Just checking before I make a fool of myself on Facebook... this post is a lie isn't it?

I'm 100% sure we are not giving benefits to illegal immigrants because, well, they are illegal and if caught would be deported.

To think this is a lie???

Yep! Just social media scaremongering as always.

Yes it's a lie. People here illegally can't claim anything.

Yup, bollocks. Illegal immigrants don’t get benefits because they are , well, illegal. You need to be in the syste: to claim benefits. Asylum seekers get a (small) amount, but they aren’t illegal. Seeking asylum is legal.

This is one of the fundamental misunderstandings that has perpetuated the idea that all immigrants are bad and given people ‘permission’ to be racist.

For context, my DSis is married to a non-Eu migrant. He pays tax, he pays for private health care as demanded by our country. He is not allowed to apply for any benefits and by extension neither is my sister, apart from CTC, as he would also benefit from those benefits.

If course it's bollocks! Like you say, you have to be in the system to claim benefits and illegal immigrants are, by definition, illegal and therefore not in the system.

That's the kind of thing you hear from those who don't know the difference between economic migrants, illegal immigrants and asylum seekers.

Absolutely call them out on it (I did once. There was radio silence Grin )

illegal immigrants have no recourse to public funds - so yeah it's bullshit

Don't bother replying though. Arseholes who post shit like this are looking for a bun fight, or they have been cooked up by bots. Easier on your blood pressure to block idiots like that. (Yes hello dsis and bio)

I cut off the end of my post:

In short, many(most!) legal immigrants aren’t entitled to benefits so how on earth would an illegal immigrant get them?

Report
Thatsnotmyotter · 16/02/2019 19:37

Bloody hell it’s hard enough for people who are legally citizens to claim benefits, how do they think illegal immigrants would be doing it?

My DH is in the army and a surprisingly huge number of soldiers, wives & ex soldiers are posting this sort of thing. I didn't realise anyone thought this sort of stuff until marrying my husband.

Of course I'm by no means saying all military families think this way. Me & DH obviously don't. So many people are forming their views on immigration based on these posts. It drives me insane!

Really disappointing that this post even exists. Like you, I didn't think these people really existed until I met my DH. He knows better, but many of his relatives hold views like this, in addition to whatever the DM tells them...

Well itd be impossible to claim anything as an illegal immigrant without it being flagged up and drawn to the home office attention.
If they're here illegally. They'll be keeping a low profile, I'd imagine.
They must be working illegally, as they can't work legitimately and they have to survive someway and somehow. I'm not judging of course not. These are desperate people and as we know desperate people do desperate things. Its called survival.

We couldn’t claim anything or live in social housing as h is non eu. I had to apply for permission to have ni credits applied via child benefit which I got based on work record but no cash. Any non emergency medical treatment had to be paid for too - no chance of getting out of it as our gp surgery asked for proof of legal residence. Something I too got asked for when I had my booking in for the midwife with both children due to my ‘foreign name.’ He is now British but apart from now not paying for non emergency treatment nothing else has changed. Btw in the years where we couldn’t claim he was still paying full income tax and national insurance. Those years are not counted towards a state pension only the years since he became British.

Ah yes Tommeh Robinson has gone after the squaddies and they seem to be buying into it.
I think the days of ‘fighting for your country’ are well and truely dead. Now they are fighting for the elites shares in war businesses, somebody eleses oil and our boy Yaxley-Lennon.
Such a shame, I’m losing all respect for the armed forces.

I met an illegal immigrant once. He lived in a ditch. He told us to come with him to his home as we had been attacked at knife point. He then disappeared into the bushes on a path along an A road! He had a duvet and everything! I think he was Serbian. It's a sub culture that exists, though you'd have to see it to believe it. For money, all the guys would meet at a pick-up point at 7am and builders would collect how many of them they needed that day. Dodgy as fuck. The builders using them that is. They got paid something like £4 an hour. I felt so sorry for him, but I guess it's a risk they're willing to take.

They probably meant asylum seekers of legal immigrants. In both those cases they have a point... illegal immigrants is wrong.

OlennasWimple · 16/02/2019 20:02

I know a fair few military or ex-military who post or share this sort of stuff too

It's not quite as cut and dry as illegal immigrants don't get anything, though. All children of statutory school age are eligible for state education, and emergency care is provided to anyone who requires it. (Yes, checks are supposed to be conducted, but they often aren't and even more frequently no bill is sent to recoup costs)

But I suspect that people who post this stuff aren't thinking in such detail - they believe that all illegal immigrants are being housed in 5 bedroom mansions with free 72" TV, Sky and a goat, and given £000s in cash every week. Which is clearly crap

I used to work in a role slightly connected with the armed forces, and when I left I had to unfriend most of the people I'd added on FB who were from forces families. Their news feeds were full of Britain First and BNP stuff (it was a while ago). Some of them even "liked" the NF. I hasten to add that they weren't all like that, but it was a startling proportion.

YouTheCat · 16/02/2019 20:07

PinkGin, so it's wrong to assist someone who has fled war or persecution? Hmm

The illegal immigrant stuff is always posted by those who say 'I'm not racist but...' Load of bollocks.

Of course it's not true.

The best barrier to illegal immigration is to build a wall. Just ask Trump.
