AIBU?

To puncture my ear drum?

I realise anyone remotely medical / sensible will say "ffs woman, STOP!"

I get recurrent sinusitis, got eustachean tube dysfunction & have constantly blocked feeling (plus reduced hearing) in ear. Most of the time ear drum is retracted.

Today ear is so painful. Equalising pressure doesn't work. Sinus spray etc no help.

I am fantasising about puncturing the drum with a needle to relieve pressure. I mean, how can it be worse than if it perforated? Had that happen few times before.

Only time ear has felt ok is when I had grommet in or when on long term antibiotics.

Let. Me. Jab. My. Eardrum!

No No No you need a referral to ENT

You don't need me to tell you not to do that. You would get an infection that would be more painful than anything you've so far experienced. I've no idea if they put grommets in eardrums still but you might ask your GP?

PLEEEEEEEEEEASE!!!!!!

I was discharged (accidentally) by ENT. I know I need to go back. I just want immediate relief! Lol

Could I not sterilise the needle?

I know you're all right, but I'd be thrilled if anyone offered to pop round & do it for me!

Ear popper from Amazon will save you!

Go for it. Knitting needle would be better...

Well, obviously not but I know how you feel! Can you request an ENT referral?

I want to say yes but sorry, no. I will come round and remove whole ear Van Gogh style if that helps a little? Ear drum piercing sounds a little extreme...

My ear drum perforated following an ear infection in November. The relief of the pain was fantastic at the time I’ve had muffled hearing & tinnitus in that ear ever since. It’s starting to heal now and my hearing is coming back but I’ve lost certain frequencies and the tinnitus remains.

Normal stabby, old fashioned type that clicks. Preferably brand new so it’s nice and sharp, failing that you might have to stab and wiggle with an old one. Best have some gauze or something to mop up the crap that flows out...

@Comefromaway ooooooooooh it's so wrong that I'm wishing that was me. Whenever mine has perforated the relief! But yeah, after it that's crap!

@SandunesAndRainclouds right. I've got some wooden stabby ones. Not new, but I could sharpen them a bit. Splinters are a minor issue, if I get gunk gushing out. Shall I film it for you & all the sporners???

@Ericthesnake I don't think you realise that "yesssssss" is the only acceptable answer.

Have you got a giant pencil sharpener?!

You know the sporner rule - pics or it didn’t happen.

@SandunesAndRainclouds I've been having a rummage. Cannot find one. I'm trying to shave it into a point with my Gillette Venus.

@TheoriginalLEM I asked my DS (don't worry he's 20) to help. Or at least film it. I take it from his look of disdain that this was a no.

I am so, so tempted. But thinking do I need to be in A&E on a Sat night, if all goes tits up & I stab my brain. Might wait til the morning. Meantime, I have taken painkillers.

Stab advice aside, have you tried Otrivine for the sinusitis?

My poor dd screams and screams for hours until her drum bursts and the gunk flows out. I would never burst it though
