To ask if triple bunk beds are the pain in the arse I imagine them to be?

Thinking if purchasing some for my dd and step children to create more space in the bedroom.

But I just imagine them to be a pain. How do you change the sheets on the very top bunk? Don't imagine the middle one would be easy either.

And making the beds? The only thing I like the dcs to do is make their beds on a daily basis. Im a bit ocd and can't cope with un-made beds 🤦🏻‍♀️

Anyone bought them for their dcs? Yay or nay?

Are your step children with you all the time? Or would two fold out beds under a cabin bed be an option?

No just weekends and extra in school holidays. At the moment dd has her bed. My step children have another single bed with a fold out bed underneath. Just would be nice to have more space to play and I know they would love it.

But I don't think I would lol

bunk bed and an 'underbed' which you can pull out at night. pretty sure I saw something like that in IKEA.

Sometimes the dcs come unexpectedly and I know it's lazy but it would be lovely where they can just go to bed without having to pull beds out and make the beds up etc. Sometimes it makes me wonder if they feel more like guests if you get me?

They are up at the crack of dawn too and want to play but can't as once the bed is pulled out, there's literally no more space. So we have to get up and push it all back and put all the bedding away etc etc.

But yeah....changing the sheets and making the beds I know will stress me out lol.

Fitted sheets would make changing them easier. I think long term benefits of the step children seeing it as their home and bedroom, rather than feeling like guests outweigh the inconveniences.

What about a normal bunk bed with a pull out underneath. You can get loads where you leave the bed made up so would solve the space problem and putting everything away.

It's more about when the step dcs come and bedtime comes, they have to tidy everything away and then get the beds made up. I'd just rather it be 'ok let's get into bed'.

The bunk beds look quite good actually with the pull out bed, will look into those.

You sound like a lovely Mum, it's lovely that you are thinking of them in this way! My eldest has one of those high sleepers with space underneath and it is a bit of a pain to change the bedding but it still only takes a few minutes. If it makes the kids more 'at home' and they have more space to play then I think it's worth it xx

This one looks really ace if you have the space. I would imagine making the beds could be a bind so would need some lightweight mattresses. Pricey but reduced to £599 minus mattresses.

Think about ceiling height and age of children. If they end up too close to the ceiling they become a real pain as the child can’t sit up in bed

How old are they? I remember having to put our own sheets on bunk beds on school and guiding trips from the age of about 8, they might be able to do it themselves.

Use lighter weight foam mattresses. That's what they usually do in the dorms of school residential hotels. I had to climb up and change some sheets on top bunk of those, with the lighter mattresses and fitted sheets it's easy

I'm just ready for a 'told you so' from dh as I was adamant pull out beds were better. I had visions of them falling out of bunk beds, especially the youngest as he has a little tornado that never stops!

Have a look at south west kids playbeds, they have a Facebook page and if you have the room for one could be good. The bottom bed tends to be quite low so they're more of a midsleeper than high bunk bed making it easier to change and depending on the one you choose there would be space to play / for storage underneath
