AIBU?

To be really pissed off everyone thinks they know the sex of my baby and I don't?

Every single person who knows about my pregnancy has said "oh it's a boy. I just know it." Not a single person thinks it's a girl. I'm talking a lot of people; both our families, work colleagues, friends.

I'm completely impartial. I want a healthy baby and that's as far as it goes, but I was very excited to find out. I just keep reading on here and hearing from friends "I just knew the second I was pregnant that it was a boy/girl" and I do not have that feeling. I haven't even got an inkling and now I'm almost hoping it's not a boy because I don't want everyone else to be able to get more of a 'feeling' about my baby than me. I don't want to see their smug faces.

HOW DOES EVERYONE SEEM TO KNOW?! I feel it's taken all the surprise out of it now (unless it does turn out to be a girl and I'll be shellshocked after all of this) But I feel like now if it turns out to be a boy I'll be slightly annoyed about everyone being right and me being clueless and it'll take the happiness out of it? Hopefully I'm overthinking.. but it's so bloody annoying. This isn't one of those threads favouring girls, I was truly so happy about either but I don't like smug people BlushGrin

Well unless they’ve all been at your scans they don’t know do they? Weird.

I 'knew' mine were both boys, almost everyone said they thought boys and I have two girls! It's just guessing, means nothing and it's still going to be a surprise!

They don't actually know op. Sorry I think you are being a bit ridiculous. They are making a guess, and saying they feel strongly that way.

If it helps, everyone said this baby was definitely a girl except my grandad. It's a boy! Definitely a boy, very clear tackle on the scan.

Well the thing is, they don't know. They're just making educated guesses based on the way you're carrying the baby, the shape of your bump or other nonsense, and comparing it to their own pregnancies or those of others. They've got a 50% chance of guessing correctly. It's just a bit of fun to try and guess so try not to stress out about it.

I had an induction and as I was settling into the ward the first thing the midwife said to me was 'oh that's a classic boy bump! Do you know what you're having?'

We didn't want to know but I'd suspected right from the start I was having a boy. Roll on a few hours and when dc was born the midwife (a different one) pronounced 'you've a little girl!'

Try and ignore what people say. Until the baby arrives, no one really knows what you're having anyway

Don’t stress. They don’t know. It’s just a guess.
I keep saying I am having a boy. I actually have no idea but it’s fun to have a guess.

No one knows, people just like to guess. Calm down OP Grin

Well I know because I had a chromosome test and they checked gender lol.

Reality is that they didn’t know. They had a 50/50 chance of being right. Even a monkey could guess right on those odds.

Everyone said boy for me. I thought girl. Based on nothing. She was a girl.

The women who 'know' what they are having do have an elevated chance of being correct (I think 70%). However most people go on the guess of which type of child they can see you with. I have two boys and everyone has always said they couldn't see me with a girl as I'm not stereotypically girly.

I knew I was having a boy. I don't know how. I was so sure that I nearly bought boy clothes but I didn't just incase. Everyone told me I'd have a girl because I was so girly it would be a shame if that went to waste. Well he did turn out to be a little boy, who loves wearing mummy's heels. Screw everyone else.

I had this as well after my scan said it was a girl. "Oh you are having a boy" "Why are you buying girls clothes, you are having a boy" but made me really paranoid. Guess what I had a girl. People just seem to think they can say what they like to pregnant women. Also like "u look so big are you having twins" and other crap just to upset you.

I didn't have a clue what I was having, EVERYONE said boy. My DH starting calling it a boys name and everything (I didn't care either way). But imagine my delight when I went to the scan and it was a little girl wriggling round Grin told everyone -with a smug face- and the response? oh I said girl!! Hmm no you did not! Just ignore and carry on Smile

I had the same with DS1. We waited to find out but everyone seemed to 'know' he was a boy, except me. I had no gut feeling at all. I totally understand how you feel, it drove me crazy too. I chose to find out earlier with DS2 as I couldn't face the knowing comments again.

They are just guessing OP I think you need to seriously calm down!

I had the same, well "oh hope it's a boy" "be good for you to have your boy" I have dds and currently 24weeks pregnant. I found out Baby is a boy at 16weeks. No friends knows what we are having as I can't be doing with the comments we will get. DH has a son from previous relationship and we never cared if baby was a boy or girl.

Calm down! This is really not worth stressing over.

They’re just guessing!

And the ones saying that they knew thensekves are just the ones who guessed right. As you can see from this thread there are also plenty of women who “knew” and were wrong, you probably hear less from them on the subject in real life but they exist!

I'm not actually angry to clarify, this is semi lighthearted. I just find it frustrating that I have no idea and others do. It's my baby in my body - why don't I have this gut feeling other people get?! I'll be happy either way but it would be satisfying for everyone to be wrong 😂

The only person who predicted mine (with absolute certainty) was a Chinese lady whom I met in a toilet. She was spot on Grin 50/50 chance I suppose!

I was knew I was having a boy, everyone else knew I was having a boy, I picked a beautiful boys name. It wasn't a boy.

I “knew” I was having a boy. To the point I genuinely felt like I was lying when I said I didn’t know what I was having (didn’t find out at scans).
My daughter is now eight Grin
People can guess, it’s a 50/50!

I had no idea if my dd was a boy or girl. I've never understood the 'just know' thing.

Report
HP07 · 21/02/2019 08:17

Nope I didn’t know what I was having first time round at all. Most people in my family guessed a boy and they were right. I guessed a girl but I think that’s because I could see myself with a daughter and not a son. I had no idea what this ‘just knowing’ which sex the baby was, was all about. How could you know? I’d never been pregnant before so I had no idea what it felt like. The second time the pregnancy was a bit different so we thought it may be a girl and we’re right. I still didn’t have that knowing feeling though. Basically both were guesses and meant nothing more than a bit of fun. Just because you don’t have a feeling of which sex baby you’re having doesn’t mean anything. Once the baby is here and in your arms you will forget it all anyway.

I thought I was having a boy, nope. People like guessing the baby's sex, it's part of the set menu of things people say to pregnant ladies, along with 'Sure you haven't got two in there?' 'You look as though you're about to pop' etc. It does get pretty draining having the same surface level chitchat type conversations over and over.
