO probably employ or use work experience kids to cut and paste from the MN site it's ridiculous .

That feature's been on TM for a few months now. Vanessa Feltz often gives awful advice on there though, definitely not toeing the MN line with regards to LTBs and parenting.

They have been doing it for a while now

Yes Boyskeepswinging I'd like to know more about the legalities of it too! I suspect this being an open, public forum makes plagiarism hard if not impossible to enforce. And iirc, you can't copyright ideas. But not at all sure about details!

None of MN is patented is it? Maybe Good Housekeeping has a patent on their name.
